Increasing Attacks on the Miracles of Christ

Does Jesus’ miracles prove that He is God in the flesh?

In this interview, Dr. David Reagan and I finish our discussion on the end time prophetic significance of the increasing attacks on the character of Christ, later televised on our program Christ in Prophecy.

Dr. Reagan: The miracles of Jesus were for the purpose of proving or let’s say affirming His divinity. That is what the miracles were all about.

There are 35 miracles of Jesus that are mentioned in the Scriptures, but we know there were many more because one of the last verses of the Gospel of John (21:25) is, “Jesus did many other things as well. If every one of them were written down, I suppose that even the whole world would not have room for the books that would be written.”

Of the 35 miracles of Jesus specifically mentioned, it’s interesting that there are different types of miracles. For example, there’s the miracle that shows that He is the Lord of time when He turned water into wine instantly. He didn’t need any time. He is the Lord of time, just as He spoke the Creation into existence.

You know the God of the atheist is time. They think if you have enough time you can do anything. If you have 10,000 monkeys typing for ten million years they will produce the works of Shakespeare accidently.

Nathan Jones: Time plus nothing equals something to them.

Dr. Reagan: Yes, but God doesn’t need time, so He is the Lord of time.

When Jesus stilled the sea, He was the Lord of nature. When He walked on the water, He was the Lord of physics. Jesus is the Lord of the laws of Nature. He created them and He can violate them. When Jesus would say to a person that He didn’t need to come and touch the person to heal then, and that He could speak the word and they would be healed, He was the Lord of space. When Jesus cast out demons, He was the Lord of the supernatural. So these are evidences that He really was who He said He was, and the evidence is overwhelming.

We have first hand accounts in the Gospels about Jesus in the flesh performing the miracles of God. These accounts are not just stories that people made up. People came from all over. They came because they wanted to see miracles. Jesus was actually disturbed about that because He wanted the people to come to Him because of His teachings, but they came because of His miracles. They wanted healings and they wanted bread, but they didn’t exactly want whatever He was teaching. Jesus believed his teachings were the greatest gifts, not His miracles.

Nathan Jones: Jesus taught flat out in John 10:25, “The works I do in my Father’s name testify about me.” Later Jesus said that we should believe the works so that we may know and understand that the Father was in Him, and that Jesus was the Father. Fantastic verses!

Dr. Reagan: Yes, they really are, and that was what it was all about when it came to His miracles.

Nathan Jones: Two of the miracles really beat up on by most liberal theologians is the virgin birth and the resurrection of Jesus.

Dr. Reagan: Those were two central events of His life. They are the two events that point to the fact that Jesus truly was God in the flesh. In fact, the Resurrection is so important that Paul says if you don’t believe in the Resurrection then you don’t have any hope. You can’t even be a Christian if you don’t believe in the Resurrection. Any person who claims to be a Christian and denies the Resurrection is not a Christian. They can call themselves one, but that would be like me going into a garage and saying I am a car when you know I’m not.

Well, those are the two key miracles in Jesus’ life, and because they are so key I have devoted two entire chapters in my new book Jesus the Lamb and the Lion to the reality of the Virgin Birth and then to the evidence of it, and another chapter to the reality of the Resurrection and another one to the evidence of it. I could go on all day about both of them as you well know, but folks are just going to have to get the book to see all of the arguments that I present there because I give a lot of arguments right out of the Scriptures themselves that I think prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that Jesus was born of a virgin and Jesus was resurrected from the dead.

Nathan Jones: If Jesus was neither born of a virgin or resurrected from the dead then we don’t have God in the flesh, do we?

Dr. Reagan: We would not have God in the flesh. It was absolutely essential that the Messiah be virgin born and that He be resurrected from the dead in order for Him to be God in the flesh and in order for Him to be the Savior of this world.

  • Hello Nathan

Thank you for your prayers. Sad news I'm afraid.

Welsh mine rescue: Third Gleision miner found dead…

One still missing. Their families are distraught, the poor, dear souls. God love them and comfort them.

    Maranatha!

  • Nathan:
Is a person saved if they DO NOT believe in the diety of Christ?

I say they are NOT SAVED because they believe in a false Jesus.

  • God does not violate His own spiritual laws; neither does He violate the physical laws. We live in a 3 dimensional sphere; God is inside and outside of this realm. God exist in a realm that has laws that are superior to the 3 dimensional laws, they do not violate them but take them to a level we will not experience until the fullness of redemption. It is the sin nature that caused the laws to not work to their fullest of redemptive power. It is why the devil says, did God really say, so he can twist things. The power that exists within Christ is the fullness of redemption. We cannot possess even a measure of this within our sinful flesh; we can experience some of it through the Holy Spirit of God, at His will, not ours.

  • Brother,
It is so dangerous to depend on miracles to testify Jesus is The Son of God. Many pagan religion in South-East Asia claim and prove that their gods can also perform miracles.
What do you thing about this issue. Remember in Moses time…Pharaoh's magician also can perform some of the miracles

  • Luxuryoption, I'd say no, for those who deny the deity of Christ deny the belief in Him as the Son of God which is essential to the requirements for salvation found in John 3:16. They have accepted a "different gospel" which the Apostle Paul condemns (2 Cor. 11:4; Gal. 1:6).
