We are continuing to share with you the opinions of 17 Bible prophecy experts concerning various questions related to the book of Daniel. You should find these interviews fascinating and very informative. The interviews were conducted at a national Bible prophecy conference that was held in the Dallas, Texas area.

The sixth and last question looks pointedly at the book of Daniel as one of the most important prophetic books in the Bible. It contains so many great prophecies, such as the succession of world empires portrayed in chapter two and the incredible prophecy of the 70 Weeks of Years in chapter nine. With all these major prophetic messages, one message in Daniel should stand out from the rest.

So the question for our experts is this:

#6. What is the most important prophetic message of the book of Daniel?

Thus far, of the nine of the 17 interviewed, four have stated that they believe the most important prophetic message of the book of Daniel is the sovereignty of God. Two said they thought the most important message is an overview of what the Bible calls “the times of the Gentiles.” Two others felt the most important prophetic message is that God is faithful to His Word and can be trusted.

Let’s now go to seven final members of our forum and see how they answered.

The fundamental prophetic message of the book of Daniel is that only God knows the future.

As I was looking through the first and second chapters of Daniel, we read of all these false prophets who were trying to help Nebuchadnezzar with his disturbing dream. He was upset. He wanted an answer to his dream, but none of the prophets of Babylon could satisfy his command. Daniel then goes into his prayer closet, and when he comes out, not only does he tell Nebuchadnezzar what the dream was about, but tells him the interpretation of it as well. So, only God knows the future.

Only God can offer a book called the Bible that declares the beginning from the ending. We are a privileged people to be able just to study it and be students of it. We don’t have a problem understanding where the world is headed, because we have the same God that Daniel had who knows the beginning and the ending. The book of Daniel to me demonstrates that very fact.

I would just simply say that the fundamental prophetic message of the book of Daniel is that it reveals to us that there is a God in heaven who has a plan. I love that passage in Isaiah 46 which reads, “For I am God, there is none other, I am God there is none like me, declaring the end from the beginning.”

God sent the angel Gabriel to tell Daniel, “Daniel, here is God’s plan. I’m going to give you a panoramic view of what’s going to happen to your people and your city. And, in the end, just know this — that the wicked will never understand, but the wise will understand.” Daniel is going to go to his fathers in death, and he’s going to await the time when all these prophetic events would come to pass.

There is no question that this book reminds us that there is no confusion in Heaven. God’s not running around wondering what’s going to happen next. The final chapter in the history of the world and in our lives has already been penned by God. And so, to me, it’s a great reminder that God is firmly in control, from the moment He spoke the world into Creation until the final reforming of this earth in which we live, and as we are entering into eternity with Him.

There are no accidents. There are no sudden decisions being made. God is not reacting to what happens here. He is proactive. He has already written the final word.

Not only is there the fact that the prophecies in Daniel are so explicit, but I believe the fundamental prophetic message is that God is in total control, even when everything looks like it is just out of control. When we are watching the news and it appears the whole world is in a panic and depressed, we can be singing for joy for knowing that our Savior is near.

Without a doubt, the fundamental prophetic message of the book of Daniel is — Jesus wins! Just look and see all those human empires Daniel prophesied that were striving and trying to thrive, but then Jesus as the Great Rock smashes them. Jesus sets up His Kingdom of righteousness. He defeats the Antichrist like he is nothing. No matter how bad it gets, and no matter how worried we are about how civilization is getting, Jesus wins. And, because Jesus wins, we who are His children will win as well.

Randall Price, World of the Bible Ministries
The fundamental prophetic message of the book of Daniel is that God is in control of all the details of history. He has revealed those details in a very unique way to Daniel so that we can trust in God. As we see those details unfold, we see these prophesies are not haphazard. They don’t come to fruition accidentally. There is certainly a plan or purpose behind everything, and that is why the book was sealed up until the last days. And yet, we know that the book of Daniel was only sealed up for our own good, for when these things happen the same God who started history is the God who’s going to finish it.

You have Daniel in Babylon. He’s a prince of Judah. He’s from the royal family somehow. He’s been dragged from Jerusalem and the Temple and thrown into this terrible nation of idolatry where everything is against God. And yet, the Lord gives Daniel in his prophetic role the foresight that the same God who has allowed Jerusalem to be destroyed and forced Israel into 70 years of exile, is still the God in control. God is still sovereign. He’s sovereign enough to be able to predict from the ends of time to the succession of empires to the coming of the Messiah in both His First Coming and His Second Coming.

God is sovereign and still in control. I would suggest that’s the fundamental prophetic message of the book of Daniel.

Tim LaHaye, Tim LaHaye Ministries
The fundamental prophetic message of the book of Daniel is that God is not yet finished with His planet Earth. God has plans to fulfill what He dreamt of in the Garden of Eden. Remember that God put two people into an idealic situation. During the coming Millennial Kingdom, it will be rather like the Garden of Eden again, but with that one exception being Satan who will be unable to tempt people. Sure, there will still be human nature, and all the people born during the Millennium will have to call on the name of the Lord to be saved, because He is the only way of salvation.
