About Peter Marshall
Peter John Marshall is the son of the famous Scottish minister, Dr. Peter Marshall, who came to this country in 1927. He attended Columbia Theological Seminary in Georgia before entering the ministry. After serving two churches in Georgia, he was invited to become the pastor of the New York Avenue Presbyterian Church in Washington, D.C. in 1937 and was appointed twice as Chaplain of the U.S. Senate, serving from January 1947 until his sudden death just over two years later. He was 46 years old.
Mr. Marshall’s mother, Catherine, became as famous as his father when she wrote a biography of her husband entitled, A Man Called Peter. This book was later made into an Oscar-nominated film of the same title (1955) featuring Richard Todd as Peter Marshall. Mrs. Marshall eventually wrote over 20 books, including many editions of her late husband’s sermons, several inspirational books, and the best-selling novel Christy.
Peter John Marshall emerged from the shadow of his famous parents 32 years ago in 1977 when he published his seminal study of the Christian heritage of our nation, The Light and the Glory, 1492-1793. This book went through 24 printings before a revised and expanded second edition was published in 2009. He has since written two sequels, From Sea to Shining Sea, 1787-1837, and Sounding Forth the Trumpet, 1837-1860.
The headquarters of Mr. Marshall’s ministry is located on Cape Cod in Massachusetts, in the town of Orleans. His website address is petermarshallministries.com.
Peter John Marshall is a graduate of Yale University and Princeton Seminary. He served as a Presbyterian pastor for twelve years before devoting himself in 1977 to a continent-wide ministry of preaching, teaching and writing.
“I strongly recommend Peter Marshall as a speaker. He is one of the most knowledgeable men of our times on America’s Christian and biblical heritage, and has a message from God that people need to hear.” — Bill Bright, late founder of Campus Crusade for Christ International
"Fascinating…" as Spock was wont to say. This could prove quite interesting if the Q&A turns to his eschatology… Unless he's changed his POV on the Church, Israel & America I believe he is quite into Replacement Theology with maybe a little taste of British-Israelism for flavor… "It's all supposed to get better & better so we can present the Kingdom to the King…"
