MP3: The Mighty Angels of Revelation 22
Hosts: Nathan Jones & Vic Batista

The Disappearing Curse

Nathan Jones: To think that for those who are saved, we are going to be living forever. If you have put your faith in Jesus Christ as Savior, then Heaven on Earth — the New Jerusalem — is your eternal home.

Vic Batista: That is so absolutely true. Revelation 22:3a reveals, “And there shall be no more curse.” What curse will be no more?

Nathan Jones: Just after Adam and Eve sinned by disobeying God and eating the fruit from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil, God presented a number of curses on top of the decay and inevitable death that sin set in over all of the Creation.

God cursed the snake, also called the serpent, so that it would no longer walk. It appears snakes were able to walk at one point. Mankind would also fear the snake, and certainly mankind fears snakes up to this day. Satan’s possession of a snake, or coming in one’s likeness, doomed the snake to a slithering existence.

God also cursed Eve so that childbearing would be painful. Eve never got to experience a painless childbirth as all her children were born after the Fall. Some 50% of the population knows that it hurts a lot to give birth to a baby!

God also cursed the Man so that everything that he would try to grow out of the ground would be a constant battle against thorns, thistles, drought, wild animals, plague, and blight. Sustaining life itself would be miserable, and that’s what the curse on this earth does as punishment for our sins.

The Curse will be partially lifted during Jesus’ thousand year kingdom, but it won’t be totally lifted, only partially. When humanity gets to the Eternal State, that’s when it will finally be totally gone. No more Curse!

I don’t have the answer for if there will be childbirth in the Eternal State, because we will be living in our glorified bodies, and our glorified bodies aren’t given in marriage, so therefore we won’t be having children. What we do know from Revelation 21-22 is that mankind will have finally returned to a paradise like the Garden of Eden. There was work to perform in the Garden, which Adam and Eve did, but plants grew unimpeded and produced tremendous crops.

Adam and Eve didn’t have to worry about thistles, being stung by bees or chiggers, the animals didn’t hate them and visa versa. The animal kingdom so far has been at war with mankind, yet animals are scared of us, but that won’t be the case on the New Earth. The wolf will lay down by lamb in peace. The dangerous predatory animals and the peaceful prey animals will get along just fine, and mankind will get along with them.

On the New Earth, everything is good again. Life continues without end, as nothing is dying anymore. We exist in our glorified bodies which are perfect and sinless, so we don’t have to worry about sinning and rebelling against God anymore. We will always want to do the right thing.

How wonderful what Revelation 22:4 describes, “They shall see His face, and His name shall be on their foreheads.” We will look upon the Father Himself! We live out our lives today never seeing our Creator. We often wonder why God seems so far from us, well that’s because our sin has caused that separation. But, once we are purified and have a glorified body that can stand to look at the radiance of God in all His power, then the Curse is truly gone. I’m so looking forward to that day when mankind gets to see our Heavenly Father’s face once again.

Vic Batista: That is going to be amazing! We read how in the Gospels the disciples talked and walked with Jesus. Some of us can think we missed out on that time. But, for those who have placed their trust in Jesus Christ, we’ll have all of eternity to personally hang out with God.

Nathan Jones: Having a personal, face-to-face relationship with our Heavenly Father will be the most amazing part of having the Curse removed. For, when we die and go to Heaven we get to see Jesus, but I am not sure if we will yet be able to stand before the Throne of God yet and see the Father until the Eternal State. We can know for sure that in the Eternal State Heaven and Earth will finally merge together. God and His people will be together as one family. Eternity is the return to the way life was meant to be at the Garden of Eden.

In the seventy-ninth segment of our series “The Mighty Angels of Revelation,” we’ll find out just what our glorified bodies are capable of achieving.
