Islam's Background

Is the God of the Bible and the Allah of Islam one and the same?

In this study series on Islam, we will seek an answer to the question above. We will also explore Islam’s background, belief system, goals, growth strategies and end time views. How Islam fits into the biblical description of the last days will be explored. And finally in the last segment, we’ll look at the best methods for sharing the Gospel with Muslims.

Qur’an or Koran

As we seek to understand the reasoning behind all the vicious attacks from Islam against the West, we’ll need some understanding of their holy books. The first we’ll look at is the Koran. For a Muslim that is their holy book, like for the Christian it’s the Bible. Theirs is the Koran, which means “recitation.”

Koran

Mohammad was illiterate. He couldn’t write. So, what he did was while he was in trance-like states — possessions — he would start performing automatic writing on bones and strips of linen and anything he could find. Different men would surround him who could write and they were the ones who recorded what he had to say. Over the years these men put all of Mohammad recitations together into what is called the Koran. The length is about as long as the New Testament. There were many, many versions of it before it was finally compiled into one authoritative Arabic version.

Mohammad would also take teachings from Moses and Jesus, and Zoroaster who is a Persian religious teacher, and he put them all together. These teachings along with his own formed the Koran over the years.

The Koran is obviously filled with historical errors, though. For instance, it says that Jesus was born of Mary, the sister of Moses. Bible drill time, is that correct? No.

The Koran claims that Jesus didn’t die on the cross and He’s not the Son of God. Judas Iscariot instead replaced Jesus.

This is a good Bible drill question. The Koran claims Samaritan’s tricked the Israelites at the Exodus. True or false? When did the Samaritans show up? They didn’t exist until hundreds of years after the Exodus, so that claim’s wrong.

Mohammad also claimed that Alexander the Great was a Muslim, even though Alexander the Great lived 900 years before Mohammad was even on the scene.

Mohammad also had some very interesting teachings that went into the Koran. Ladies, I’m sorry if this may offend you, but Mohammad wouldn’t care. He didn’t mind offending women. He taught that women are deficient in mind. A majority of the people in Hell are women. Women are a bad omen. Clearly, when you have 15 wives, that’s a bad thing!

Mohammad also has some medical advice. If you drink camel urine you’ll be healthy. If you have a fly in your drink it will cure you. He said that fevers come from the heat of Hell itself, and if you wanted to send a person to Hell, all you had to do was talk badly about them. Gossiping worked.

Hadith

The second Islamic holy book is called the Hadith, which means the “report.” It contains 7,000 traditional sayings that Mohammad supposedly hadsaid, supposedly because it was compiled about 200 years after Mohammad died.

Hadith

The Hadith helps people act just like Mohammad, so if they want to know what Mohammad believed or thought, they can go to the Hadith. Christians have “What would Jesus do?” Muslims through the Hadith also have “What would Mohammad do?”

You can go to the Hadith and know exactly what Mohammad would have done. So, for example, if Mohammad said you need some money, then go raid a caravan like he did. If you need to lie to advance your cause, well that’s okay, for that’s what Mohammad did. If you need to take as many wives as you want, well Mohammad said men could only have four wives, even though he got 15. Men are capped at four.

Those are just some of the teachings out of the Hadith.

Islam’s God

Remember that Mohammad was supposedly told by the angel Gabriel that his family god Allah the moon god was the one true God and that all people should worship him. This point is so vitally important to understand because we have so many people in the media today telling us that Islam and Christianity worship the same God. When we put Jehovah God of the Bible next to Islam’s Allah, tell me if they are the same God?

Allah is a unitarian-monotheism, meaning he is only one god. Allah is not a trinity, being a Father, Son and Holy Spirit. And to even say that Allah is a trinity to a Muslim is shirk, which means idolatry.

Allah to the Muslim is distant and unknowable. He is unpredictable concerning salvation, and there’s no assurance of salvation. He reveals his will, but not himself. The relationship between Allan the Muslim is master and slave, not father and son.

Allah determines all so that there’s no free will in Islam. He created both good and evil. He is feared by his followers, and he has no love for his own people.

I will go so far as to say, and I will stand on this based on the Koran’s description, that who in the Bible does that type of description describe? No doubt it’s Satan.

So, when anyone tells you that Mohammad is saying that the God of the Bible and Allah of Islam are one and the same, is that true? Not at all! They are totally different.

In the fourth segment of this study on the fall of Islam, we’ll look at the main Islamic doctrines and look through their eyes at how they view Christianity.

  • The Spirit-filled author of Hebrews in chapter 1 verses 1 through 4 wrote:

"God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds; who being the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person, and upholding all things by the word of His power, when He had by Himself purged our sins, sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high, having become so much better than the angels, as He has by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they."

With such an unambiguous, Divinely-inspired statement of fact as this, what possible reason could there be for why an illiterate, murderous, lying and thieving sinner like Muhammad would be chosen by God 600 years later to be his final and ultimate prophet?

One would have to be a refugee from an out-of-control turnip truck to buy into such nonsense as the qur'an and the ahadith of islam.
