The Christ in Prophecy Journal

How I Got My Passion for Prophecy

Greetings in the name of Jesus our Blessed Hope! I’m Dave Reagan, founder of Lamb & Lion Ministries. I also serve as its senior evangelist.

The Lord led me to establish this ministry in 1980 after I had spent 20 years as a professor of international law and politics. The fact that I have been a teacher and preacher of Bible prophecy for almost 40 years is really a miracle of God.

The Gate to Prophecy

You see, I grew up in a church that did not teach Bible prophecy, and although I have been a student of the Bible all my life, the Holy Spirit did not lead me into a study of Bible prophecy until after the Six Day War in 1967. The turning point for me came when I read a news article that said the Israeli military seriously considered conquering the Old City of Jerusalem during the Six Day War by blowing open the Eastern Gate. But, the rabbi who had been present during the discussion said that they would do so over his dead body because the Scriptures say that the Eastern Gate must remain closed until the Messiah returns (Ezekiel 44:1-3, read more about this prophecy).

I had no idea what that rabbi was talking about. So, I got out my concordance and started searching for scripture passages that mentioned a gate. It did not take me long to discover Ezekiel 44 where there is a prophecy that the Eastern Gate would be closed and would remain closed until the Messiah returns. I then discovered Psalm 24 that talks about the opening of the Gate when the Messiah returns in triumph.

I next discovered that the Old City of Jerusalem currently has nine gates and only one of them is bricked up, and that is the Eastern Gate, just as prophesied. That’s when I developed an insatiable appetite for the study of Bible prophecy.

My Study Begins

As I began studying Bible prophecy in earnest, I was astounded over the fact that many ancient prophecies about the end times were being fulfilled before my very eyes.

For example, the most prolific prophecy in the Old Testament is that the Jewish people will be regathered in the end times from the four corners of the world, and we are witnessing that today.

The Hebrew prophets also prophesied that the nation of Israel would be reestablished, that the Hebrew language would be revived, and that the land of Israel would be redeemed from its desolation to become once again like the Garden of Eden. They also prophesied that the Jewish people would once again occupy the city of Jerusalem.

All of those prophecies, and many other very specific ones concerning nature, the church, world politics, and society are all being fulfilled today and are converging, meaning coming together, as never before (read more about the signs of the end times). It’s as if God is shouting from the heavens with signs in neon lights that His Son is returning soon.

God’s Calling Answered

That message began burning in my heart to the point that I felt compelled to proclaim it from the housetops. So, in 1980, I gave up my academic career and stepped out in faith and established Lamb & Lion Ministries. Since that time, this ministry has been passionately sharing the message of the soon return of Jesus Christ at church services and conferences, over the radio, on our internationally broadcast television program called Christ in Prophecy, worldwide over the Internet through our interactive website at www.lamblion.com, and through the production of many teaching materials such as the Lamplighter magazine, books about Bible prophecy, and a great assortment of video programs.

We also support a number of other Bible prophecy ministries and missions in order to help spread the Good News globally.

The Bible clearly says we cannot know the date of the Lord’s return, but it also clearly teaches that we can know the season because of the signs we are given to watch for. Those signs are all around us today, and I am expecting the Lord to break from the heavens at any moment. For that reason, when I get up each morning, I look to the sky and cry out from the depths of my heart, “Maranatha! Come quickly, Lord Jesus!”

I hope you will consider becoming a partner with Lamb & Lion Ministries in our effort to alert the world to the soon return of Jesus. To learn more about our Prophecy Partner Program, just click Donate on our website.

  • The new world order is here but I’m waiting for my lord come back
Ty Jesus my saviour for dying for a wretched like me.m Jesus name bless us who believe

  • God bless you brother. There is no doubt in my mind that you made a choice, and God guided your every move. May He continue to bless your ministry in Jesus name I pray.

  • There are actually only 7 gates leading into the Old City and the eight gate –Golden Gate– is closed.

The Zion Gate: Bearing Jerusalem’s earliest biblical name in Hebrew and English, this gate’s Arabic name is the Gate of the Prophet David, as the Tomb of King David, on adjacent Mount Zion, is only a few steps away. Zion Gate leads directly to the Armenian and Jewish quarters.

The Dung Gate: This gate’s unusual name derives from the refuse dumped here in antiquity, where the prevailing winds would carry odors away. Nehemiah 2:13 mentions a Dung Gate that was probably near this one. This gate leads directly to the Western Wall and the Southern Wall Archaeological Park.

Gate of Mercy: This gate, in the eastern Temple-Mount wall, may be the best-known of them all. Also called the Golden Gate or the Eastern Gate, it has been blocked for centuries, and is said to be awaiting a miraculous opening when the Messiah comes and the dead are resurrected.

Lion’s Gate: This portal is named after a pair of ferocious-looking animal carvings that flank it. They are actually tigers, the heraldic symbol of the 13th-century Sultan Beybars. It is also called St. Stephen’s Gate, after the first Christian martyr, who tradition says was stoned nearby. Lion’s Gate, which leads to the Pools of Bethesda, the Via Dolorosa, and the markets, became famous during the Six Day War.

Herod’s Gate: Despite its name, the notorious Judean king had nothing to do with this gate. In Arabic and Hebrew this north-facing gate, which leads to the Old City markets, is called the Flowers Gate. Some say the name derives from a rosette carved over it. However, in Arabic a similar word means “awakened,” and may refer to a nearby cemetery and the hope of resurrection.

Damascus Gate: This most imposing of Jerusalem’s gateways also faces north and is named for the grand city from which Jerusalem’s rulers once came. It is always a busy thoroughfare, thanks to the bustling markets within. Below the 16th-century gate, archaeologists have uncovered part of the entryway built by Emperor Hadrian in the second century CE.

The New Gate: This is the only Old City entryway not part of the original design of the 16th-century walls. It was breached in the waning days of the Ottoman Empire to allow Christian pilgrims quicker access to their holy places within the ramparts.

The Jaffa Gate: This was the destination of Jewish and Christian pilgrims disembarking at the Jaffa port, hence its name. It led (and still leads) directly to the Jewish and Christian quarters, as well as to the most popular parts of the market, and to the Tower of David Museum, once Jerusalem’s citadel and now a showcase of its history.

    • Don’t forget the ninth gate. Next to the Dung Gate is a new pedestrian gate called Tanners Gate. It’s actually an old medieval gate which was uncovered during excavations in the 1980s.

      • Hi Nathan I am aware of this pedestrian gate— but it is not officially recognized as a gate of entry into the Old City.

Of note also is the fact that 7 (in Hebrew linguistic) is the number of completion or perfection–while 8 is the number of New beginnings.–a prelude to the time when this gate will be opened again and the Messiah will enter through The Golden Gate which faces Mount of Olives

  • I first became acquainted with Bible prophecy from Mark Hitchcock and his books, David Jeremiah, Grant Jeffrey, and Jimmy DeYoung. The more I read, the more I knew that the bible was totally true. It is amazing to see all the events that are prophesied in the bible come to pass, it is such a tremendous reassurance we can believe every word and that we who are in Christ will be saved. Wow, Dr. Reagan has been studying bible prophesy for a long time. We love reading the Lamplighter magazine and other prophecy books from Lamb & Lion. Indeed, there are really no events left to happen, all the signs are here for Christ’s return.

  • I wonder what Dr. Reagan or Nathan Jones feels about how close we are to the One World Government. Seems like the world is out of control and getting worse. Isn’t the antichrist supposed to come after the One World Government is Established? Whats your thoughts?

    • Daniel foretold the rise of the Antichrist would be from the people who destroyed Jerusalem and the Temple, which were the Romans. So, he will arise out of a revived Roman Empire (the European Union), overthrow three of its leaders, and then become the ultimate world leader. His ascension will be post-Rapture, so the Church will not be around to witness his rise.

  • Thanks Nathan, Just look at how Daniel 2:40 talks about mixing Iron with Clay. The Kingdom shall be divided. The government is bringing in all these Syrian refugees and they will not assimilate to our culture. The antichrist will push for diversity, the mixing and assimilation of all races, cultures, and religions. There will be conflict because this is the premeditated herding of diverse groups of people causing them to intermingle. Daniel 2:43 “And whereas thou sawest iron mixed with miry clay, they shall mingle themselves with the Seed of men. The push for diversity destroying our borders, the One World Government just like Hillary Clinton wants.
