Origins of the Antichrist: His Fate, Our Hope

In Origins of the Antichrist: Polled we looked at visitor responses to the poll question: “Where will the Antichrist arise from?” In seeking his origins we looked at the Antichrist’s character and career, then dived deep into the passages about his origin. We conclude this series on the Antichrist by looking at his fate, which proves God fulfills His promises, giving believers hope.

His Empire in Revolt

The Bible indicates that as the Antichrist becomes obsessed with the Jews midway into the 7-year Tribulation, he loses interest in his worldwide empire, and segments of that empire begin to revolt. The core of the revolt is centered in the Asian nations who raise an army of 200 million and send it marching across Asia toward Israel where they hope to engage the Antichrist in a decisive battle for their freedom.

Daniel says that while the Antichrist and his armies are rampaging around the Middle East, looting the nations and killing the Jews, the Antichrist suddenly hears “rumors” that “disturb him” (Daniel 11:40-44). He evidently hears about the great Asian army coming to challenge him. He responds by consolidating his forces “between the seas and the beautiful Holy Mountain” (Daniel 11: 45). This is the same area that is referred to in Revelation as the Valley of Armageddon.

His Armies Destroyed

We are told that the Euphrates River dries up at this time and the great Asian army crosses to engage the Antichrist and his armies in battle (Revelation 16:12). As they fight, the Lord Jesus Christ breaks from the heavens, returns to the Mount of Olives in Jerusalem, and speaks a supernatural word that causes all the armies to drop dead in their tracks. “Their eyes rot in their sockets and their tongues rot in their mouths” (Zechariah 14:12), and the valley is filled with blood up to the horses’ bridles for a distance of two hundred miles (Revelation 14:20).

His Kingdom Conquered

Paul says the Antichrist will be slain by “the breath of the Lord” (2 Thessalonians 2:8). John says the Lord will make war against the Antichrist “with the sword of His mouth” (Revelation 2:16). Daniel says the Antichrist’s “dominion will be taken away, annihilated and destroyed forever” (Daniel 7:26). Daniel also says that the Antichrist will be thrown into “the burning fire” (Daniel 7:11).

His Soul Banished

John confirms the fate of the Antichrist in Revelation when he says that both the Antichrist and the False Prophet will be thrown into “the lake of fire which burns with brimstone” (Revelation 19:20) where “they will be tormented day and night forever and ever” (Revelation 20:10). This means that the Antichrist and the False Prophet will be the first occupants of Hell. (Satan will not be confined there until the end of the Millennium — Revelation 20:10).

Our Hope Given

The good news for believers is that we will not have to experience the horror of the Antichrist. We are never told to watch for the Antichrist; rather, we are told to look for Jesus Christ. In 1 Thessalonians 1:10 we are assured that we who are believers are waiting for Jesus to return to “deliver us from the wrath to come.” That is a glorious promise. That’s why Paul calls the Rapture our “blessed hope” (Titus 2:13), and its also the reason that he tells us to “comfort one another” with the promise of the Rapture (1 Thessalonians 4:18).

  • Nathan, very interesting article. I think we have all seen too many movies profiling the injury to the head to be literal. So, I never even considered that it would be a ressurection…

On a side note, I noticed an article today saying that Ultra-Orthodox Jews were participating in a prayer calling for the end of the worldwide financial crisis at the Yeshivat Ha-Ran Jewish seminar in Jerusalem.

Since the Jews rejected Christ… what happens to their prayers?

  • Since God is omnipotent, He hears everyone's prayers, yet accepts those that are truly made to Him and not to a false god. But, He moves forward with the ones that are in alignment with his good and perfect will.

With so many signs that Jesus is coming soon, this economic disaster's timing shows it will most likely continue the trend of nations buying up everyone's wealth and moving the world towards a one-world government. And then, the disasters during the Tribulation will move the world to bankruptcy and starvation (Rev. 6:5-6). Israel may indeed be the sole country that keeps its wealth till near the end of the Tribulation, according to Ezekiel 38 & 39.

We can trust, though, that God will uplift His saints through the trials of this age, and keep them by Rapture from the Tribulation to come (1 Thes. 5:9).

  • Thanks Nathan… What do you think about Sarkozy… does he fit the historical requirements of the Anti-Christ? Seems his moves are in alignment with location, EU affiliation, etc. He gives me the willys… but just wonder what your thougths were. He even pushed to have the power of the EU Presidency increased… and is now working to have it not rotate between the nations. He has the prince of the people thing down too? His maternal grandfather was born in Greece but was one of eight sons of the founder of the Rabbinical School of Thessaloniki. His monther was of French Catholic and a Thessalonikan Sephardi Jewish background.

  • That’s good info on the French president, Colleen – thanks!

Unfortunately, we just won’t know who the Antichrist will be until he makes a covenant with Israel (Dan. 9:27). And, thank goodness we won’t know because of the Rapture! As a leader in the EU, the current French president may become one of the ten kings that serve the Antichrist.

  • The term Anti-Christ is not in the Bible has a reference the two beasts of Revelation chapter 13.

End-time prophecy is confronted with THREE separate and unique evil entities, the dragon, the beast of Revelation 13:1, and the beast of Revelation 13:11.

At Revelation16:13 and Revelation 19:20 the dragon is Satan, the beast is the beast of Revelation 13:1, the false prophet is the beast of Revelation 13:11.

ALL persons/individuals who deny that Jesus is the Christ, who deny the Father and the Son, are anti-Christ. (1 Jn.2:18, 1 Jn.2:22, 1 Jn.4:3, 2 Jn.1:7).

  • True what the Bible says about those who deny Jesus as the Christ have the spirit of Antichrist. But, an actual person will fulfill the role of Antichrist as well. Too many detailed references in the Bible (see Career) attribute individual actions to this one prophetic man.

  • Great article. I have just found this site so my postings are a little late. In my opinion, the Antichrist will make peace with Israel from this recent Hamas/Gaza war. The world is getting severely anti-Semetic and the cries for the war to end are everywhere. I am praying Psalm 121, I know the LORD neither sleeps nor slumbers. Praise His Name that the times are in His Hands!
