What Lamb & Lion Means To Me

Don Koenig: Congratulations on the one thousand article mark and thanks for all the hard work that the whole Lamb & Lion Ministries team have put into “The Christ in Prophecy Journal” blog. One thing that I know I can count on from Dr. Reagan and Nathan Jones is solid scripturally based Bible prophecy teaching and excellent biblical discernment on contemporary Christian issues. Many sites jump on the latest Bible prophecy conjecture bandwagon, but this is not one of them. In fact, this site gives good counterarguments for the scripturally weak, endless speculations that are so often found elsewhere. Dave and Nathan, thanks for your excellence in advancing the arguments of futurist premillennial eschatology!

Guest Article: “The Two Witnesses From Heaven Will be Hell to the World”

The ministry of the Two Witnesses from God in Revelation chapter 11 will last for 1260 days. This event is the most understated event of Bible prophecy. The witnesses — the two prophets from heaven — will shake the world to its core and the whole world will rejoice when they are killed because they tormented those who dwell on the earth.

“3And I will give power unto my Two Witnesses, and they shall prophesy a thousand two hundred and threescore days, clothed in sackcloth.
4 These are the two olive trees, and the two candlesticks standing before the God of the earth.
5 And if any man will hurt them, fire proceedeth out of their mouth, and devoureth their enemies: and if any man will hurt them, he must in this manner be killed.
6 These have power to shut heaven, that it rain not in the days of their prophecy: and have power over waters to turn them to blood, and to smite the earth with all plagues, as often as they will.
7 And when they shall have finished their testimony, the beast that ascendeth out of the bottomless pit shall make war against them, and shall overcome them, and kill them.
8 And their dead bodies shall lie in the street of the great city, which spiritually is called Sodom and Egypt, where also our Lord was crucified.
9 And they of the people and kindreds and tongues and nations shall see their dead bodies three days and an half, and shall not suffer their dead bodies to be put in graves.
10 And they that dwell upon the earth shall rejoice over them, and make merry, and shall send gifts one to another; because these two prophets tormented them that dwelt on the earth.”
– Revelation 11:3-10

As we see in this passage, the Two Witnesses tormented them that dwelt on the earth. Apparently they tormented those on the earth so much that all those that dwell upon the earth will throw a worldwide party after they are killed by the Beast Antichrist. That party will still be going on 3 1/2 days later when God will raises them from the dead in the sight of all and takes them to heaven.

The passage also tells us that these Two Witnesses will devour their enemies and they will smite the earth with plagues as often as they want. That is quite some delegation of power. Nobody in the history of the earth up to this point has been given such power. Even Moses could only announce the plagues that God told him would come if the Egyptians did not obey God. These Two Witnesses will be delegated the power to smite the earth with plagues as often as they deem necessary.

Identity of the Two Witnesses

I am not going to get into the arguments of who these Two Witnesses are here. I will just say I think they will be Elijah and Moses or Elijah and Enoch. These will be God’s top two lieutenants whom He calls Olive Trees and Candlesticks (oil and light — full of the Holy Spirit and giving the light of Jesus to the world).

These witnesses certainly are men because they witnesses for 1260 days dressed in sack cloth and they are allowed to be killed after their prophetic ministry is over. They are not angels or some allegory representing the law and the prophets as Amillennialists claim. If they are Elijah and Moses they would be the Old Testament chief prophet and the law giver. Therefore, they will authenticate what is written in the Bible.

A Caveat

Before I get into what the ministry of the Two Witnesses is all about, I want to say something about us Bible prophecy teachers in general. Don’t be deceived, there is not one of us who is sure that all end time events have to happen exactly as we teach. Any teacher who believes that they have all end time Bible prophecy figured out probably has delusions of grandeur. Not one of the people on the Who’s Who List of Bible Prophecy would totally agree with any other person on that list on certain points of Bible prophecy and almost all would disagree on one or more major points. So who on this list has all the truth? Some obviously have more truth on Bible prophecy than others, but no one can be certain on all points. There simply are things we do not know and the best anyone can do in many cases is give an educated guess.

One of the reasons Bible prophecy teaching may have fallen out of favor in even Premillennial churches could be because today there are so many conflicting theories from the Bible prophecy “experts”. Not to mention that there are some bad apples preaching Bible prophecy. So whose view does a pastor use as a guide without offending those in his church that bought into the teaching of some other teacher? I think many Bible prophecy teachers need a little more humility and when writing books and articles we need to quit presenting our various theories as if they were absolute facts set in stone. Now having said that, I hope nobody will think that what I am about to say has to be fact. I am just throwing out some of my thoughts for consideration as an explanation for the role of the Two Witnesses of Revelation and why scripture says the world will hate them so much.

I suggest that everyone interested in Bible prophecy study the writing of many different biblical teachers and do no just think that any one teacher has all the truth. Many of us have it right in one area of prophecy and miss it in another area. Keep that in mind. This is not an exact science although true Bible prophecy teachers do get the most important points correct.

Ministry of the Two Witnesses

The Two Witnesses are the last two prophets who will come before Jesus establishes His kingdom on earth. They will start their ministry from Jerusalem for the first half of the still unfulfilled seven years period spoken of by Daniel. I do not think they will oversee the building of the Third Temple since they know it will be defiled by the Beast. The temple might actually be in place before they arrive on the scene and the animal sacrifice system for sin might be part of the reason why they are dressed in sack cloth morning the unbelief of Israel and Israel not accepting God’s sacrificial Lamb for sin. The sackcloth probably also means that they will take no pleasure in the comforts of the world and they will be leading Israel and the world into repentance from sin.

Not much is said in scripture about what these two prophets will do so we have to take the little information we have and see if we can deduct their ministry from our overall understanding of the Bible and the purpose of God.

Roles of the Two Witnesses

The Two Witnesses may have at least ten major roles on the earth.

1. In the ancient days of Israel, God always sent His prophets before judgment in order to give people a chance to hear and repent. At this future time when God is once again dealing with Israel, He will send His prophets once again. Thus, the two prophets in Israel will be sent to warn Israel and the world to repent of their sinful ways and accept Jesus as the Messiah who they will proclaim is about to return. They might tell the world exactly when the Lord will come and they certainly will tell the world that He is coming to judge the world and set up His kingdom on earth.

2. I believe God intends to use the Jews to give the final witness to all the world. He will seal 144,000 Jews and send them to all the nation of the earth (Rev. 7: 3-8). I believe the greater fulfillment of Matthew 10:6-42 will also then take place. I do not see how this passage was ever completely fulfilled until now. The wording of verse 42 strongly suggests it refers to the Sheep and Goat Judgment of the Gentiles in Matthew 25. This judgment in spite of what some Christians teach is not about how Christians treat other Christians or how others treat Christians. It is really about how the world treated these 144,000 Jewish sealed brethren during the days of their ministry on earth.

The Two Witnesses will probably tell the nations that they must allow all Jews to go back to Israel. If they do not and resist, the prophets are likely to send judgments on those nations as often as they wish. Much like when Moses led the Israelites out of Egypt. It is not going to be a question of free choice. God appointed the nation of Israel for a end time purpose and now Israel will fulfill that purpose. The Gentile world will be judged on how they respond to God’s prophets and how they treat the 144,000 sealed Jews and the nation of Israel.

3. They will prepare the way for God’s Kingdom on the earth by setting up God’s eternal law for nations to follow and to repent. Perhaps they will enforce a form of Jewish Dominion Theology and the people of the earth will be tormented by living under God’s law because they loved living in their lawlessness. The “wicked one” or “lawless one” that rises out of the bottomless pit will be given the power to kill the two prophets and the whole world will rejoice. Thus, that will display that they never repented of their sins and did not receive the love of the truth that these prophets presented.

There is this misconception with some in Christianity that the Law was done away with, but on the contrary, the Law is perfect and eternal and all people of flesh must conform to the perfect Law or die. Christians entered the New Covenant where the Law was written in their heart and now they have a heart that by nature obeys the spirit of the Law.

Many Jews will also come into the New Covenant through hearing and believing the teachings of the two prophets and when Jesus reveals Himself to Israel the second time. The New Covenant promise was always to Israel and the Jews without preconditions (Jer. 31:31), but for the most part, they never entered into the New Covenant because of unbelief, and so the Gentiles were grafted into the promise first. But, soon all Israel will hear the truth and many will accept God’s Messiah.

Those who willfully reject the Law and pollute the world with flagrant willful sin will be eliminated from the earth. Only one third of Israel will survive the tribulation and be refined through the fires (Zec. 13:9). I think even less Gentiles will survive this period.

4. To verify that what had happened in the past and that was written in scriptures is indeed the truth. The whole gospel will be given and God’s purpose for Israel and the the Church will be clearly presented and known to all. So, everyone who rejects the truth henceforth will be without excuse.

5. To witnesses that Jesus is the Messiah and Lord of the Earth and that He is about to return in power and glory and set up His literal Kingdom on earth for a thousand years in order to restore the earth to the paradise it was before the fall of man.

6. To show the power and reality of God through many signs, wonders and judgments.

7. To expose the work of Satan on earth that will be culminated in the person we call the Antichrist.

8. To display the futility of resisting and rejecting God’s will. When God’s prophets are killed, they will be resurrected by God on the third day in the sight of the whole world as a witnesses to all.

9. To warn of eternal damnation for all that reject Jesus Christ as Lord.

10. To proclaim God’s forgiveness and love for all those who put their trust in Jesus Christ.

Impact of the Two Witnesses

I think we totally underestimate the impact that these two prophets will have on the world. They will be second in power to no one until their ministry is complete. No weapon formed against them will succeed. If a nuclear missile is fired at them it will land on the nation that fired it. These prophets with supernatural powers will have God’s angels at their disposal. Anyone who dares to harm them will in like manner be killed. They are going to have such a profound impact on the world that after they are risen and taken into heaven the sinful world will want to be led to believe that they can stop the kingdom of Jesus from coming. Thus, at the end of this period of Antichrist rule, the Antichrist gathers all nations against Jerusalem to try to stop the Second Coming and the fulfillment of their prophecies.

Why would anyone on earth believe they can defeat the God of Heaven? Obviously a great deception takes place so the world will believe a lie because they did not want to believe the truth (2 Th 2:11.12). I personally think the Antichrist will claim to have come to earth as God to save it from the god of the Bible by claiming the god of the Bible is really the leader of a evil alien race of control freaks that want to enslave the people of earth. That will be the great deception and delusion. This concept is taught in “New Age” teaching and in some ufology.

The Satanic angels cast out of heaven will claim to have come to earth to save it from the biblical god, when in reality their real intentions will be to destroy the Jews so that Jesus will have no Jews for His earthly kingdom. When killing the Jews fails because Michael the Archangel protects them in the mountains of Jordan, the Antichrist will lead the whole world against God in an attempt to have all human flesh on the earth totally destroyed. Jesus said if he did not shorten those days no flesh on earth would be saved.

In these days the truth will be twisted 180 degrees for those who wish to believe a lie. The two prophets of God will be called the Antichrist and his False Prophet by the Bible illiterate. While the real Antichrist will be looked at by most as God and the Savior of the world.

For 1,260 days on earth, every day will bring new decrees from the two prophets. What they say will be the major news story of the day and the whole world will quake with fear at their words. Although there will be rebellion against their decrees, the people will soon learn that they will have to comply or receive judgment. It will be to the world like superior aliens came to earth and dictated to all earthlings what they must do or reap immediate consequences.

Like I said, this is very much how the world will spin it and that is why the earth rejoices when they are killed by the Beast Antichrist that rises out of the underworld. They will think their earthly savior stopped the plan of Jehovah and the plan of a Jewish kingdom ruled by Jesus. But instead they will receive the wrath of the Lamb and the wrath of God. God’s son will return on schedule and God will destroy all those who would not have Jesus rule over them (Lk. 19:27).

  • From the article:

    and

"I think many Bible prophecy teachers need a little more humility and when writing books and articles we need to quit presenting our various theories as if they were absolute facts set in stone."

    Bravo!!!

  • Excellent article. I am really thankful to you for writing this and sharing this with us, your humility is welcome. Thank you Dr. Reagan and Nathan.

  • Oh! I enjoyed this article more then you know,I wish I could print it off,my husband just does not believe.GOD Bless,Rachel=Lexington,Tn

  • I think the two witnesses are here now as the old and new testament and at the end these two testaments will be represented by two actual men as you mentioned

  • I think the two witnesses are here now as the old and new testament and at the end these two testaments

That means both the Old and New Covenants are killed by the antichrist mid point of the seven years – then they are resurrected and rise up into heaven. Altogether, they are only around for 1260 days.

    I think not!

  • Can those who appeared in glory with Yeshua on the Mount as he was transfigured be killed by the AntiChrist? Can immortals then be killed? Elijah and Enoch were translated, being changed from their mortal bodies! Moses died and was buried by the Lord God on Mount Nebo! With this information it seems rather plausible that the Two Witnesses will not consist of any of the Old Testament Saints!

  • Rodney,

I have to say I tend to agree with you on this. IF it is a fact that Moses, Elijah and Enoch are now in perfected bodies then I can't see them returning in mortal bodies.

That being said, I need to read about Elijah and Enoch again to see if they indeed were translated. (Not doubting you…I just want to read it again for myself). If Elijah was not translated then I could see him returning, as I believe the Lord could keep him alive in a mortal body all these years. And isn't Elijah supposed to return before the Lord's return or was it just before His first appearence? Or did Jesus say John the Baptist filled the Elijah role prior to his appearence? Obviously, I have some studying to do.

My question to your point is WHY do the two witness SEEM to HAVE to be OT men according to most people?. Why can't they be new prophets of current times?

  • Dear anon that said "I think not" to the other anon about the two witnesses. No one would have that Jesus would be slain either. That is exactly why the Jewish leaders did not accept his testimony. The two witnesses will seem slain also just as Jesus was but resurrected also. Being slain in the streets represents being slain because of truth. Just as Satan thought he had won at the cross the anticchrist will think he has also overcome the Word of God. Don' t be so quick to "think not" because maybe you are speaking the truth about your thinking. Be open to another brethren in Christ and don't dash them down so hard be soft in your own testimony as maybe they can not express as well the feelings the Holy Spirit gives them.

  • Bash!? I made a reasoned decision based on a literal interpretation. What was expressed was, to my mind, a spiritualisation of the event – so I do not think Anon was correct – I may be wrong, but since when has disagreeing with a view become a 'bash' Friend?
Also, in my opinion only, of course, your own view seems based on superstition rather than literal facts. BUT if my opinion, for what it is worth, is a ‘bash’, then I’ll try not offend you with another. 😉

I agree with Rodney that the two witnesses will be two flesh and blood men of Israel (killable.) As Elijah and Enoch were taken into heaven, needs must they now have ‘un-killable’ glorified bodies as fallen flesh and blood cannot enter heaven. Moses died, so again, he must at least have his ‘interim’ body that cannot physically die either. Just my opinion of course – no ‘bash’ intended.

  • Like the article said, nobody knows precisely who the witnesses will be so it's just opinions. Do not make others feel that their opinions are incorrect since that are all just that, opinions. Approach with humbleness.

  • Connie,

I agree. No one knows for sure. Those who think it CAN'T be Moses, Elijah or Enoch need to also remember, though perhaps they are correct, with God ALL things are possible so it can't be ruled out completely.

  • Billy hesitates a couple of milliseconds… ….just before he opens Pandora's box…

"…Why can't they be new prophets of current times?…"

Here's a weird 'caveat' that came to me a while back, that I don't think anyone else [except Billy] has maybe actually considered:…

Just because God says: "…Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD…" – Malachi 4:5, is it not us who make the assumption that God is refering to that self-same prophet of old??

Could it not be that there is somewhere, in Israel, an Israeli born Jewish man, who was named by his parents; Elijah!!…….

"…And he shall go before him in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just; to make ready a people prepared for the Lord…" – Luke 1:17

In that very second that he is annointed by the HS and begins to "proclaim", "preach" , and "testify" of the Judgement & Kingdom of the Lord to come, he IS the prophet Elijah that was foretold in Malachi…

  • Dr. NoFog…thanks for the links. Interesting related and similar comments in there. It helped much with this discussion.

btw, I posted a comment on a different article but when I went back later it looked like it never went through.

I'll repeat it as it was for you.

    Dr, NoFog,

I sincerely apologize for any and all comments directed at you by me that were out of line, rude and very much "un-Christian-like". I am ashamed of them. Please forgive me. I appreciate the kindness you have demonstrated towards me though I did wrong by you.

    God bless!

  • Susie,

Thank you. I know some day we will all get to meet in person. That'll be great!

As for me being a gem…the credit for any good I do all belongs to Jesus. It's the bad stuff I do that I deserve the blame for. Thank the Lord He forgives me for all that and will forget all my sins and take away my sin nature on the glorious day He call me home.

I pray it is soon and that it is the Rapture that is our way of departure.

    God bless you.

  • Billy, i am looking for our blessed hope to come soon too! :):):)

Off subject, would all my friends please pray for my mom n dad today? My mother is very ill and goes into a nursing home today. My dad is crushed as im sure u all would imagine. They r both strong believers thank God, so i just need prayer for my mom to not feel abandoned in her confusion (dimentia) and for my dad to feel the Lords presence and lean on Him for comfort and strength. Thank u everuone. Love in Yeshua, sus

  • Susie,

You're all in my prayers. My grandmother went through what your Mom did. It is so hard on all. May the Lord be with you all.

  • You can see the error of false teachers in a lot of these comments. "Heb 9:27 And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:"
There have been only 2 men who did not suffer physical death: Enoch and Elijah. Both extraordinary men of God that he took from earth. The Word does not teach that they received glorified bodies…that is an assumption of mankind and some church tradition. That God has kept them alive 6000 years is in His power. They will return to earth as the two witnesses to terrorized the apostate people and The Antichrist & his followers; be killed (per scripture) and then be resurrected and ascend into Heaven while the whole world watches.

  • Thanks Anonymous for that professional analysis, unfortunately it is you that are in error once again! "By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death; and was not found, because God had translated him: for before his translation he had this testimony that he pleased God"-Hebrews 11:5. Enoch as well as Elijah we justified by faith, having their bodies changed from corruption to incorruption, from mortal to immortality! Consider also the Transfiguration, "And, behold, there talked with him two men, which were Moses and Elias: Who appeared in glory, and spake of his decease which he should accomplish at Jerusalem"-Luke 9:30,31. Notice that on this occassion that both Moses and Elijah appeared in glory!

  • Rodney, heb 11:5 doesnt say that they have glorified bodies yet. I agree with anon and mostly cuz i think the law and the prophets will be represented. Just my opinion…. none of us knows for sure which we all know that…. it will be awesome to find out!

  • Susie, you have to read the entire comment including the verse that I supplied in Luke 9:30,31 it identifies that they appeared in glory! I have been through this discussion many times, it is for me evident however that none of the Old Testament Saints will fulfill the role of the Two Witnesses! Simply put also, is the fact that the scriptures identify that Moses died and was buried by the hand of the Lord, so knowing this we obviously can exclude Moses as a candidate. The scriptures allow us to use common sense in its application also, that is what I love about it!

  • Rodney, i read the scriptue in luke. I am just giving u my opinion… i dont think just because they appeared in glory at the m.o.t that the Lord wont send them as the two witnesses of rev….. afterall.. they were the two witnesses at the mount. The thing is, none of us knows for surdont e. What is common sense to u or to me may not be common sense to others. God will do whatever he desires.. and sending a dead man or a translated saint neither one are beyond his power.. right?

  • One clue that may be relevant to Rodney's view is note that Jesus transformed prior to the appearence of Moses and Elijah.

What is the significance? Unfortunately I can't say for sure. I'm just submitting that bit of informaiton for consideration.

  • Billy said "… relevant to Rodney's view… …that Jesus transformed prior to the appearance of Moses and Elijah…"

Yes & No Billy, on Rodney's stuff.

No! Jesus WAS transformed… …But NOT by His own doings!!

And Yes, as to "…prior to the appearance of Moses and Elijah…", …it has always been the paramount purpose of the HS in declaring Jesus's "Preeminence"!!

It was not by His own discretion, nor was it even within His own ability at the time, as He had deliberately manifested Himself into our world devoid of [almost] all attributes of His divine Powers & Glory!

    Philippians 2:6-7
6 who, although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be clutched onto,
7 but emptied Himself, by taking on the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men.

Jesus, as the "humble servant', would never magnify Himself!!

As you will notice in any careful study, it is the operation of the HS to magnify and glorify the Lord Jesus at the discretion and direction of the Father!

The HS clearly manifested just the inherent "God-Glory" that was contained within the bodily-form of Jesus!

And NOTE that this "manifestation of Glory" is prior to the "real" Glorified body that Jesus was resurrected in!

Like I mentioned before about Moses and Elijah:

As to the fact that "they appeared in glory", God would never present His saints naked and uncovered, and any form of "Heavenly" covering [ie. a temporary heavenly body…] that He would visibly provide to human witnesses, by definition, would be glorious, but that is not the same as claiming either one now has a "glorified body",|especially prior to Jesus receiving His.

Here is another point to consider on the issue of manifested glory without a "Glorified body":

Moses, while still in his earthly flesh, was so infused by the manifest Glory of even being near of the presence of God for 40 days, that his facial glory was too bright and frightening to the Israelites and that he was forced to wear a veil!!

That —> was in his 'flesh', before he died, and before he will be finally resurrected at the end of the Tribulation!
    Jest food fer thot!
    😉

  • Rodney, did not the apostle Paul say… now we look thru the glass dimly? And i dont think my statement clashed at all with the word. But thanks for discussing the ever debateable issue of the two witnesses with me. If the Lord wanted us to know for sure who they are, he would have stated it clearly. It has nothing to do with us being children of the light.

  • Don Koenig of "The Prophetic Years" is a FALSE PROPHET for sure. It is amazing how much he is able to talk seeing that he keeps one foot in his moutn

  • People are asking the wrong questions.

It doesn’t matter “who” the two witnesses are. It only matters “what” they are.

What will these 2 witnesses be? Obedient to everything God commands of his people. They will preach against lawlessness, something most mouth proclaiming Christians want nothing to do with.

Does anyone remember how the deciples didn’t recognize Jesus when he came to them along the shore line while they were fishing? This of course was after Christ ressurection, and before he ascended to the father in heaven. Christ was sitting by a fire cooking fish along the shore and called out to the deciples in the boat. None of them recognized him. Did these deciples forget what Jesus looked like after less than 40 days of being away from him? No, the simple answer is that Jesus wasn’t in his original appearance, which threw the deciples off at first, but clearly whoever’s body Jesus was dwelling it, it had Jesus holy spirit in it, and that’s how they eventually recognized him, not from his outward appearance, but by his inward appearance.

This is how true believers will recognize the 2 witnesses. Not by their names, or outward appearance, but by their inward, godly, obedient appearance.

  • The two witness will die because they are mortal but protected by the angels as they preach the everlasting gospel. They cannot be dead prophets from the past. Thus God will call them through revelation from his Church. They will teach all the people of the earth concerning the doctrines of Christ’s Church. Thus, all people will recognize the one true religion apart from the man denominations on earth at this time. Emphasis will also be placed on the promises and the gathering of the house in of Israel as the accept Jesus as their Savior. The ten tribes will also return from the north countries with their religious history to join with all the tribes of Israel. I’m sure the prophecies of Isaiah will be expounded verse by verse, and fully understood by all as well as all ancient prophets from the past. Very enlightening and people will be astonished concerning their prophecies. Of course the wicked world will hate what is revealed.
