The Christ in Prophecy Journal

Antichrist Book: Prophecy Forum

Dr. David Reagan has recently released his eleventh and latest book titled The Man of Lawlessness: The Antichrist in the Tribulation. I interviewed him about his new book on the Antichrist and asked him his opinion on some very controversial eschatological questions.

What about the Bible prophecy forum included in the book?

Nathan Jones: One of the neat things, and not because I was in it, that you have in your book is a prophecy forum where you asked 22 different Bible prophecy experts different questions about the Antichrist, some of them while they were on TV. By the way, it was my very first time being interviewed by Dr. Reagan on TV and I was pretty nervous. I loved the questions and I loved the different points of view these experts gave. Could you tell us a little about the forum?

Dr. Reagan: That is really the most unique aspect of this book. I’m hoping to write some future books that might have the same characteristic. Section Two of my book is entitled, “A Prophecy Forum.”

Well, about three years ago we went to the annual Pre-Trib Conference that is held in Dallas every year.

Nathan Jones: That’s Tim LaHaye’s big conference.

Dr. Reagan: People who believe in a Pre-Tribulation Rapture gather together so that there are hundreds of people discussing Bible prophecy. We reserved a room and I sat various prophecy experts down and interview them about the Antichrist. I interviewed about twelve at that time and asked them five questions about the Antichrist. Since, our ministry has put together a series of “Christ in Prophecy” television programs. People always love those kind of programs.

Nathan Jones: They are the most popular shows on our YouTube channel.

Dr. Reagan: In interviews you end up with so many different viewpoints from people. You have to understand, although Pre-millennialist agree on the general picture — the picture that the Church is going to be taken out before the Tribulation and there’s going to be seven years of horrible wrath of God on this earth and then Jesus Christ will return — they disagree about a lot of the details. People are not always aware of that. I was also trying to demonstrate that particularly with this Antichrist subject.

Nathan Jones: Who are some of the people you asked?

Dr. Reagan: Here is the point. Not only did we include the twelve that we did in the interviews on television, but I also sent out invitations to ten others, so we have a total of 22 Bible prophecy experts. We have their pictures and their names in my book, including Nathan Jones of Lamb & Lion Ministries.

Nathan Jones: Nathan Jones — the least known of the entire group.

Dr. Reagan: You know people like Mark Hitchcock, who is one of the most prolific writers today on Bible prophecy. There is David Hocking, Dave Hunt, Tim LaHaye, and Chuck Missler. The list goes on and on.

Nathan Jones: You included a woman too.

Dr. Reagan: That’s right, Caryl Matrisciana.

Nathan Jones: Good to see her in there.

Dr. Reagan: In fact, I wanted Jan Markell to comment, but she wasn’t able. She was ill at the time.

I ended up getting 22 Bible prophecy experts to answer questions about the Antichrist. They had a lot of different viewpoints and a lot of different answers. For example, the very first question was, “Will the Antichrist be a Jew?” Once I got all their answers, I wrote an essay that summarizes all the different points that these people made. Then I created a chart at the end of the question that indicates what they believe. So, for example, we had 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 who said he could possibly be a Jew. We had two who said he will be a Jew, and all the rest said there was no possibility. So, you see, there is difference of an opinion. We did this on a number of these questions. We had five questions in all that I asked them, and for each one I gave a summary of specific answers of what they said.

Because of getting so much input by so many Bible prophecy experts, I think this is just an absolutely fascinating part of the book.

Probably the answer that surprised me the most was the one that we received from Tim LaHaye. Of course, he answered all five questions.

Nathan Jones: Yes, you changed his view on something, didn’t you?

Dr. Reagan: Well, not necessarily me. He wrote back and said it had to do with the question of whether or not the Antichrist would be killed and resurrected from the dead. He wrote me back and said something to the effect, “You know, in the Left Behind series me and my fellow writer took the position that the Antichrist would be murdered and would be then resurrected from the dead. This would cause the whole world to turn to him.” Dr. LaHaye also told me in his response that he had never written anything that received so much criticism from fellow Bible prophecy experts; not from the general public, but from the fellows. He continued, “It caused me to go back to the Scriptures and to really study them on this particular topic. As a result of studying it like I’ve never studied it before, I came to the conclusion that I was wrong in the Left Behind series and that the Antichrist really is not going to be killed and resurrected from the dead, but it’s going to be a great deception. He will appear to have been killed and resurrected, but it is going to be a deception.”

Nathan Jones: That’s because Satan does not have the power to resurrect anybody, correct?

Dr. Reagan: That’s true. Some of the fellows I interviewed do believe that the Antichrist will be killed and resurrected, but Tim LaHaye said that he had changed his mind. I would say that most of them, the vast majority of them on that question, believe the “resurrection” of the Antichrist is going to be a deception of some kind or another.

The person who really wrote the most eloquently about the resurrection of the Antichrist was Phillip Goodman who has a Bible prophecy ministry in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He wrote eloquently about this.

Nathan Jones: He always does.

Dr. Reagan: Phillip emphasized the significance of the resurrection of Jesus Christ. The resurrection is what certifies Jesus as the Son of God and as our Messiah and Savior. He said no one is ever going to experience a resurrection like Jesus Christ. Even the resurrections that we read about in the Bible are never called resurrections. Those are about the persons who came back from the dead. They never really used the word because the Hebrew concept of resurrection is truly the idea that you come back in a glorified body. The people who died in the Bible and were resurrected were really resuscitated, because they did die yet again. Jesus is the only one who ever died and came back from the dead. He is still alive. Amen!

A true resurrection is not going to happen to the Antichrist. That’s going to be one of the many deceptions that the Antichrist and his False Prophet will pull on the world.

But again, the point I was trying to make in this whole section is that even for those of us who take a plain sense literal approach to the interpretation of Bible prophecy, we come out with a general overview that we can agree on. Sure, we disagree about many, many points. Will the Antichrist headquarters be in New York? Will it be in Rome? Will it be in Babylon? Things of that nature we disagree on, but all of them have good biblical arguments.

Nathan Jones: Yes. That’s to me what I liked most about the forum. Even though 22 people had their different opinions, and some of them I didn’t agree with, I got to learn what the other biblically-based opinions are. So, by the time I was done reading, I knew not just one or two viewpoints, but I could get five or six arguments for the same subject right there in one chapter. I might agree and I might not. But again, like you always say, these are not primary doctrines that we need to have a disagreement on.

Dr. Reagan: That’s right. The Bible is just not always real clear about some of these minute points of Bible prophecy that some people get their noses all bent out of shape over, especially concerning the Antichrist.

So, that’s what I tried to do. I think as a result of that forum, this particular section of the book is going to be something that people will find very, very interesting.

Nathan Jones: Well, I certainly did.

Dr. Reagan: Particularly, because it contains viewpoints by Nathan Jones.

Nathan Jones: Oh, THAT will be the big draw right there. Nathan Jones, buy the book because he’s in it!

No, seriously, great book. I really loved it. I really did. To me the most special part of the entire book was getting to read all the different people’s views.

In the next part of this interview concerning Dr. David Reagan’s newest book, The Man of Lawlessness: The Antichrist in the Tribulation, I ask him if he believes the Antichrist will be a Jew.

  • The Beast has seven heads and 10 horns! This is clearly not a reference to an actual assasination on an individual! The seven heads represent the seven ancient kingdoms of the world, while Revelation 13:2 narrows down the list! We have a leopard (Greecian Empire), bear (Medo-Persian Empire), and lion (Babylon), see also Daniel 7!

The Lion depicted as Babylon is the head, as is also identified in Daniel 7! Babylon specifically was granted control over all the earth by the Lord God (Daniel 2:37,38) and this will also be provided to the AntiChrist to fulfill all things! The deadly head wound that is miraculously healed is the Kingdom of Babylon (one of the seven heads).

Revelation 13:3 declares, "And I saw one of his heads (plural) as it were wounded to death; and his deadly head wound was healed: and all the world wondered after the beast". Where this idea of an assasination and resurrection of the AntiChrist came from, I do not know, clearly the scriptures dispute such an interpretation whether real or deception!

This should be an interesting rebuttal!!

  • I am not responding to this article, but I need to know if God will forgive me for hating the Gov for what they are doing to America, on purpose.. I know you shouldn't hate anyone.. but I see Red every time I see Obama on tv. I have tried thinking about how awful it would be for anyone to be in hell, but it still doesn't help..Is there anyway I can stop feeling this way.. I know I should, but I can't talk myself out of all this hate for him and his follows in DC.

  • Anon,

Actually, I think you are supposed to hate something…evil.

Rodney said "Revelation 13:3 declares, "And I saw one of his heads (plural) as it were wounded to death; and his deadly head wound was healed: and all the world wondered after the beast". Where this idea of an assasination and resurrection of the AntiChrist came from, I do not know, clearly the scriptures dispute such an interpretation whether real or deception!"

    Rodney,

I, too, read the word to be plural, "one of his headS", and therefore have been suspect of the wound to a head assumption.

One the other hand, doesn't it say this wound would appear to be fatal? What is your take on that?

  • Rodney,

To clarify…what is your take on this part: "and his deadly head wound was healed: and all the world wondered after the beast"

The "one of his heads" does not seem to support the human head wound but the following part does.

  • Anon,

Expanding on my previous comment (for clarification) I was saying Christians are supposed to hate evil.

We can hate the evil acts done by anyuone including the president (whose policies and values I can't stand myself) or even a fellow Chrisitian. Can a Christian do evil? Yes. We are forgiven but not perfect. Until we are transformed into our eternal bodies we are subject to a sinful nature.

So, try hating what Obama's does. Hate his stance on abortion. Hate his hostility towards Israel. Hate is stance on gay marriage. For these can be aruged as evil actions. Separate the man from his actions. We can pass judgement on Obama's actions as president and God will pass judgement on Obama's soul.

  • to me to seperate a person from his actions is very difficult because their actions define who they are in my eyes at least. God does he seperate our actions from who we are? only if we have christ to cover those actions with his salvation. i wish i could be a more forgiving person but at least for now i sadly am not.

  • Rodney,

Thanks. That would fit into a scenario of the "non human head wound".

I can say I know where I stand on this but I lean towards it not being an assassination because of the pluar of heads.

  • Tori,

It is a fine line. That's certain. For example, I do think that Hitler's actions subject him to personal hatred by Christians for there is no question that this was an evil man.

But I'm not ready to put Obama in that category or even close to it. I admit he makes me very, very angry at times and pushes me to the point of hate because the differences between conservative and liberal as massive, but I still say my any hate I've had towards Obama isn't close to the hate I have for others, like Hitler, Manson, etc.

  • Thank you so much for responding to my questions.. I do know that I shouldn't hate anyone, but like I said no matter how I try to look at it. I can't change my feelings..Obama is systematically trying to destroy America, and even to give it to our enemy.. I firmly believe that..That is my fear.. I know where I am going, but I feel that some of the people I know and love aren't..

I am even at the point of asking God to please get rid of him.. and I have never thought thoughts like that in my life..

I remember when it was announced that Obama was running for president,, a chill went down my back.. and I didn't have a clue who or what he was.. I had never been into politics before.. I always voted for the one who I felt believed in Jesus, but in this case I felt I had better check up on this man more.. and I have found out that although I know he isn't the Devil, but he is in league with him, along with the other gang memebers he has..

  • Anonymous, sometimes it is not hatred, sometimes it is righteous anger, we being believers in Christ and provided discernment by the Holy Spirit. Perhaps God is also revealing to you the true identity of this one that rose from obscurity, having questions concerning his religious affiliation and origins of his birth! We still have to be able to distinquish whether or not it is hatred of an individual or righteous anger as it is revealed what he will become!

  • Rodney said "…as it is revealed what he will become!"

This has been on my mind. What is he to BECOME. That IS the key.

Obama has shown hints at having the means and willingness to act as a dictator and not a president. His executive orders, his non-scrutinized czars, his bullying tactics against the Supreme Court, his villifying of his opponents, etc. Add to this his messianic personality and you do have the MAKINGS of a dictator. Will he become one? At the moments I say no. BUT this is the first time I've ever believed it possible of a president. They even have the dictatorial symbol in place, the Obama "O".

But it is more than the president. It is his followers, too. Since they are of the liberal "Christian" and secular variety, they are invested in him as a savior figure. His followers faint in his presence. They have their children sing songs in praise of him. The put the Obama "O" in place of the stars on the American flag. They blindly follow their leader.

So, Rodney is right. What will this man BECOME? That is the key to everything.

  • Nathan. Or anyone who wants to answer…
I have a question.. off subject tho, sorry,
Im reading Ez ch 40… and i was wondering… why, in the millenial kingdom, is the temple to be built with walls and guard quarters?

  • Susie, I'll answer your question with two questions. Why does the New Jerusalem have a guardian angel at each of the gates? And, why does God have special angels that protect His throne? While we're not told, based on the fact God needs no guardian, I'm thinking honor guard.

The Millennial Jerusalem will near the end be attacked by Satan and his hordes during the Second Gog-Magog Battle (Rev. 20:7-9). But, Jesus just speaks and His enemies are all burned up.
