MP3: The Mighty Angels of Revelation 7
Hosts: Nathan Jones & Vic Batista
The Four Wind Angels
Vic Batista: One of the areas in Bible study that probably not many people are familiar with is the work of the angelic beings found in the book of Revelation, particularly during the Tribulation time period.
In previous segments, we delved into Revelation chapters 1-6. We were introduced to an angelic being who bade us an invitation to “come and see.” Chapter six then opened with the Four Horseman of the Apocalypse. Nathan, would you be able to recap Revelation 6?
Nathan Jones: The book of Revelation primarily covers the time period called the Tribulation. The Prophet Daniel was told it would last seven years long, consisting of 30-day months. It is a time where God will pour out His wrath upon the earth in 21 different judgments. These judgments will force the people of earth to make a decision for or against Jesus Christ. At the end of the Tribulation, Jesus Christ will return. He defeats Satan and then sets up His thousand-year kingdom. Jesus then holds one final judgment of all those who have rejected Him. Then Revelation ends in the Eternal State. So, Revelation intensely covers a particular seven-year period, but then goes on through the rest of human history and on into eternity.
Revelation to me is one of the most important books of the Bible, after the Gospels that is, because Revelation shows us that Jesus Christ is victorious. By trusting in Jesus as Savior, believers in Christ too will be victorious through Him.
Nathan Jones: #Revelation shows that #JesusChrist is victorious, and therefore Christians! Click To TweetSo far, we read up to Revelation 6. Revelation 6 starts the first of the seven judgments called the Seal Judgments. The 21 judgments are divided into sevens: 7 seals, 7 trumpets, and 7 bowls. They are called seals, trumpets and bowls because each judgment begins with an opening of a seal, or the blowing of a trumpet, or the pouring out of a bowl or vial.
Let’s now start in Revelation 7 with the seven Seal Judgments. Later we’ll cover the seven Trumpets Judgments and then the seven Bowl Judgments.
Vic Batista: Revelation is a very fascinating book! In my own devotions, I cannot move forward more than one chapter at a time because I have to stop and think in order to take in all the information it contains.
Nathan Jones: Yes, it is exciting! Revelation is a fascinating book. It is filled with probably the most terrifying time period after the Flood in all of human history. But, it is also a time of refining as God is trying to get the people of the world to finally take Him seriously and to take salvation seriously. Because, if we don’t take salvation seriously, then we remain under God’s wrath as John 3:36 says, and our death will end us up in Hell. Jesus doesn’t want us to go to Hell. He wants all to be saved, but to be saved, each of us has to accept Jesus as the Son of God and repent of our sins.
It is very important that all people understand Revelation, for it foretells the world as a crucible — a refining fire — used to get those who will during the Tribulation accepted Him as Savior to finally commit and to weed out those who continue to reject Him and send them eventually to the final judgments. This time period all begins with the Seven Seal Judgments.
Vic Batista: And now Revelation 7:1-3.
“After these things I saw four angels standing at the four corners of the earth, holding the four winds of the earth, that the wind should not blow on the earth, on the sea, or on any tree. Then I saw another angel ascending from the east, having the seal of the living God. And he cried with a loud voice to the four angels to whom it was granted to harm the earth and the sea, saying, ‘Do not harm the earth, the sea, or the trees till we have sealed the servants of our God on their foreheads.'”
In Revelation 7, we now have another array of angels, each holding different positions around the earth. My children when they were young asked, “Wow, Dad! So these angels are actually holding back the winds?” Really amazing!
Nathan Jones: Well, we’ve got to get out of our mind what TV cartoons have taught us concerning angels. They are not all white dudes with blonde curly hair and big white wings clad in white robes. As we read through Revelation we see quite a variety of angels looks, not only in appearance and size, but also in powers and abilities. We’ve got everything from the standard angels who are messengers and servants of God, but also ones who are so mighty and powerful that they actually control the weather around the earth!
How crazy that Global Warming enthusiasts believe that mankind affects the weather around the earth. All this talk about Global Warming and Climate Change, but no, Revelation 7 makes it very clear that it is God who controls the weather. If the earth is warming up, and there is very contested “proof” concerning that claim, and it’s the cause of natural disasters, well we know that God is ultimately sovereign and behind it.
Nathan Jones: #Revelation 7 reveals #God controls the weather, not man. #ClimateChange Click To TweetTo think that there are actually four angels whose job it is to control the weather around the earth! Here in Revelation 7, at some point as part of God’s judgment against the earth, they are going to shut down the winds, harming both earth and sea. Rather frightening! What a scary time to have all the winds of the earth die down. That means no more wind power for a time.
In the seventh segment of our series “The Mighty Angels of Revelation,” we’ll look at the Tattoo Angel found in Revelation 7.
Yuck more premill garbage. We know that the Angels pour wrath in Revelation. We were only under the tutelage and and apprenticeship from Angels in the Old creation. Now Paul says that we will judge Angels in the New Creation. Its obvious from Bibical study that this was the judgement of the old World in 70AD. Thankfully this is ALL behind us. Thank you Lord.
Were the angels holding back the wind at the 4 corners of the earth good or bad angels
They Wind Angels serve God as His instruments in controlling the weather.
