The question is often asked by skeptics and by faithful Christians alike: Why Israel?
The answer is not obvious to a casual observer. Abram was not from a large or powerful family, but a clan of idol-worshippers. Isaac and Jacob were not exceptional among the ancients, and the sons of Jacob—with the exception of Joseph—were a rag-tag bunch, to say the least.
God Himself made it clear that there was nothing outwardly worthy in the children of Israel:
“The LORD did not make you His beloved nor choose you because you were greater in number than any of the peoples, since you were the fewest of all peoples, but because the LORD loved you and kept the oath which He swore to your forefathers.” (Deuteronomy 7:7-8)
Far from circular reasoning, God’s explanation settles once and for all that He chose to love them. Because He did, he made an oath to the forefathers—sworn by His own Name. And, having made an oath, God’s character guarantees the fulfillment of His promises, as the next verse in Deuteronomy makes clear:
“Know therefore that the LORD your God, He is God, the faithful God, who keeps His covenant and His faithfulness to a thousand generations for those who love Him and keep His commandments.” (Deuteronomy 7:9).
The same verse also makes clear that His righteous indignation is directed against those who hate Him. Also, His wrath is invoked against those who despise those He has chosen to love.
Whose Side Are You On?
Since the time of the Patriarchs, there has been a clear line of demarcation between those who love the Lord and those who reject Him and flaunt their unrighteousness. Similarly, God weighs nations based on their attitude toward Israel. Bless the apple of His eye and be blessed; curse those He has lavished with His love (even impudently saying, “Aha” when He disciplined His chosen people) and be cursed (Ezekiel 25:2-3, 7).
In recent years, the battle lines have become clearer. Entire nations have dedicated themselves to the eradication of Israel—by which they mean the nation, the people, and the Land. Satanically inspired nations such as Iran and terrorist groups like Hamas have launched murderous attacks time after time, but their efforts will never succeed. They will do great harm and cause much pain and suffering, but God has promised to preserve Israel in order that a great remnant will cry out to Him just prior to Jesus returning to reign on the Earth.
Sadly, in the midst of this cosmic battle, many Christians sit idly on the sidelines. Indoctrinated to believe that God shifted His focus from Israel to the Church, they are ambivalent to the political and spiritual maneuvers that beset the descendants of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. But God is certainly not done with them. His promise to bless those who bless Israel is still valid today because all His promises are eternally “Yes, and Amen.”
So, why Israel? Because God has lavished His love on the Land, the nation, and the people. And, because, even now, they represent the greatest sign that our Jewish Messiah is at the gates of Heaven, ready to come and collect His Bride.
Come, and See
For the past two years, pilgrimage groups have been unable to visit Israel with the regularity they once enjoyed. In the midst of war and conflict, Lamb & Lion Ministries had to cancel multiple pilgrimage trips. The value of traveling to the Promised Land to see God’s prophetic Word coming true before your eyes is testified by every person who has gone in the past. To walk where Jesus walked, and to stand where He will come again to reign from Mount Zion, is an experience that is guaranteed to thrill the heart of every student of Scripture who longs for Jesus to come again.
If you would like to join Lamb & Lion Ministries this October 11-22 on a spiritual adventure to Israel, check out our Israel Tours page! Or, give us a call at 972-736-3567.
This trip, long ago, was slated to have a “Battle for Israel” theme. Given the miraculous deliverance God demonstrated through the recent onslaught of attacks, our tour will not merely consider ancient battles and future conflicts—we’ll celebrate God’s providence and provision in our own day and age.
Since we’re already three months past mid-October, please don’t delay! We hope to finalize our pilgrim list by the end of August.
Come as a couple, come alone, or come with a loved one or friend. But if you have the means and the heart’s desire, come and see. If you simply cannot go yourself, consider sending someone on your behalf so that they can be blessed and return to proclaim what God is doing in the Land and with the people He loves.
Are the verses quoted applicable to political Israel? Did God inspire those verses to approve of the actions of Netanyahu? When political Israel sins against others, are Christians required to put aside discernment and scriptural teaching to rubber stamp all their actions, no matter how ungodly? Yes indeed the Lord has plans for Israel post rapture, but until then are we to sit by and not hold Israel accountable for their crimes and sins against Gazan’s and others they attack?
“Sins against Gazans and others they attack”? How is Israel fighting off terrorist organizations that exist solely to murder every Jew on the planet a sin??
fair enough — Israel like all nations has the right to defend itself– let’s go in deeper though, surely you must admit there is a point in which one must stop. The murder of thousands of civilians and children is no longer fighting off terrorist organizations . Are you possibly saying that every single death in Gaza at the hand of Israel is justified? Do we ignore the new testament commands to turn the other cheek and love your enemies when it comes to Israel? I cannot imagine the Lord wants US to green light and approve of every single action secular Israel takes, ?
One stops when one is no longer threatened. That means the entire eradication of all terrorist organizations such as Hamas and Hezbollah.
Supporting Israel is not about Christians supporting the Jews and Israel for who they are currently in their fallen state, but for what the Lord is right now working through them to bring a remnant to salvation and in fulfillment of His promises. We believe Christians should support the work of the Lord.
My sermon on why Christians should support Israel – https://www.youtube.com/live/wBbhYebbxOY?t=10420s and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JElw1Er9vgg&list=PLFRtcZUaLr_HlTkqZpr4tB9_xo2TbShlH&index=15.
I am a believer and I replied respectfully but somehow my response was erased? Yes Israel and all nations have the right to self defense. However what’s happening in Gaza is genocide. Is it your position that no matter what Israel does, Christians ought to approve without discernment? The commands of Jesus to turn the other cheek and to love our enemies do not apply to Israel? Is it your position that every murder of children and woman without exception in Gaza was justified? God forbid. I find the lack of fairness and discernment deeply troubling. Lastly was God commanding us to approve of avery action of secular and political Israel without exception?
Robert, there is no “genocide” (the deliberate and systematic extermination of a national, racial, political, or cultural group) going on in Gaza. Hamas not only terrorizes Israel, but the Gazans it subjugates and uses as human shields. If you want the Gazan people freed, Hamas must be destroyed in order to free them.
Sir the ex prime minister of Israel says Israel is now guilty of war crimes. See below. To say there is no genocide is to ignore the truth. I think he knows more than we do? We agree Hamas needs to be destroyed. Your lack of willingness to ever say Israel can do something wrong is very very upsetting and not at all Christ like, who calls us to discern right from wrong publicly. You haven’t answered one of my respectful questions, ie Is it your position that the murder of children and woman without exception in Gaza was justified in your desire to continually bless Israel? There are many Christian Ganzans who have been killed there as well. Your posts are so one sided.

Asking opposition party PM Olmert his opinion would be the same as asking Former President Joe Biden what he thinks about the new Trump administration. Of course he’s going to be against anything that the opposition party does. Whether the Netanyahu government is actually contemplating starving Hamas out would need to be substantiated as not just rhetoric. But, no government in the world has bent over backwards as much to aid their enemies with free food, energy, and patience as Israel has done with Gaza (which Israel gave the land up at great expense in 2005).
Thank you, Dr. Nathan Jones. Having friends in Israel I see and hear the truth all the time and it is upsetting that these lies are being put forward and believed. I don’t understand why if a group of people in all their existence that has ever only talked about wiping the Jews off the earth and whose posts and reports have been proven to be lies (albeit in hidden retractions on “page 12” of the liberal news) is still not questioned but the liberal left’s propaganda and lies are believed whole heartedly. Has no one been around a child that is perpetually in trouble, constantly lies and every word spoken had to be scrutinized? Seems that the world has lost this discernment. Even the death reports put out by Hamas and the UN had been retracted way way down from what Hamas initially said and more in line with Israel’s numbers because Hamas cannot come up with names to go with the numbers. But again, what was splashed on the front page of the liberal news was retracted with factual numbers days later and hidden on the proverbial “page 12”. So sad to see that our brothers and sisters, who in most part would not believe anything the liberal left is spouting is ready and ok to believe this. It is disturbing actually. I want to believe they are not doing their own research and are agreeing with a trusted commentator who has not done research as well. That is what I am choosing to believe. I wanted to encourage you, Dr. Jones. There are many of us out there that stand with you and with Israel. Maybe we should not be surprised of even this in these last days.
Beth, good points! We expect the world to be hostile to Israel, because the “prince of this world” hates the Jewish people. What’s truly sad are Christians who get caught up believing all this anti-Israel propaganda.
So True Dr. Jones, Satan and his demonic forces generate lies and hate and cause the darkness, death, and war we observe in the world today. Because of Jerusalem’s crucial role in the plan of God, God’s enemy…Satan, has launched a spiritual war against Jerusalem and the Jewish people.
U.S. Ambassador Mike Huckabee (as of July 2025) sent a sharply critical letter to Israel’s Interior Minister, warning that the Israeli government was effectively discriminating against Christian institutions by blocking clergy and missionary visas—halting long‑standing visa practices and subjecting groups like the Baptist Convention of Israel and Christian Missionary Alliance to new investigations. He threatened to publicly declare that “Israel no longer welcomes Christian organizations,” warn American Christians to reconsider travel or donations to Israel, and hinted at reciprocal visa restrictions for Israeli citizens if the policy continued.
Col. Moore, I agree with this article, and have not been deceived by Hamas/ Gaza starvation propaganda for one second. Israel is in an existential fight for its survival. Moreover, no one has followed “ rules of engagement “ better than Israel.
In Revelations our Savior addresses a group of people “ who say you are Jews, but are not.” It is this group who give Israel a bad name. They are globalists, in many cases, reside outside Israel, and are extremely wealthy & powerful. They are in technology, pharmaceuticals, government, media, entertainment, real estate and criminal enterprises.
Israel unfairly gets guilt by association by these I would call JINOS, like RINOS.
It will take Messiah Himself to end their grip of control. Maranatha
Thankyou,, The Lord sees all and his mighty hand will rectify everything. We now know that Senior members of Hamas have withdrawn from the talks with Israel and have moved to Turkey as International Pressure builds on Israel due to this alleged starvation crisis. Meanwhile, footage from Gaza markets suggest that there is discrepancy between Hamas claims of famine and reality on the ground.
The glitch that helps Hamas is that the humanitarian pauses undermine leverage in negotiations with Israel, giving Hamas key concessions without reciprocations. Netanyahu said, “Hamas wants to break us.” Why doesn’t the Red Cross take immediate actions and provide aid to the starving hostages from Israel, who are living under brutal conditions?
I am so glad Lamb & Lion continue to do what’s right in the eyes of God.(The Truth is important for the Spiritual battle we face.) We know that the Lord wants us to support the rights of the Jewish state. God never wants the Holy Land divided. Multiple times there are attempts to divide God’s land and make a 2 state solution which will never work.
Isaiah 60:1 says “Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glow of the Lord rises upon you. See, the darkness covers the earth and thick darkness is over the peoples, but the Lord rises upon you. and his glory appears over you. Nations will come to your light, and kings to the. brightness of your dawn. God never breaks his promises, and he is in control of History. The Arabs relentless hostility to the Zionist enterprise has proven self-defeating, ruinous, and even tragic for many Palestinian Arabs. Satan invests his energy in attacking what God loves, and Jerusalem and God’s chosen people are prime targets. Consequently, they have always had to defend their historical connection to their beloved city. Satan believes he can disrupt God’s role for Jerusalem, the city of peace and obstruct God’s plan to bring everlasting peace on earth through his Son, Jesus the Messiah. God will reclaim dominion over this world, and Jesus will sit on His throne, and Satan’s corrupt rule will end. Satan deceives the world into believing that Jerusalem does not belong to the God of Israel, but Satan will not win. Revelation 20:10 And the devil, who deceived them was thrown into the Lake of burning sulfur, where the beast and the false prophet had been thrown. They will be tormented day and night for ever an ever. Remember, Jesus also ministered in a hostile environment. Yet the multitudes were drawn to Him because he offered a genuine peace, love, hope, promise, and truth….Dramatic contradictions to the darkness enshrouding the people in Imperial Rome.
