The Mighty Angels of Revelation 16 Avenge

MP3: The Mighty Angels of Revelation 15-16
Hosts: Nathan Jones & Vic Batista

The Third Bowl Judgment Angel

Nathan Jones: Revelation 16:4-7 reveals the continuing horror that is the Third Bowl Judgment:

“Then the third angel poured out his bowl on the rivers and springs of water, and they became blood. And I heard the angel of the waters saying: ‘You are righteous, O Lord, the One who is and who was and who is to be, because You have judged these things. For they have shed the blood of saints and prophets, and You have given them blood to drink. For it is their just due.’ And I heard another from the altar saying, ‘Even so, Lord God Almighty, true and righteous are Your judgments.'”

Vic Batista: We see again in Revelation 16 the payday has arrived. Verse 6 tells us, “For they have shed the blood of saints and prophets.” I’m reminded of the Reformation and how people forget that so many people were martyred for their faith when the Reformers separated from the Catholic Church.

Nathan Jones: Yes, the Catholic Church by that point in Church history had totally divorced itself from foundational biblical teachings. They were selling indulgences, meaning paying down people’s sentences in Purgatory, and Martin Luther was like, “Hey, wait a minute, you can’t buy your way into Heaven!” So, he nailed the 95 Theses on the Wittenberg church door.

Then Luther went and translated the Bible from Latin into German, a language that people understood, for only the priests understood Latin. All of the sudden people were reading the Bible for themselves and learned the truth of God’s Word. They realized that the Catholic Church was totally off course doctrinally. The Catholic Church had gotten salvation totally wrong with its works-based requirements and priestly intercession.

The response from the Catholic Church was to crack down on the Reformers. The Jesuits, which Pope Francis today is one of them, cracked down on those who became part of the Reformation. These reformers became known as Protestants and the Jesuits just slaughtered the Protestants. The Spanish Inquisition played a huge role in the crackdown that punished and killed all those who declared that the Bible was the source of the Word of God and not the Catholic Church as the authority on the Word of God.

Likewise in Revelation 16, we have happening during the Tribulation a tremendous martyrdom of those who have accepted Jesus as Savior. And God is mad at their persecutors. These Bowl Judgments, even though they affect the whole world, shows that God is raging mad at those who have continually rejected Him and have taken the Mark of the Beast. The Antichrist’s followers are killing the Tribulation Saints, meaning those who have accepted Jesus as Savior during those seven years.

So, like we saw in the Second Bowl Judgment where God turned the oceans into blood, He will next turn the freshwater into blood. What happens when people have nothing to drink?

Vic Batista: A person can only last a few days, maybe three or four, before they eventually die of dehydration. Without life-giving water, a person’s body will not be able to function.

Nathan Jones: Some speculations have been made as to where people will get something to drink. Maybe they are getting water from whatever food stores they have. Maybe they are drinking from fruits or bottled soda. We don’t know. But, somehow humanity keeps on going, for after a few days nobody would be left alive.

All the freshwater — the lakes, the streams, the creeks, the rivers — are all blood, so there’s nothing to drink. And, this judgment also kills all the freshwater animals. God through the Second Bowl Judgment kills the entire oceanic population, and now the freshwater population will all be dead as well. Picture the waters clogged with dead fish. It’s like when the salmon run upstream in Alaska. By the time they reach the source of the streams, the salmon are dead all over the riverbanks. Their carcasses clog up the streams. Picture the lakes clogged with dead fish and animals, and there being nothing to drink. This is a direct punishment against those who have rejected God and killed His people.

The Water Angel and the Altar Angel

I want to note that there are actually three angels we are reading about in the Third Bowl Judgment. First, there’s the Third Bowl Judgment Angel pouring out his bowl of God’s wrath upon the world.

Second, there’s the Water Angel. God has angels in charge of the wind and the waters. He is the one who says, “You are righteous, O Lord, the One who is and who was and who is to be, because You have judged these things. For they have shed the blood of saints and prophets, and You have given them blood to drink. For it is their just due.”

Third, there is the Altar Angel who declares, “Even so, Lord God Almighty, true and righteous are Your judgments.” God in punishing the earth is acting in righteousness against the people’s evil deeds.

Vic Batista: The Water Angel takes me back to Revelation 7 where we saw angels controlling the wind in the four quadrants of the earth.

Nathan Jones: Yes, the angels serve the Lord as messengers, but they also run the natural workings of the planet. How fascinating when you study verse-by-verse through the Bible, interesting revelations like this just come alive.

Vic Batista: And it teaches us how vital it is to start a relationship with Jesus right now.

Nathan Jones: John 3:16 tells us the scope of God’s love for us. “For God so loved the world that He gave His one only Son, and whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.” For someone to be saved and start that relationship with Jesus Christ, all they have to do is accept Jesus as the Son of God and Savior and ask for forgiveness of their sins. They should pray from their heart, “Dear, Jesus, please forgive me of my sins, and be my Savior.” Jesus promises to forgive them of their sins, remove the guilt, and give them a hope for the future and eternal life with our Heavenly Father.

Vic Batista: God is a just God. Revelation 16 foretells mankind’s payday. God has not forgotten all those who have lost their lives because they trusted in Him. God is going to be just. These evildoers have shed the blood of the Saints and the prophets, and so He will given them blood to drink, for it is their just due. Many of the prophets in the Bible lost their lives for proclaiming the message of the Lord, and now their deaths will be avenged.

Nathan Jones: God’s prophets were sawed in two, they were beheaded, and they were stabbed. The prophets were the very messengers of God, and yet the people often violently rejected God’s messages. This same behavior will happen again during the Tribulation. The messengers of God will be out there calling the people to repentance, yet the people will continue to reject and kill those not specifically sealed, such as the 144,000 Jewish evangelists.

In the thirty-ninth segment of our series “The Mighty Angels of Revelation,” the fourth of the Seven Bowl Judgment Angels of Revelation 16 will pour out God’s wrath upon the sun.

    • Great Britain exiting the EU shows the brittleness of the feet of Nebuchadnezzar’s statue in Daniel 2 symbolizing the final world empire which the Antichrist will arise. The EU could also show its strength and reform in 10 regions, or the earth will reorganize into 10 regions. Either form, we’re still waiting on the 10 toes/kings to be established, and the UK may or may not play into this formation.

Frank Ebell: Or maybe they will get their drinking water from the TWO THIRDS that still remain and have NOT been turned into blood or wormwood! My bible (KJV) says a THIRD part of the waters and creatures were destroyed…not all. “Revelation 8:8-11 And the second angel sounded, and as it were a great mountain burning with fire was cast into the sea: and the third part of the sea became blood; And the third part of the creatures which were in the sea, and had life, died; and the third part of the ships were destroyed. And the third angel sounded, and there fell a great star from heaven, burning as it were a lamp, and it fell upon the third part of the rivers, and upon the fountains of waters; And the name of the star is called Wormwood: and the third part of the waters became wormwood; and many men died of the waters, because they were made bitter.”

    • Frank, you’re reading from the Trumpet Judgments. This article is about the Bowl Judgment. I interpret the Bowl Judgments as separate and distinct from the Seal and Trumpet Judgments.
