Forgotten Promises of Christmas: Eternal Kingdom

As promised in Luke 1:26-33, is Christ’s eternal kingdom today on earth?

This question was posed by Dr. David Reagan to his Christmas special panel of guest Bible prophecy teachers: Don McGee of Crown and Sickle Ministries, Dennis Pollock of Spirit of Grace Ministries, and Don Perkins of According to Prophecy Ministries.

“Now in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a city in Galilee called Nazareth, to a virgin engaged to a man whose name was Joseph of the descendants of David. And the virgin’s name was Mary. And coming in, he said to her, hail, favored one, the Lord is with you. But she was greatly troubled at this statement and kept pondering what kind of salutation this might be. And the angel said to her, Do not be afraid, Mary for you have found favor with God. And behold, you will conceive in your womb, and bear a son, and you shall name him Jesus. He will be great, and He will be called the Son of the Most High; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David; and He will reign over the house of Jacob forever; and His kingdom will have no end.” – Luke 1:26-33

Dr. Reagan: What about this third seemingly unfulfilled prophecy, that there would be no end to His kingdom? This seems to me to raise a major problem for those who say this is talking about the Church, because I believe the Bible teaches the Church Age is going to come to an end. And yet, this says there will be no end to His kingdom.

Don McGee: The Church Age is going to come to an end because the Church is not in and of itself going to win this entire world to Jesus Christ. Now, when you go to Daniel, the “small stone cut out without hands that fills the whole earth” is the kingdom that He’s talking about right here.

Don Perkins: That’s right. Yes.

Dr. Reagan: The Church Age is coming to an end when the Rapture occurs.

Don Perkins/Don McGee: That’s right!

Dr. Reagan: We’re going to be taken out of here, and the kingdom that’s going to fill the whole world is the one when Jesus Christ comes back to reign.

Don McGee: Yes, Jesus is going to smash all other kingdoms and He will then be reigning supreme.

Dr. Reagan: But, isn’t He supposed to be reigning now?

Don McGee: If He’s reigning now, we’re in bad shape.

Dr. Reagan: And, Christ’s doing a very bad job of it, because it says that when He reigns none of the nations will be in revolt.

Don McGee: Well, if we’re supposed to reign with Him, what am I supposed to be doing now? I don’t see me reigning anywhere. It’s tough enough reigning in my own home!

In the next segment of this “Forgotten Promises of Christmas” series, we’ll look at how the Amillennial view sees the millennial promises made in Luke 1:26-33.

  • Reigning? Nope but is sure is snowing! 🙁

This is the problem with those who say they are building the kingdom of God on earth! Can't be, the New Covenant wasn't made with the Church but with Israel.
The Church is right now experiencing the spiritual blessings of the Kingdom, like Salvation. It is Israel's birthright to a physical land, not the Church's.

God's promises to Israel will ALL be fulfilled during the 1000 yr Messianic rule of Jesus on planet earth. Meanwhile the Church's citizenship is in heaven, not earth.

God bless you Billy and everyone!
    MARANATHA!

  • If they're building the kingdom of God they're doing a lousy job. And what, it's been like two thousand years. But who's counting?

    God bless one and all.

PS Haven't seen hartdawg about for some time.

  • hello rg(and everyone!)i am in alaska for xmas.i have not dissappeared or anything. i dont own a computer so all my internet access is done on my phone and they "improved"my sevice so leaving comments on some sites is far more difficult. i can leave them on prophecyupdate.blogspot.com very easily but this site is a little more difficult tho possible. plus i been doing the teaching at my weekly bible study and am doing a series on prophecy. im also writing a comprehensive paper covering almost every aspect of prophecy (tho not in great detail) have 80 pages hand-written so far and still have a ways to go. thats what i been busy with. glad you thought of me rg.God bless you.

  • So, I.E.–

The new covenant is not for the church? What about the new covenant that Christ instigated at the last supper? Is that not for the church?

(Pssst: The new covenant is for EVERYONE for there is neither Jew nor Gentile, male nor female, but we are all ONE in Christ!)

Heb. 9:15 "For this reason Christ is the mediator of a new covenant, that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance—now that he has died as a ransom to set them free from the sins committed under the first covenant."

  • Hartdawg, I pray that God grants you wisdom and insight as you write. God bless and have a great Christmas.

Laura, I believe you may have misread EI.

    rg

  • Hi Laura

Hopefully it is as rg has said, you have misunderstood me?

    Briefly.
The New Covenant was made with Israel long before the Church came into existence. Jeremiah 31. The shed blood of Jesus ratified the New Covenant.

Spiritually we are NOW seated in heavenly places. We are receiving the spiritual blessings meant for the nation of Israel, as the One New Man right now which consists of both repentant Jews and believing Gentiles. This is something the Jews cannot grasp because Israel’s rejection of Messiah opened the Gospel to the gentiles as well. This is what Paul’s ministry was based on. The Church does not have any land or kingdom on earth. The Apostate church such as Emergent ARE trying to build God’s kingdom on earth.

The PHYSICAL blessings of the New Covenant will be realised by saved Israel during the Millennium. Messiah will reign over ALL the new nations of the world, with the Jew/Gentile Church His bride (then in glorified bodies) from Jerusalem. PHYSICAL Israel under the personal rule of the resurrected King David, will receive all the promises given to Israel in the O.T. including the Promised Land from the River Euphrates to the River of Egypt.

It’s such a busy time; I hope this will do until after Christmas. Better still, after the Rapture.

    God bless you.

    Sue
