MP3: The Mighty Angels of Revelation 19 Continued
Hosts: Nathan Jones & Vic Batista
The Antichrist’s Armies
Vic Batista: Let’s read about the Angel Standing in the Sun from Revelation 19:17-18 again:
“Then I saw an angel standing in the sun; and he cried with a loud voice, saying to all the birds that fly in the midst of heaven, ‘Come and gather together for the supper of the great God, that you may eat the flesh of kings, the flesh of captains, the flesh of mighty men, the flesh of horses and of those who sit on them, and the flesh of all people, free and slave, both small and great.'”
Revelation 19 talks describe two divine suppers. One is going to be a marriage celebration feast held in Heaven, while the other is something quite different.
Nathan Jones: Our babysitter has grown up and now is getting married. At her wedding she is going to be dressed all in white and will look as beautiful as ever. We’ll watch her get married to the love of her life. After the wedding there will be a great celebration with food and dancing and music. Likewise, Jesus Christ will be the groom reunited with those who have accepted Him as Savior — His Bride the Church — and there will be a great celebration held in Heaven.
In verse 17 we are introduced to an angel standing in the sun. This must be an incredible angel, for either he can withstand the heat, or the maybe the sun is just framed behind him. Either way, the Apostle John says the angel is standing in the sun.
The Angel Standing in the Sun calls all the birds of the earth to come to a feast. The birds will feast on the corpses of a variety of people all the way from kings to military men, to free people and slaves, both great and small. These people all comprise the Antichrist’s army. The Antichrist’s army first assembles to put down the rebellious army of the Kings of the East, but in one last push the Antichrist uses this army in order to try and destroy Jerusalem and stop Jesus Christ from returning. The Lord is calling this mighty angel to call all the birds together to gather and eat the dead men. Before Jesus has even arrived and beaten the Antichrist, Heaven is preparing the battlefield for the removal of the dead. The #Angel Standing in the Sun calls all the birds to feast on the Antichrist's armies. Vic Batista: The time of the Great Tribulation portrays a very gruesome picture with all these carcasses lying about everywhere. The imagery is fresh in our minds, because who hasn’t seen vultures gather around a corpse?
Nathan Jones: The carrion birds are a sign of the end of a battle, and Jesus hasn’t even shown up yet. His victory is that assured! Jesus is riding down to the earth, and already the angel is calling the birds together to eat the men who will surely die. The imagery shows these armies have no hope of winning their battle against Jesus Christ. Heaven is already preparing the clean-up crew.
The call for the carrion birds is meant by God as an insult. It’s a great disgrace for a soldier to be left rotting on the battlefield and have birds eating your unburied corpse. The imagery also shows how powerful and how absolute Jesus Christ’s victory will be, for not one soldier will be left standing.
Vic Batista: Armageddon reminds me of some of the other prophetic battles. For instance, the Gog-Magog War of Ezekiel 38-39, which timing-wise should occur just before or at the very beginning of the Tribulation. That battle will also result in a massive cleanup of bodies and the remaining weapons of mass destruction.
In the fifty-ninth segment of our series “The Mighty Angels of Revelation,” Jesus will wage a war of words!
