Out of the Ashes of the World Economic Collapse

Is the world facing an economic collapse? Let’s take a sampling of this week’s headlines:

  • United States
Wall Street panic rolling over consumers worldwide
(By Michael Conlon, Reuters, Wednesday, Oct 8, 2008)
“The worst financial crisis since the 1930s was stark reality for millions on Wednesday as retirement savings evaporated, jobs disappeared, stock market values slipped again and a dramatic cut in interest rates by central banks from Europe to Asia did little to stem three weeks of near panic.”

  • Iceland
Iceland Teeters on the Brink of Bankruptcy
    (Newsmax.com, Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2008)
“This volcanic island near the Arctic Circle is on the brink of becoming the first ‘national bankruptcy’ of the global financial meltdown… they are watching helplessly as their economy implodes, their currency losing almost half its value, and their heavily exposed banks collapsing under the weight of debts incurred by lending in the boom times.”

  • Japan
    Japanese stock market plummets 9.4%
(The Jerusalem Post, Wednesday, Oct 8, 2008)
“Japan’s stock market plummeted 9.4 percent Wednesday — its biggest one-day drop in 21 years — as investors rushed for the exits on deepening fears over the global financial crisis… The Nikkei index has lost a staggering 24 percent in the last two weeks.”
  • China
    Japanese stock market plummets 9.4%
(The Jerusalem Post, Wednesday, Oct 8, 2008)
“Also Wednesday, Chinese stocks fell as investors spooked by the global financial crisis unloaded insurers and other financial shares.”
  • United Kingdom
UK announces £50b. ‘radical’ plan to stabilize banks
(The Jerusalem Post, Wednesday, Oct 8, 2008)
“The British government announced a 50 billion pounds (US$87.5 billion) plan on Wednesday to partly nationalize major banks, with taxpayers taking stakes in a bid to shore up a financial sector hard hit by the world financial crisis.”

  • World
Fed, central banks cut rates to aid world economy
(By Jeannine Aversa, Yahoo! Finance, Wednesday, Oct 8, 2008)
“In a rare coordinated move, the Federal Reserve and other major central banks from around the world slashed interest rates Wednesday to prevent a mushrooming financial crisis from becoming a global economic meltdown… The central banks of China, Canada, Sweden, and Switzerland also cut rates. The Bank of Japan said it strongly supported the actions… Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson said Wednesday that global financial markets remain severely strained… The worldwide gloom followed a sell-off in U.S. markets late Tuesday, where major stock indexes slid 5 percent.”

The answer is clearly “Yes!” The world economic system is clearly tumbling in a free-fall. But, where will it end? What will rise up from the ashes of a world economic collapse? History has shown:

  1. Spiritual Revival — When most people lose their support structure, they finally call out to God for help. Hitting the hard times begins a renewed calling out to God and swelling church attendance.
  2. War — Countries scramble to obtain resources when supplies are short, and put their efforts into militarily securing lands rich in oil and minerals.
  3. Poverty — Loss of jobs means loss of income, and poverty runs rampant starting hard with the third world countries.
  4. Disease and Death — With lessening money for medicine, diseases spread, epidemics rise, and many tragically die.
  5. Slavery — People become indentured servents, or worse slaves, to their governments. The consistent theme among every country’s bailout plan is the nationalization of banks. Each government now owns their people’s mortgages, lands, businesses, retirement accounts and insurance policies.
  6. Globalization — The size of governments globally just multiplied exponentially. Governments are scrambling to find a global solution with an overall world organization to manage a new world economy. A world government will need to be created to manage this economy. A global president would be needed to run the world government.

The current world economic woes may only be birth pains that hopefully will settle in time. But, the birth eventually has to come. World leaders are already calling for unification and restructuring of world finances. What in good times would take years or even decades to implement, in difficult times forces a rapid response.

Out of the ashes of this financial crisis will birth a new world government. And, the Bible calls the final form of human world government the Antichrist’s Kingdom.

  • I wanted to comment and let you know how much I appreciate your blog. You are on my google reader, and I am thrilled when you have a new post up, because I am fascinated with Bible prophesy…and also, I cannot wait for us to be raptured out of here! It gets me motivated to get on with the work that the Lord has for me, because time is short. :o) So, thank you! And please keep writing!

  • You mention "swelling chuch attendance" which prompts me to say church attendance is NOT required to be saved. You can be saved without going to church. Only belief in Christ can save your soul. A lot of regular church goers may not go to Heaven, especially if it is one of these "many paths to God" churches. One of the two other men crucified at the same time as Jesus was told by Jesus his faith in Him had saved him. That man converted just before his death probably didn't go to church or was baptized (by water) but Jesus saved him. I am not saying don't go to church nor am I saying you should not be baptized (the Bible says we should be baptized). You should if you WANT to, not because you feel you HAVE to. If you don't go to church yet have faith in Jesus you WILL be saved. My grandmother was one of the most best examples of a believer actually living like a Christian but she didn't go to church. She is now in Heaven because of her FAITH in Christ as the free gift given by Christ for her BELIEF in Him, not based on how many time she went to church. (Note to readers: This is my view which I admit is open to others debate. I am expressing my view but am very open to rebuttal from Lamb & Lion staff because I want the truth to prevail.)

  • If anyone can demonstrate where it clearly says in the Bible that church attendance is a requirement of salvation I shall donate $100.00 to Lamb and Lion. That is a verse that clearly states “you must go to church to be saved”. Again, I’m not saying don’t go to chuch. GO TO CHURCH! I just don’t want people to think if they don’t go they are doomed to hell.

  • Thank you for clearing that up Nathan. People get so touchy about that subject, especially when they aren’t going to church. But clearly people go to church looking for answers, when times are bad for them. But I believe when you have a relationship with Christ, you want to fellowship with other Christians that are likeminded. Keeps your faith strong when your dealing with hard times. We are not to be selfish, so when we are involved with church, you are to be witnesses to others that maybe babies in Christ. Not by preaching all the time, but by your attitude also. Great article..

  • Tricia, My MOTIVATION was to make sure no one thinks church attendance equals salvation. It doesn’t. My motivation was not out of touchiness in not going to church. Church CAN be great if it is the right church. People going to liberal left-wing, pro-abortion, pro-gay rights, pro many paths to God churches are DANGEROUS to newbie Christians. That is why JESUS is the only way to salvation not church ATTENDANCE. People swarming to Jeus for salvation is what we need in hard times, not just the swelling of church attendance.

  • Nathan, I’m saved and baptized but while you’re on the subject of church, what’s you thoughts on Sunday verses Sabbath (Saturday) worship. There are alot of discussions on this subject lately. The Catholic church changed the “sabbath” from the seventh day to the first day and if I understand correctly, breaking one commandment is no worse than breaking them ALL. For most of my life I thought the Biblical sabbath WAS Sunday.Research opened my eyes years ago. Finding out that I believed a lie was an eye opener , to say the least. (If you have covered this subject, where can I find a link)

  • Hi, Joel. I have also heard that statement about the Roman Catholic Church changing the Sabbath to “Sunday” as part of incorporating pagan practices into the church, sun worship in this case. I did some research of my own. That claim is made through some convoluted hermeneutics regarding the verses that refer to the resurrection occurring on the first day of the week and the early church meeting on that day to celebrate it (Mt. 28:1, Mark 16:9, Luke 24:1, Acts 20:7, etc.). This “new” knowledge somehow redefines “the first day” as a Jewish seventh-day Sabbath.

As a truth seeker, this really bothered me. I gladly give up traditions of men for the truth, but I don’t ever want to give up the truth just because someone says it’s a lie. What I found is that the early church met on the first day of the week to celebrate the resurrection for centuries before the Catholic Church even existed. Jewish believers may have continued to observe a seventh-day Sabbath as well, but that was different.

Another issue regarding a seventh-day Sabbath celebration of the resurrection is that for Yeshua to fulfill the third feast of Passover (the first fruit grain harvest of Leviticus 23:9-14), the resurrection had to occur on the day after the Sabbath. “Bring to the priest a sheaf of the first grain you harvest…on the day after the Sabbath.” Christ fulfilled the firstfruit feast, 1 Cor. 15:20, “Christ has indeed been raised from the dead, the first fruits of those who have fallen asleep.”

Regardless, the Lord exhorts us in Colossians 2:16 to “not let anyone judge you by what you eat or drink, or with regard to a religious festival, a New Moon celebration or a Sabbath day.” In Christ, we are free to set aside any day of the week we choose to honor him. The importance is not WHEN we do it but THAT we do it.

    Maranatha.

    Karole

  • I agree with that, anonymous, but, my point is on the 10 Commandments given to men by GOD. The church, nor Christ our Lord, does not advacate the breaking of these 10commandments! Why do we seem to ignore “REMEMBER THE SABBATH, TO KEEP IT HOLY?” The early Church knew WHEN the sabbath was. Most of the EARTH has been deceived , by the commandments of MEN , into believing that the actual SABBATH DAY of the BIBLE IS indead SUNDAY, there-by treating Saturday as any other day of the week. How many people say ,”Do not do this or that on SUNDAY”, believing IT to be the SABBATH, yet play ball , shop , cut grass ect, ect, on Saturday ignorant of the FACTS! And does the church also not observe EASTER and CHRISTSMAS as HOLY DAYS,there-by following the traditions of men.Easter does not always fall after PASSOVER.And Christsman is NOT the birth day of CHRIST!(That’s off the subject and needed to be addressed at a later time.)
    The point is this:
The majority have tossed one of the 10 commandments , un-knowingly, out the window. The church does not say it is ok to willingly (that is the key here) break 9 of these 10, Why not all 10? And I know these laws are to convict us of our sin and thru GRACE we are all cleaned.Salvation thru/after Grace , we are supposed to do our BEST not to SIN anymore. KNOWING the truth , are we not sinning by breaking this COMMANDMENT? Should we not at the very least REMEMBER THE SABBATH?
I just feal troubled over this and have for years. Are we willingly sinning by breaking this one commandment?

  • I think it all comes down to – believers in Christ are free from the Law. Even the 10 Commandments.

“2because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set me free from the law of sin and death. 3For what the law was powerless to do in that it was weakened by the sinful nature, God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful man to be a sin offering. And so he condemned sin in sinful man, 4in order that the righteous requirements of the law might be fully met in us, who do not live according to the sinful nature but according to the Spirit.” – Romans 8:2-4

The Mosaic Law’s been replaced with “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.” – Mark 12:30-31

Because of this, it becomes not one day that you should set apart for the Lord, but every minute of every day. See how grace frees us from the Mosaic Law, and yet enables us to fulfill it?

  • Yes, at last, I have “seen the light” on this matter. The LORD just lead me to read ROMANS Chapter 14 and GOD forgive me if I have placed a stumbling block out here for anyone. I, being selfish, was only trying to find peace for myself on this subject. I ask for your prayers that I might see clearer , from now on.
Thank you Nathan!!! GOD BLESS YOU!
