The Mighty Angels of Revelation 16 Dry Up a River

MP3: The Mighty Angels of Revelation 16
Hosts: Nathan Jones & Vic Batista

The Sixth Bowl Judgment Angel

Nathan Jones: There are seven Bowl Judgment Angels in Revelation 16 and so far we have covered five. Now we’ve gotten to the Sixth Bowl Judgment Angel in verses 12-16.

“Then the sixth angel poured out his bowl on the great river Euphrates, and its water was dried up, so that the way of the kings from the east might be prepared. And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs coming out of the mouth of the dragon, out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet. For they are spirits of demons, performing signs, which go out to the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty. ‘Behold, I am coming as a thief. Blessed is he who watches, and keeps his garments, lest he walk naked and they see his shame.’ And they gathered them together to the place called in Hebrew, Armageddon.”

Vic Batista: There is a lot to this passage, so much so that we could spend weeks looking at this. What stands out most to me about this passage is how it highlights the spiritual warfare that humanity faces. In Ephesians 6 the Bible clearly tells us that we don’t wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the spirits and principalities of this fallen world.

Nathan Jones: Exactly, there is a satanic spiritual kingdom that looms behind all the evil deeds that go on behind human government. There is a war between God’s forces and Satan’s forces over dominion of this earth. In Revelation 16 with this Sixth Bowl Judgment, we are seeing the veil that keeps our eyes blinded from what goes on in the spiritual world being pulled back. We are actually witnessing in this passage demons who are sent out to gather the armies of the world and prepare them for the final battle — Armageddon.

Vic Batista: Verse 12 mentioned the Euphrates River. There are a lot of references in the Bible about the Euphrates River. It says here that somehow it is going to be dried up by the Sixth Bowl Judgment Angel.

Nathan Jones: Earlier, back in Revelation 9, the Sixth Trumpet Judgment angel let loose four demonic generals and their 200-million strong demonic hordes that had long been bound in the Euphrates River. They’ll kill an amazing third of mankind! The four particular demonic horsemen blast fire and smoke and brimstone which comes out of their mouths. This is crazy wild imagery! The four demonic monster-type creatures ravish the earth’s population.

Years later, at the Sixth Bowl Judgment, the Euphrates River is mentioned yet again. This time the Euphrates River, which runs through Iraq, is dried up in order to prepare for the Kings of the East to cross. Up to this point in the Tribulation, the Antichrist has the world divided into ten regions, or ten kingdoms. The kings and their sub-kings, such as the rulers of India, China, and Japan and the other Asian nations, become tired of the Antichrist’s inept ruling. The planet has become so messed up under the Antichrist’s reign, so these kings try to overthrow him. The Kings of the East put an army together and they start marching towards Israel in order to meet the Antichrist who, as we read about in Daniel 11, is already waring against the rebellious King of the South. The King of the South will probably be whoever is king over Africa. While the Antichrist fights the King of the South, he worries because he hears the Kings of the East are also marching to rebel, so he redirects his army north and into Israel to meet the Kings of the East who are already on the march.

As the Antichrist’s kingdom starts falling apart, he has to deal with these rebellious kings and their armies. They all meet up in the Valley of Jezreel, which we know as Armageddon in the Bible. The valley starts in northern Israel and it runs from Mount Carmel down to Jerusalem. Jezreel is a huge valley! As a matter of fact, Napoleon Bonaparte said that you could field all the armies of the world there in one mighty battle. He was absolutely right, because this global battle is what we are about to read and actually happens in the Revelation narrative.

Vic Batista: As the Bowl Judgments are released, demonic spiritual warfare grows more and more intense as the Tribulation nears it’s climactic end.

While some people reading Revelation may think that this story is totally unbelievable, we can assure them that this all is actually going to happen. We know that it is going to happen because it’s in God’s word. The only spiritual protection that anyone can have is in the saving hands of Jesus Christ.

Nathan Jones: Even today we must not commit the crime that the people of the Tribulation will be committing, and that is refusing to repent of our sins and turn to Jesus as our Savior. We all need to surrender our lives to Jesus Christ. We need to surrender our old messed up lives and get a brand new, eternal life. Life will become forever better because Jesus has forgiven us of our sins. We can then stand before the Father covered by a “not guilty” verdict. The guilt we feel from our sins will be gone and we can now embrace a new life and the hope of eternal life with our Savior.

A clear understanding of humanity’s need for a Savior is one of the reasons why a blessing is promised in Revelation. Revelation 1:3 actually gives a blessing from God for reading the book of Revelation!

Think about how many people today are claiming that God is distant and not involved in world affairs anymore. They accuse God of letting murderers and abusers and rapists go free. Well, Revelation states otherwise! God will finally release His 21 judgments upon the earth during the seven-year Tribulation. Each of the judgments are for the purpose of punishing evil, but also to bring people to and end of themselves so that they’ll know Jesus Christ as their Savior. God will certainly not let evil go unchecked nor unpunished.

In the forty-second segment of our series “The Mighty Angels of Revelation,” the sixth of the Seven Bowl Judgment Angels reveals three very creepy frog-like demons.
