The Mighty Angels of Daniel 9: The Final Seven

MP3: The Mighty Angels of Daniel 9 Concluded
Hosts: Nathan Jones & Vic Batista

Prophecy to the Day

Vic Batista: We are continuing our study of God’s messages through His mighty angel Gabriel about the future as recorded in the book of Daniel. Particularly, we are covering the prophecy of Daniel’s Seventy Weeks as found in Daniel 9. Key to this chapter is Daniel 9:26-27.

“And after the sixty-two weeks Messiah shall be cut off, but not for Himself; and the people of the prince who is to come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary. The end of it shall be with a flood, and till the end of the war desolations are determined. Then he shall confirm a covenant with many for one week, but in the middle of the week he shall bring an end to sacrifice and offering. And on the wing of abominations shall be one who makes desolate, even until the consummation, which is determined, is poured out on the desolate.”

We calculated the 62 weeks plus 7 more weeks equaling 69 weeks of years, for a total of 483 years. One week, or 7 years, of Daniel’s Seventy Weeks prophecy remains unfulfilled.

Nathan Jones: The Angel Gabriel was sent by God to give Daniel an answer to his question concerning when the Jewish exiles would be going home from their exile in Babylon to return and rebuild Jerusalem. Up to this point in Daniel’s life he had been in exile in Babylon for going on 70 years. Daniel’s fervent prayer was that Jerusalem would be rebuilt once more. After much prayer, supplication and fasting, God sent the Angel Gabriel to Daniel with His answer — a prophetic timeline.

Gabriel confirmed that indeed one day Jerusalem would be rebuilt and the walls reconstructed. The Temple would rise again along with the sacrifices restored. History shows that all these components were built piecemeal over time, starting with Cyrus the Persian’s decree in 539 BC. Later in 445 BC, a Persian king named Artaxerxes would allow for the reconstruction of the defensive walls and the Temple sacrifices under Ezra and Nehemiah. It is from Artaxerxes’ decree that Daniel’s Seventy Weeks prophecy counts down, resulting in 483 years to the day when the Messiah would come as Savior, only to be cut off by execution.

Daniel’s Seventy Weeks prophecy has been calculated by many theologians such as Sir Robert Anderson, Dr. David Reagan, and Dr. John MacArthur. They have all performed different calculations, and pretty much the numbers land on the same time Jesus Christ rode triumphantly into Jerusalem, only to be crucified a week later. How mind blowing that Jesus Christ fulfilled the prophecy exactly to the day, and that the prophecy was given 550 years before Jesus even arrived!

Vic Batista: So true! Quite a number of experts have all calculated the same numbers that lead up to the time period of Jesus Christ, even to the day of His Triumphal Entry on Palm Sunday.

Nathan Jones: Pretty much! Some experts have calculated to the day of Jesus’ crucifixion, while some others the beginning of Jesus’ ministry, some 3.5 years before His death. But either way they calculate it, whether using a 365 day years or 360 day prophetic year, and including in all the leap years and discrepancies in calendars, they all end up at a major milestone in Jesus’ life and ministry. Jesus Christ coming as the Messiah and dying on the cross is a messianic prophecy that has been both carefully calculated and fulfilled 100%.

Vic Batista: That’s why the Bible can be trusted 100%. The Bible truly is the inerrant Word of God. People can believe every bit of it with surety. Always interpret the Bible literally and you will marvel at the accuracy of Bible prophecy. So many people today attempt to label the Bible as a book of fairy tales, but let me tell you, this book is more accurate than the atomic clocks!

Nathan Jones: How true! And for those who try to discredit the book Daniel, like claiming that Daniel was written hundreds of years after the accepted date, well that’s absolute nonsense. The historicity of Daniel has been well proven to have been written over 500 years before Jesus came. The book of Daniel resides among the Dead Sea Scrolls, archaeologically proven to have originated at least 200 years before Jesus was born. No doubt exists that Daniel was written centuries before Jesus arrived.

More so, when looking at the calculations ensconced in Daniel, the numbers lead one right to the major milestones in Jesus’ life. Due to archaeological, historical, and prophetic proof, no doubt should exist in anyone’s mind that the Bible is indeed the Word of God. Therefore, since the Bible resonates with the very words of God, mankind can know for sure how to be saved and reconciled with God, and learn about the one and only way to live with God forever in His home in Heaven.

Vic Batista: How accurate the Bible is! We can put our faith and trust in what it teaches.

The Final Seven

Vic Batista: Daniel 9:26-27 describes a block of time — “Then he shall confirm a covenant with many for one week.” We’ve established that when it comes to Daniel’s Seventy Weeks prophecy, one week equals seven years. Of the 490 prophesied years, the final seven year time period remains future, well past even our time period today.

The “he” of Daniel 9 refers to the Antichrist. This future one-world ruler rises up to eventually dominated over the entire world. This arch-enemy could possibly be alive right now, but who can know because he hasn’t been revealed yet. The Antichrist will be revealed when he pens a seven year covenant with the people of Israel. But, during the middle of the seven years, the Antichrist shall bring an end to sacrifice and offerings.

Nathan Jones: The first 483 years of Daniel’s Seventy Weeks prophecy has been fulfilled by the first advent of the Messiah, but a seven year time period remains. The period that hasn’t been fulfilled is called Daniel’s Seventieth Week, which students of Bible prophecy today call the Tribulation. In that era, God pours out His wrath upon the world for its mounting sins. One can read about the fulfillment of Daniel’s Seventieth week in the book of Revelation. Those final seven years are encompassed in the Tribulation. Therefore, Daniel and Revelation interlock together, complimenting one another. One fills in the gaps in information of the other.

Because 483 years of Daniel’s Seventy Weeks have been fulfilled, and Daniel’s Seventieth Week clearly remains future, we today are living smack in the middle of this prophecy. An interlude exists and it’s called the Church Age. The Church Age was shrouded as a mystery that the Old Testament people didn’t comprehend. The Messiah had been cut off, so Jesus Christ built a spiritual kingdom on this earth where the people, both Jew and Gentile alike, could give their hearts in repentance to Him. But, we remain waiting for the physical Davidic Kingdom to be inaugurated, when Jesus rules and reigns from His throne in Jerusalem.

Nearly 500 verses in the Old Testament and one in every 25 verses in the New Testament promise that Jesus Christ is coming back to set up an earthly kingdom. But first, the world waits for the prophecy of Daniel’s Seventieth Week to play out before the Kingdom will be established.

In the twenty-ninth segment of this series on the mighty angels of Daniel, we’ll ponder the paradox of the missing Third Temple.
