The Mighty Angels of Revelation 22 and the Great I Am

MP3: The Mighty Angels of Revelation 22
Hosts: Nathan Jones & Vic Batista

Life Goes On

Vic Batista: Revelation 22:11 states one of the strangest passages in all of the Bible:

“He who is unjust, let him be unjust still; he who is filthy, let him be filthy still; he who is righteous, let him be righteous still; he who is holy, let him be holy still.”

Nathan Jones: Yes, this can be a confusing passage, because it almost appears as if God is commanding us to be evil. That cannot be it! The verse makes more sense when tied properly in context to verse 10, “For the time is at hand.” In other words, the fulfillment of Revelation is going to happen. There are people who are living unjustly and who are living filthy, evil lives. And there are going to be people living righteous lives and desire to be holy. In other words, life goes on. And, when all of Revelation is about to happen, life will still be going on as it always has.

Jesus stated in Matthew 24 that when the end times finally arrive and He returns, that people will be given in marriage and life will go on just like at any other time in history. But, there will be a time when the prophecies that we read about in Revelation will finally come true, and when they do, they will come upon the world rather suddenly.

The world will be living life just like normal, but for those who are righteous and for whom God calls “holy” because they are saved, they will know what to expect. They were made ready because they read Revelation ahead of time.

Vic Batista: For many now life is going on as it always has been, but just as fast as the rains from Noah’s Flood came pouring down, so too will the events of Revelation rapidly unfold. Christians must be the ones who are prepared. Most people will be taken by surprise when the Rapture happens and with the Tribulation which follows, but for those who have taken Bible prophecy to heart, they are always ready for their home-going.

If anyone doesn’t feel ready for Christ’s return, and yet the Holy Spirit is speaking to their heart, they’re being given an opportunity to make a change concerning their eternal life while there’s still time. The time is now in making that right relationship with the Lord!

Nathan Jones: Having that saving relationship with the Lord is based on the understanding that God loves us so much that He was willing to send His own Son — His perfect Son Jesus Christ — to die a torturous death on the cross so that the punishment for our sins would fall on Him. By Jesus being resurrected and coming back to life and beating death, His victory can be our victory as well.

Put your faith and trust in Jesus Christ as the Son of God and as your Savior. Repent of your sins and pray from your heart something like, “Dear, Jesus, please forgive me of my sins and be my Lord and Savior.” Jesus promises to do just that. Your sins will be forgiven. The guilt will be gone. You will have a new life and the eternal hope in Him. You just need to reach out in faith and accept that free gift.

Vic Batista: God indeed has a plan for us. There’s hope regardless of what terrors are happening around the world. God has that perfect plan for our lives, and it’s grounded in a saving relationship with Jesus Christ.

The Great I Am

Vic Batista: The book of Revelation is just so full of blessings! Jesus in Revelation 22:12-13 promises:

“‘And behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to give to every one according to his work. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End, the First and the Last.”

We have reached Jesus’ final message. For those who have a red letter Bible, these two verses will all be colored in red. This is Jesus Himself talking, and not through an angel.

Just like Jesus stated earlier in verse 7, “Behold I am coming quickly.” In verse 12, Jesus says again, “And behold, I am coming quickly.” Jesus will state this again later in verse 20, “Surely I am coming quickly.” Three times in Revelation 22 Jesus says, “I am coming quickly.” This is a bona-fide promise from God that Jesus Christ is coming back. When He does, the whole world will be changed!

Vic Batista: Jesus even stamps His seal on the passage so that people will know that it is God Himself who is speaking. He identifies His full divinity, “I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End.” There is no mistaking Who is promising this. Not only is it in red letters, but it is metaphorically made bold by His declaration right there.

Nathan Jones: Yes, by stating His divinity, Jesus’ promise to return converts his promise into all caps. Jesus is the Alpha and the Omega, which are the first and last letters in the Greek alphabet. Jesus is the beginning and the end of all things. He is the first in existence, and He will be the last in His eternality. God’s stamping His promise. Jesus is defining He is God and can be trusted to fulfill His promise to return.

Vic Batista: Jesus’ claim brings us back to Revelation 1 where He also had stated, “I am the Alpha and Omega, the Beginning and the End.” God has got us covered from beginning to end. He knows everything about us and He is right there besides us, for He is omnipresent and omniscient.

Nathan Jones: Jesus even starts with the claim “I AM.” Remember when Moses was at the burning bush, and he asked Yahweh, “Who shall I say that you are?” And God said “I AM.” In other words, God doesn’t even need a name, for He is Yahweh. He is I AM. He just exists, and so what more do we need to know? Here He is again claiming to be I AM.

Vic Batista: Jesus promised in Hebrews 13:5, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” And, in Matthew 28:18-20, Jesus assures His followers that He will always be with us to the very end of this age, “I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”

That’s a tremendous word of encouragement! We are not alone. God is with us always. God loves us and has an eternal plan and purpose for our lives.

Nathan Jones: And Jesus gave up His own life in order to make that possible.

Vic Batista: Remember that Jesus is coming quickly, and He is coming very soon. Jesus is coming for you, so keep your eyes on Him and trust in His promises. God has wonderful things planned for you.

In the eighty-fourth segment of our series “The Mighty Angels of Revelation,” Jesus explains just who can and cannot enter into the New Jerusalem.
