Forgotten Promises of Christmas: House of Jacob

As promised in Luke 1:26-33, is Jesus reigning over the house of Jacob forever?

This question was posed by Dr. David Reagan to his Christmas special panel of guest Bible prophecy teachers: Don McGee of Crown and Sickle Ministries, Dennis Pollock of Spirit of Grace Ministries, and Don Perkins of According to Prophecy Ministries.

“Now in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a city in Galilee called Nazareth, to a virgin engaged to a man whose name was Joseph of the descendants of David. And the virgin’s name was Mary. And coming in, he said to her, hail, favored one, the Lord is with you. But she was greatly troubled at this statement and kept pondering what kind of salutation this might be. And the angel said to her, Do not be afraid, Mary for you have found favor with God. And behold, you will conceive in your womb, and bear a son, and you shall name him Jesus. He will be great, and He will be called the Son of the Most High; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David; and He will reign over the house of Jacob forever; and His kingdom will have no end.” – Luke 1:26-33

Dr. Reagan: The second seemingly unfulfilled prophecy to Mary in Luke 1:26-33 says that Jesus will reign over the house of Jacob forever. Some people say that the house of Jacob is referring to the Church. Is that the Church?

Dennis Pollock: Well, no, the house of Jacob is the house of Jacob. I think where people miss this is that there are parallels between Israel and the Church. For example, Israel was circumcised; the males in Israel were circumcised. Well, in the Church, in Christ, we’re circumcised of heart. So, there are parallels, but that doesn’t negate the realities of the promises to Israel.

In Ezekiel 36, God says, “I’m going to give them a new heart, put a new spirit within them.” We’ve often grabbed that promise that it applies to what happens when you are born again, and it is. But, that doesn’t negate the fact that God said to Israel, “I’m going to do that for you.” And so here, whatever other spiritual application you may want to make, and maybe we’ll get to Heaven and find out there were some, the truth is this was said about Israel, “He would reign over the house of Jacob.” God means what He says and He says what He means.

Dr. Reagan: Is Jacob the Church?

Don Perkins: No, no. Jesus understood it so well. In the Book of John, after He did the miracle of feeding the 5,000, the Bible says that the people looked to Him and they would have made Him King. The Bible said that Jesus perceived that they would make Him king and so He hid Himself from them, from Israel. What happened? He would not allow them to make Him the king over Israel before the time. He came first to die for the world, and then later based on these prophecies He will physically come back to fulfill that prophecy.

Dr. Reagan: Any other comments about Jacob being the Church?

Don McGee: I see a terrible inconsistency with people who say that this is the Church. They like to argue that we are all children of Abraham by faith, and that’s true. But, if we were spiritual Israel, then it would not be the house of Jacob. It would be called instead “the house of Abraham” that would be mentioned here.

In the next segment of this “Forgotten Promises of Christmas” series, we’ll look deeper at the third of the three unfulfilled promises in Luke 1:26-33 concerning there being no end to Christ’s Kingdom.

  • "Need to throw in a Post-Tribber or cultist to fire up the conversation."

Or Dr Reagan could do another critique of the Islamic AC or the post-trib/pre-wrath rapture. That'll warm up the conversation some.

I'm kinda surprised the blog hasn't had a visit from the Seventh day Adventist folk. They seem to do a lot of business at CIP.

I guess facebook's the "in thing" nowadays.

  • Not only am I nervous using the internet, its a sad fact that the WORLD'S use of 'Facebook' is responsible for a great deal of gossip and slander, or is that libel? Anyway my hubby gets really cross about it and I can honestly say to him 'I never use it'. Best I keep it that way me thinks.

Our weather is bloomin 'orrible, snow and ice – I'm not allowed out! I have NEVER know weather like this before Christmas day.

Love and care about y'all, see ya soon,Jesus is coming!

    MARANATHA!

  • Seriously! I just heard a trumpet sounding! It did make me jump, several times it blasted but sounded 'strangled'.

Its some bright spark in a red van driving round the houses selling things. He's brave, our roads are treacherous, no salt or grit.

My hubby toboganned down a very steep hill on Saturday with our precious grandson on board. That was in a 4×4 Land Rover – all he could do was steer round abandoned cars! Praise The Lord they were safe.

  • Dr. Reagan presented a paper at the Pre-Trib conference on the Muslim Antichrist view. Joe VanKoevering was in the audience and during the Q&A afterwards acted as the Joel's Trumpet gang usually do. If Dr. Reagan repurposes the paper, I'll see about getting it posted here.

EI, my thoughts on Facebook is that it can be used as both a tool for good or for bad. To think its inventor is an atheist, and yet we can use it to share the Gospel. I get to witness by posting articles to all my old friends whom I never got to convince for Christ, and after the Rapture have a "left behind" message ready for them. The Christ in Prophecy Facebook group has been an equally wonderful group of people like you all are to rejoice in the Lord with. BTW, Son of Thunder and Junbuggg are the moderators.

Heard Europe will have the worst winter in history, and it may have to do with the dissolvents we used on the gulf oil spill affecting the Gulf Stream Current. Sorry! :/

  • Nathan it probably has nothing to do with the gulf oil spill. The Global Climate Change people just needed an excuse.

I'd love to read Dr Reagan's paper. They're a sensitive bunch these guys. They promote their theories about how the Roman AC people are so wrong but don't like to receive the neg feedback. Tuff.

Please don't think I was criticising your use of ‘Facebook’, its tremendous how believers are making good use of it.

I am not confident with the net; if I mess up, I am unable to put things right. I have to rely on a friend to help me and I don't want to be a bother.

It is the world's use of ‘Facebook’ that makes my hubby cross, he doesn't understand anything to do with computers, and it worries him I may get over involved and it affects my health. I cannot reassure him, so it is probably as well that I am too nervous to try.

Otherwise I say 'Praise The Lord’ to what you are achieving. I am so glad to hear Son of Thunder and Junbuggg are well and still around.

God bless all your efforts for The Lord.
