The Mighty Angels of Daniel 12: Seal the Book

MP3: The Mighty Angels of Daniel 12 Continued
Hosts: Nathan Jones & Vic Batista

Knowledge and Transportation

Vic Batista: We are continuing on with our study of Daniel 12, particularly concerning what God’s mighty messenger angel revealed about the future of knowledge and travel.

In previous segments, we discussed the angel’s command to the old prophet in Daniel 12:4. “But you, Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book until the time of the end; many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall increase.” The angel revealed to Daniel an exponential increase in knowledge and amazing new opportunities for travel will signify the end times.

We Christians want to make the best of each opportunity, and we are so excited about the opportunities that God has given to us in knowledge and transportation that have helped aid the spread of the Gospel. In doing so, let’s recap Daniel 12:1-4 before we continue on with Daniel 12:5-7.

Nathan Jones: Daniel 12 starts with the story of the final battle — Armageddon — which occurs at the end of Tribulation. The entire world under Satan’s Antichrist gather to destroy the remaining Jews in Jerusalem. It’s the horrible time prophesied by Jeremiah (30:7) when “and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation, even to that time” (Dan. 12:1b).

That bleak, chaotic time that’s about to consume the Jews finally receives some hope as God sends His Archangel Michael as the defender of Israel. “At that time Michael shall stand up, the great prince who stands watch over the sons of your people” (Dan. 12:1a). God’s defender of Israel will arrive to protect Israel as much as possible against Satan and his forces, that is until Jesus the Messiah finally returns. When Jesus does finally come back, Satan and the Antichrist and the False Prophet are swiftly defeated. All of the evil ones will be judged and banished to Hades in the Sheep-Goat Judgment (Mat. 25), and King Jesus will set up His Millennial Kingdom and restore the world. Even today we are getting closer to the Kingdom Age.

Seal the Book

Nathan Jones: As one can image, the angel threw a lot of information at Daniel over the last few chapters. As a matter of fact, God’s mighty messenger angel has been going on for three whole chapters telling the Prophet Daniel much of what will happen in Daniel’s near later the far future. Daniel became so excited that he likely wanted to run off to at least tell his buddies — Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. But, no, says the angel in verse 4. “But you, Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book until the time of the end; many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall increase.”

Notice the angel included a time when the prophecies he relayed would finally be understood. Included in verse 4 he reference the time of the end, or end times. That’s a key phrase the Bible uses over and over again when pointing to the end of the Church Age. The angel points to when this increase in knowledge and travel will happen. It will happen at the end of the age, that is, just before Jesus Christ returns. He reveals that two things are going to happen that will make the understanding of this prophecy make more sense. One, knowledge shall increase. In other words, people will learn more, certainly aided by computers, and understand Bible prophecy more as well. And, two, many shall run to and fro. In other words, travel will greatly increase, which has certainly been achieved by cars, trains, and planes.

Vic Batista: Few would disagree that we have lived to witness the prophesied increase in knowledge and travel. We also see more excitement by our understanding of biblical prophecy as the Holy Spirit has been increasingly revealing the meanings of prophecy to the Church. How very exciting to now be able to hold such insights into the Bible, especially when we see all the signs of the times and the terrible events that have been developing all around us in our day. We see many of these Bible prophecies being revealed right before us, especially with the increase of knowledge and travel. But, for Daniel, he didn’t get that benefit.
