The Trigger Point

PDF

In 2003 a book of mine was published that was titled America the Beautiful? The United States in Bible Prophecy. It has since been re-published in two subsequent editions, one in 2006 and the latest in 2009.

I began the book by writing about how God deals with nations. I showed from Scripture a series of seven principles that govern how God relates to a nation. I pointed out that when a nation begins to rebel against God, He will send prophets to call the people to repentance, and if they ignore the prophets, He will then send remedial judgments. If the people persist in their rebellion there will come a “trigger point” when God will deliver the nation from judgment to destruction.

The trigger point is revealed in the book of Nahum.

The prophet Nahum came on the scene 150 years after Jonah. Like Jonah, he was called of God to preach to Nineveh. But, unlike Jonah, he was not sent to call the people to repentance. Rather, he was told to inform them that the time had arrived for their destruction. This warning was in accordance with God’s character, for He never pours out His wrath without warning.

In Nahum 1:11 God reveals the reason for His unalterable decision to destroy the city and its empire: “From you has gone forth one who plotted evil against the Lord, a wicked counselor.” Thus, the trigger point of God’s wrath is when neglect or rejection of Him turns to war against Him. In response, God declared, “Your wound is incurable” (Nahum 3:19). In short, their fate was sealed.

A contemporary of Nahum’s, the prophet Jeremiah, spoke of the same principle regarding God’s relationship to Judah. He proclaimed that the nation’s wound was “incurable” (Jeremiah 30:12). He added, “There is no one to plead your cause, no healing for your sore, no recovery for you” (Jeremiah 30:13).

The Point of No Return

One chilling point is that the Bible teaches that when a nation reaches this point of no return — this point where “the wound becomes incurable” — prayer is no longer of any avail. Thus, Jeremiah was told by God that he was not to pray for the deliverance of Judah! “Do not pray for this people, and do not lift up a cry or prayer for them, and do not intercede with Me; for I do not hear you” (Jeremiah 7:16). Later, God made this same point again in even stronger terms: “Even though Moses and Samuel were to stand before Me, My heart would not be with this people; send them away from My presence and let them go!” (Jeremiah 15:1).

Ezekiel was told the same thing when he tried to pray for Judah, but in even stronger terms. God named three of the most righteous men who had ever lived — Job, Noah, and Daniel — and He told Ezekiel that even their prayers could not deliver the nation from His wrath (Ezekiel 14:12-21). “I have set My face against them,” the Lord concluded (Ezekiel 15:7).

God is patient and longsuffering. But He cannot be mocked. “Whatever you devise against the Lord, He will make a complete end of it” (Nahum 1:9). God will ultimately deal with the sin of every nation. “The Lord is slow to anger and great in power, and the Lord will by no means leave the guilty unpunished” (Nahum 1:3). Some nations will be destroyed before the Great Tribulation begins, but all nations will taste God’s wrath during that terrible period of international judgment.

I believe the trigger point for our nation occurred in November 2012 when President Obama was re-elected. We have ignored the prophets and the remedial judgments. God has responded by giving us the kind of leader we deserve. We are now positioned to be delivered from judgment to destruction.

  • I am afraid that we all felt this in the last election. The people chose a leader in spite of his ungodly agenda. We are seeing this accelerated in the military with increasing opposition to the Christian gospel and an agenda that will surely result in the increase of AIDS.
Attacks on anyone who would give Biblical counsel in regard to morality, and a blind eye to the horrors of abortion. God help us to stand firm and faithful through what is ahead.

  • I agree with this assessment. I also was practically grieving in my heart from the election results. But, even though I agree, I have a question. who are the prophets that were ignored in this situation? I mean specifically, are we talking Billy Graham and other evangelists of his stature? Or do we just mean the prophets in a general term for all Christians that have been warning about America's sins? Sincere question here, since we don't actually have any prophets nowadays…that I know of.

  • I believe that Johnathan Cahn is one of the prophets akin to the OT prophets. He is definitely sounding the alarm, and almost no one has not heard it. He even gave the message at the Presidential Inaugural Prayer Breakfast, and it was heard by many influential leaders in the gates.

  • Scott, if you click the pdf button, the fully Lamplighter magazine will open. Dr. Reagan has a list in there about those he considers prophetic voices in our day. Not real prophets of old, of course, but those who call warning based on biblical teachings.

  • While I don't disagree with Dr. Reagan that Obama (if not THE, then absolutely AN antichrist) may be the trigger I don't see his re-election as the trigger.

If I remember correctly, when God is through with a nation, he lets sexual immorality run rampant, mainly homosexuality.

I see Obama (the first gay president as put by Newsweek) with his complete support of not only homos, but also the rest of that sick stuff…the transgender, bisexual, etc., as having pulled back the hammer on the gun.

The question for me is will the Supreme Court pull the trigger and let Obama's hammer fire the final bullet into the heart of America.

If they do then there is NO question that God has abandoned America forever.

And we can't forget Obama hates Israel and has put in place all his Israel hating comrades in power.

  • The question now is: Now What do WE do? Those that follow Lamb and Lion most likely didn't vote for Obama, yet we will still have to suffer the consequences of living in a godless nation. Do we emmigrate? If so where (I know some Messianic Christians that moved to Costa Rica and preach over the internet through there)? Do we go survivalist? Do we get our churches to make catastrophe plans? Do we just pray every day for the rapture though many other kinds of tribulations could befall us? What say you?

  • Pray every day for rapture!!!

If God has truly reached the last straw and camel's back has broken then what is the point of the delay of the rapture?

It's going to happen so why not this evening, tomorrow or this weeken?

If things are this bleak it has to be upon us. So pray for it to come quickly.

  • Billy, I respect what you are saying but I'm sure there were some rapture, Bible believing Christians living in New Jersey this past winter when Hurricane Sandy hit. It probably washed their homes and jobs away too. Yes we hope in the rapture yet we also have to plan for the practical, too. God doesn't promise us that troubles won't befall us.

  • I believe the encouragement from Paul in I Corinthians 7:20-24 is to serve the Lord where you are. Do not seek a change unless the Lord leads you, and trust Him to use you for His glory no matter what happens. The hope of the rapture should not keep us from being faithful to the duty that lies nearest. Providing for our families in prudent ways is of course our duty. But running for the mountains with a stash of weapons does not indicate trust in the One who has promised to supply our needs. Homes and jobs may be lost, but He will be right there with us to guide for the next step. Trust, trust, trust in Him – this is what God honors most.

  • Excellent question, George, and response, Charlotte!

As Christians we are indeed called to share the Gospel (Matt. 28:19-20; Acts 1:8), leading hearts and lives to Jesus Christ. But, we are also called by Jesus in Matthew 5:13-18 to be "salt and light" in the world, showing by our loving example what Jesus stands for. As Hebrews 13:16 states, "And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased."

  • Are you a Christian? Don't you wonder just how many Christians voted for Obama in both elections? I know of several people in my church who openly voice praise for him. They cannot even acknowledge that he is a Muslim. It just may be that Christian America is in for some judgment while we await the rapture.

  • Dr Regan; I was reading 1Sam 8 on Jan 19,2009 when P Obama was inaugurated (AFTER witches had swept the Jefferson Memorial-I almost vomited) and realized that like Israel, America had gotten the 'king' they thought they wanted and had rejected God. I realized we would never get him and his group out of the WH again and so was not surprised when America confirmed its king and rejection of God in Nov 2012. It has been clear to me that America under judgment from God since He has been rejected as our God this nation-I have not prayed for revival in this land since Nov 2008 for I have believed it too
late. God help us. Sue in WI

  • I agree that in 2012 Obama, who is in league with the devil, was put back in office BUT!!! I firmly believe he WAS NOT VOTED in really…He was put in by DEAD people,,, and people voting numerous times.. I also believe that in 2014. EVIL will take over the senate and congress… the same way they got Obama into office in the first place.. HE NEVER WON THE VOTES.. no one can ever tell me anything different. In fact, he never really won in the first election. So what can we Christans do against cheating to beat.. We are now in the same condition as other nations who vote but are overridden by corrupt leaders. different..Thanks Marie

  • What worries me is how much longer are the Christians in America going to be allowed to express an opinion, like on this blog, or in Prophecy Update? I always thought Obama was the anti-Christ from the moment he appeared on the international stage, so nothing he does surprises me. The sooner the rapture takes place the better. I cannot imagine man becoming more evil than he is now. Come Lord Jesus come, Maranatha, come Lord Quickly. Amen.

  • I prayed 2 Chronicles 7:14 for 40 days last year leading up to the election (along with millions of other believers) and when Obama won a second term, I knew in my spiritual heart that God was done with us a nation. Thanks, Dave, for posting Scriptures that affirm this. It’s very reminiscent, to me of when Noah warned for 120 years of coming destruction, yet was mocked and ridiculed, and then the rains came and God shut the door of the Ark with his family safely inside. This is when we are in America: God is poised to deliver His wrath. Only the satanically blind or deluded (i.e., the Left) could observe the floods, fires, earthquakes, disease, shootings, failing economy, rampant homosexuality, continued murder of unborn and live babies and believe our best days are still ahead. But even though God is through with us a nation, He still cares and desires to save individuals. And I, as a Christian writer, will continue to spread the Gospel through my books until free speech is outlawed (which we know is forthcoming). May Yeshua fill all my brothers and sisters in Christ with the peace only He can give. Shalom!

  • 2 Timothy 3:1 This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. [2] For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, [3] Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, [4] Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; [5] Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.

Galatians 5:19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are [these]; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, 20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, 21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told [you] in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God. 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, 23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. 24 And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. 25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.

Babylon is defiant in depravity, sin that used to be hidden now strutting down Main Street,

Revelation 18:7 How much she hath glorified herself, and lived deliciously, so much torment and sorrow give her: for she saith in her heart, I sit a queen, and am no widow, and shall see no sorrow.

The results of Godless arrogance and pride, disobedience to the Lord?

Revelation 18:8 Therefore shall her plagues come in one day, death, and mourning, and famine; and she shall be utterly burned with fire: for strong is the Lord God who judgeth her. [9] And the kings of the earth, who have committed fornication and lived deliciously with her, shall bewail her, and lament for her, when they shall see the smoke of her burning, [10] Standing afar off for the fear of her torment, saying, Alas, alas, that great city Babylon, that mighty city! for in one hour is thy judgment come. [11] And the merchants of the earth shall weep and mourn over her; for no man buyeth their merchandise any more.

Regarding all the debate over who Babylon is here in Revelation and in the Old Testament prophecies of Isaiah and Jeremiah: what difference does it make? God does not change. If the shoes of sin fit, a nation wears them, is walking in them, that nation will be judged, simple as that, God not mocked. We are coming to the place in our nation and in the world where the times are undeniably reaching as in the days of Noah. It should be sobering, what a minister once said, that, if God will allow our nation to glorify such as "gay marriage," in defiance of God's covenant, He would surely need to apologize to Sodom and Gomorrah, who didn't even have the gospel!

Lastly, those who have the gospel and are offensive to the Lord, what does scripture say? Luke 12:47 And that servant, which knew his lord's will, and prepared not himself, neither did according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes.[48] But he that knew not, and did commit things worthy of stripes, shall be beaten with few stripes. For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required: and to whom men have committed much, of him they will ask the more.

Where is American going to stand in its deepening forsaking of and rebellion against the Lord, having been a "golden cup in the LORD's hand?"

This is a most serious matter to consider, should be "preaching to the choir" to anybody who knows scripture, where we are at and where we seem hell-bent on heading.
In my life, I've not seen such a dramatic slide into a moral abyss as is happening before our eyes in these days.

  • George,

I appreciate your reply but I'm not referring to escaping accidents, natural disasters or other normal life problems.

I'm talking about escaping a completely evil filled world, one like the days of Noah, Sodom and Gemehorrah, etc. I'm talking about the TRIBULATION that is nearly upon us.

    Thanks.

  • I also don't have a stash of weapons or ammo. Being in earthquake country I do have food and water supplies.

The hope of the Rapture means you don't need to stock up on anything but faith.

  • When Obama was first elected the Lord revealed to me in prayer, that he was shaking hands and making agreements with those from other lands. That they were not good for us (America) and that he would betray us. Our country then was handed over in judgment. To a foreigner and even a Muslim. We just expected judgment to come as in the days of old. Our nation IS doomed as a whole but God's mercy and grace is far more reaching on those who repent. Obama is a forerunner like John the Baptist was for Jesus. He is Satan's pawn in the grand scheme of God's judgment. May we talk less and pray HARDER!!!

  • Hi Bill,

Good point about stashing up on faith. Yet I don't think it is faithless to have some practical preparation. If we are indeed closing in on the tribulation and God's judgment then the birth pangs (those natural world disasters) will be forthcoming. Yes, I believe in the rapture but I also know I'm not spared suffering in this world and that a birth pang can overtake us before the rapture comes. What good am I to my neighbor if I'm unprepared and a needy beggar. Perhaps I can be more fruitful if I can help others after a disaster and play a significant role in my community by being able to give support.

    Christ be with you.

  • A couple days before the election during my devotions the Lord impressed on me Obama was going to win and that's because this country is like a man with a reprobate mind. Since the election we've seen an increase in II Thessalonians 2:3 coming to past especially in pastors.
God has given me a strong sense of urgency to reach the lost. We may not have days left before the church is removed.

  • George,

No objection to being prepared. But I'm not preparing to fight. Just survive if necessary, if possible.

I'd rather be made hopeful and encourage by the promise of the Rapture, so that I can escape the wrath that the world will experience.

We may, no, we ARE suffering NOW the beginnings of the coming end times. No doubt. But we WILL escape ALL WRATH. No pressure to accept the mark of the beast or worship him, no stings from the things that will attack people on Earth, no seeing water turn to blood, etc. None of THAT is meant for us nor will we be here when it happens.

  • Please note that the tribulation, plagues, etc. all come before God's final wrath is poured out upon the earth. The Bible doesn't promise that we won't have to endure these tribulations, only God's final wrath, which comes at the end of the "seven weeks." If Jesus' apostles were not spared suffering and torment why do we suppose we are so special that we will not become martyrs, as well?

  • Anonymous, who opens the seven seals from the very first Seal Judgment? Jesus, right. Where do the angels receive the seven Trumpet Judgments? Before the throne of God. Where do the seven Bowl Judgments come forth from? The heavenly Temple where God dwells. In each case, every one of the 21 Tribulation judgments come from God Himself, and therefore all of the Tribulation is God's wrath, not just the last few years.
