Can Bible prophecy prove that the Bible is God’s Word?

During the last weekend of June each year, Lamb & Lion Ministries conducts a Bible conference in the Dallas, Texas area, with 2010’s themed Defending the Faith.

The second speaker was Mike Gendron, founder of Proclaiming The Gospel Ministries, a ministry established in 1991 to serve and glorify the Lord Jesus Christ by equipping and encouraging Christians to proclaim the Gospel clearly, faithfully and effectively. The ministry also exposes the fatal errors of Roman Catholicism and apostate Christianity, along with other faith movements such as the Emerging Church, Purpose Driven Church and the Church Growth Movement. They also proclaim the soon return of the Lord Jesus Christ and exhort believers to contend earnestly for the faith until that glorious day.

Mike’s topic at our conference was “The Truth of the Bible” (watch). Considered an expert on Christian doctrine, he did a masterful job of defending the Bible as the revealed Word of God.

Uniqueness #10 — Bible Prophecy

The last and maybe the most compelling reason for the Bible being unique is its Bible prophecy. It is prophetic in the sense that over 30% of the Bible actually contains scriptures predicting future events. The Bible contains over 1,800 prophecies that foretell specific details about the Messiah, about Israel, about individual nations and certain cities.

I was up in Michigan doing another conference and went down to South Bend, home of Notre Dame. My wife and I were at a restaurant and a couple of Muslims walked in. Whenever I meet someone for the first time I always want to know two things: 1) are you saved or lost, and 2) are you churched or unchurched? So, I engaged them in a conversation.

As we were waiting on our table I asked the Muslim, “Have you ever contrasted your Koran with the Bible?” He replied, “No, I never have.” I asked, “Does your religion offer a Savior.” He answered, “No.” I asked, “Well, how are your sins forgiven?” He answered, “We just hope that God will forgive us.” I explained, “Let me encourage you of one thing, there is a unique difference between the Bible and the Koran. Did you know that the Bible contains 1,800 prophecies foretelling the future?” He said, “No, I didn’t know that.” I went on, “Yes, it is the only book, the only religious book that dares to do that. Does your Koran do that?” He dejectedly answered, “No.” I asked, “Do you know why?” He answered, “No, I have never though about that.” So, I went ahead and explained, “The reason no other religious books dares to predict the future is because if they were wrong in one prophecy then the book would be discredited as unreliable. This is every reason for you to go to the Bible to read it and believe it because it speaks of a God who knows the end from the beginning. It speaks of a sovereign God.”

You are all familiar with the “I AM” of the burning bush, and so I ask you this question, “Why did God gives us prophecy?” He gives us the answer in Isaiah 43:8-11. The answer is, “So, that you may know and believe me and understand that I AM He. Before me no God was formed nor will there be one after me, I even I AM the Lord and apart from me there is no Savior.”

As prophecy is being fulfilled, it is clear evidence that the Bible was inspired by a sovereign God who controls all things. He is indeed the God of wonders who knows the end from the beginning, and we should pay close attention to what He has revealed.

In the last segment on the “Truth of the Bible,” Mike Gendron gives a passionate plea to defend the Bible as the Word of God.

  • 2Cor.6:14Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?

It’s late, and I’m tired, but I suddenly saw these Scriptures in a new light tonight. I have been on a Posty site; and as always it leaves me feeling sad (for them) and just generally ‘pulled down’. There is no sense of hope, very little faith or joy is expressed and generally an overall dark, oppressive feeling of “abandon hope, all ye who enter here”.

They SAY they have hope and faith, even joy, repeatedly – but it has an extremely hollow sound to it and lacks conviction, because it isn’t expressed in their dull, repetitive assurance that they are worthy to go through the seven years of Tribulation. Doubly worrying is the thought they may be right, as the apostate church DOES go through the horrors. On the whole, I think they are part of the Bride, but oh the melancholy they exude.

Because Posty’s do not believe in the hope of the Pretrib Rapture, and seem unable to take Jesus at His Word, then it is exactly like communing with darkness – it is so depressing being in their lack lustre company. Surely it is far better to ‘come apart’ and let them wallow undisturbed in their chosen destiny.

    Maranatha!
