Twelve Signs of the End Times: Nuclear Weapons and Wars

MP3 PDF

Could the creation and usage of nuclear weapons in wars be signs of the end times?

On Saturday, April 9, 2011, I was interviewed by host Brian Thomas of the Blessings to Israel Ministries Saturday podcast show. During the hour long interview we took a look at twelve major end times signs in an attempt to raise the awareness of people concerning the numerous things going on in the world currently, how they relate to Bible prophecy, and the imminent return of Jesus Christ.

Blessings to Israel Ministries

#5-6) Nuclear Weapons and Wars

Brian Thomas: In Revelation 6:14, referring to what happens during the Tribulation, it reads, “Then the sky receded as a scroll when it is rolled up, and every mountain and island was moved out of its place.” Is this passage referring to nuclear warfare?

Nathan Jones: One of the categories of signs found in Daniel 12:4 is an increase in technology, which would also encompass nuclear technology. It’s amazing to think that people were using horse carts and living in mud homes for hundreds and hundreds of years, and then in the late 1700’s and early 1800’s the world witnessed technology taking off and increasing exponentially. Being a Web guy of course, I have to know the technology behind the Web, and I tell you the technology changes so rapidly and so often that keeping up with it is somewhat of a headache. But, the Bible says that there has to be an increase in technology in the end times as a sign of the time pointing to the Lord’s soon return.

We have witnessed in this modern age amazing breakthroughs in technology that explain some of the end times events we read about in the Bible. We can look in Revelation 11 about the Two Witnesses who during the Tribulation God ordains to witnesse to the world and who will share the Gospel during the Tribulation. In the middle of the Tribulation, the Antichrist will come and kill them, and then three and a half days later the Lord will resurrect them. The Bible says that the whole world will see the Two Witnesses die and come back to life. Back before there was television and satellites and global communication technology like that, there was no way the Two Witnesses could have been viewed by the whole world. So, we need that kind of technology to help explain some of these prophetic statements.

The actual use of nuclear weapons is beyond awful. We can get a small glimpse into their destructive capabilities and the lasting effects of radiation from movies like the Terminator series or The Day After, if you remember those movies from the ’80s. We all know somewhat about how horrible nuclear warfare really is from those movies.

I believe the Bible definitely talks about the use of nuclear weapons. Take a First Century man like the Apostle John who can only explain what he saw in terms he understood, like in saying the sky is receding like a scroll. That happens to be exactly what a nuclear weapon does. The sky looks like it is scrolling up just after the bomb blast.

We can read in Isaiah 17 and Jeremiah 49 the oracle against Damascus, which is the capital city of Syria and is also the oldest city in the world. The Bible says that in one day Damascus will be destroyed by Israel. Well, the only way technologically it could be done today is if Israel is forced to drop a nuclear bomb on Damascus.

We also read in Revelation 8:7 that a third of the world will be terribly burned up by the scorching sun causing terrible burns. The people in Revelation 16 will have loathsome and malignant sores all over them. We are seeing this happening in Japan right now with the nuclear reactors having gone critical and pouring radiation all over those people trying to contain the leaks. They are getting sores all over them as they are dying of radiation poisoning.

The Bible in Revelation 8 and 9 describes a nuclear war during the Tribulation. The Antichrist as he goes out to conquer the world will use nuclear weapons resulting in about a third of mankind, that would be about 1.5 billion of those remaining from the previous wars of the Tribulation, being killed from the nuclear war. This coming nuclear war will devastate the planet.

Many of the Tribulation judgments that we read about after this global war are mostly all effects from nuclear radiation. We read about the disasters from the sky causing the destruction of the seas and the people having sores all over them. As horrible as our worst nightmare might be, they’re nothing compared to the nuclear weapons that will be used at that time and the nuclear holocaust that will befall this planet during the Tribulation.

The next end times sign we’ll look at is the emergence of the New World Order.

  • Hi Nathan

May I present a suggestion which could improve your blog? I will first explain why and what the problem is and then present a possible solution.

I have not been contributing very much recently because the contributions get hidden too quickly and therefore it is discouraging to me to spend time writing.

You write new long articles every single day (excellent ones). No problem with that!

However, after about 5 articles (5 working days) our comments disappear off the front page very quickly.

This means that all of the time we spent pouring out our hearts speaking (what we believe to be led by the Holy Spirit) TRUTH, effectively disappears into very old posts.

Therefore very few people are likely to read these comments or even the excellent old articles, anymore, because evidence suggests that few people scroll down to older posts to read the OLD items.

May I make a suggestion which may be helpful to us all and to new readers?

Would you please take note of articles which carry the most attended comments and make a list of these with the shortcut links. Maybe entitle it something like "Most popular Posts" listing the number of comments.

Maybe this list could appear in a prominent place always on the front page.

This would then help/promote continuation of those specific popular debates, rather than it coming to a premature end as soon as it drops off the home page.

Please let me know if that is possible.

    God bless

do you believe that the Holy Spirit will still be at work on Earth during the Tribulation? I was brought up to believe that it is impossible for a person to become a Christian without the Holy Spirit. The scriptures are clear that this is true. However, in OT times Israel (at times) repented, believed in and followed God without having the Holy Spirit indwell them.

Abraham believed God but was he filled with the Holy Spirit. Just thinking out loud. The 144,000 are Jewish converts, so could the Tribulation (Jacobs Trouble) be a return to OT conditions but accepting Jesus without the indwelling Holy Spirit? Are there scripture verses to prove this thinking wrong?

If it is possible for the 144,000 to believe without the permanent residence of the Holy Spirit, it would make sense of 2Thes 2 which talks about Him being taken out of the way. It cant be the church because the church is "she".

Of course if the church is raptured, the Holy Spirit will no longer be here also, certainly not in the same power – maybe not at all.

Then again the "he" may be referring an angel. If the 7 churches of Revelation each have an angel over them and if Daniel and Revelation both refer to angels holding back forces of evil, then it could make sense that there is an angel who will no longer be on the Earth protecting the church because the church has been taken?

How do you read 2 Thes 2:1?
"with regard to the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our gathering together to Him"

I believe Paul was referring to Jesus's words in Matthew 24 referring to those who are saying Jesus is here, He is in the secret chambers, ie when Jesus actually physically stands upon the Earth again. I say that because there is a footnote which says that "coming" can be translated as "presence". That would indicate the start of the Millenium.

Anyway, if the above sits with you, then would it be fair to interpret 2 Thes 2 like

"For those who think that Jesus is already here, do not be deceived. Jesus told us that there would be false prophets and deceivers saying Jesus is here. You can be sure that Jesus is not here yet because the rapture has not yet taken place. There will be an antichrist who will appear afterwards but cannot appear until the rapture has taken place first.

After the rapture the antichrist will appear before Jesus returns. The fact that none of these things has happened should reassure your hearts that you have not missed his second coming and that He is NOT already here.

There is already a certain level of apostasy developing amongst us but it will become far worse after the rapture"

How does that sit with you?

  • John clifinford… I don't know about nathan I think that's a wonderful idea
E.I. The holy spirit will be definitely active during the tribulation period it's just his role as the restrainer which will b removed. As for the second thessalonians passage…. you saw my interpretation on eschatology today.blogspot.com. by the way greetings from alaska everyone.

  • Oh by the way some have referred to the "he" meaning the restrainer as michael the archangel also my understanding is the holy spirit will be present to draw people to himself but will not be sealing people and salvation during that time can be a lost. The seailing of 144,000 is for protection. The final week Completes the dispensation of the law So it is like old testament times.

  • By the way….again it doesn't say apostasy meaning general apostasy which is what we see it says THE Apostasy A specific apostasy. I'm wondering if it's talking about the harlot religion of revelation 17 a one world chutchWhich proceeds the day of the lord.

  • Sorry for the confusion. I am not "Expected Imminently". I am "Expecting Imminent Return". We are two different people, both expecting Jesus to return imminently.

  • Where does it say in the scriptures that the Holy Spirit will indwell the 144,000 and those who believe in Jesus during the Tribulation?

Joel 3 says "I will pour out my Spirit in those days upon all flesh". I believe that may refer to Tribulation saints and particular the 144,000 or Israel as they receive Jesus as their Messiah.

However, will the Holy Spirit be within or upon them? Will it be like the temporary anointings experienced by OT saints as they prophesied like King Saul did?

So either way, the Holy Spirit will be active (I guess) but will He be living in individuals in the same way as He permanently resided in the church?

  • I did once hear a pastor differentiate between general apostasy and THE apostasy. On the latter, he said that it was his belief that THE apostasy was a literal departure (ie- the rapture). His reasoning was based on looking at the meaning of the word in other places in the bible that used the word in the same tense(wish I could remember those passages). Supposing he were correct (not sure, of course), then I think your interpretation could be correct, E.I.R. :
"Don’t let anyone deceive you in any way, for that day will not come until the rebellion [the apostasy or the rapture instead] occurs and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the man doomed to destruction."

  • E.I.R. I think…. The operative word being think the holy spirit will upon them like old testament times because the tribulation resumes the clock where is a 69th week left off. It's in revelation 7 Where the 144,000 are sealed. It doesn't say sealed by the spirit but the seal of god. There could be a difference Between seal by the spirit and simply sealed for protection. As for apostasy meaning rapture although it is possible and I'm not dogmatic I'm just not convinced.

  • E.I.R….. Let me give you my interpretation of 2 thessalonian 2 " concerning the coming of our lord(2nd coming) and ( the word and, indicating a different event) are being gather together to him" ( the rapture) paull simply mentioning these events reminding them what he written to them in his first epistle. He goes on"….. I do not want me to become easily shakin or unsettled" the word literally means terrified. A question to ask here Is if these people have a post trib understanding Why would they be terrified? That would contradict several scriptures Wich say we eagerly await the coming of our lord. if they have a pre trib understanding it would make total sense for them to be terrified. He goes on "…. buy some spirit or leyter supposably having comes from us" he was correcting a forged letter. He goes on"…. as is the day of the lord( tribulation) had come…. that day( tribulation) will not come unless the falling away (apostasy) comes first and the man of lawlessness revealed" he is saying your not in the tribulation because the apostasy an anti christ has not come…. later in the chapter he says the restrainer will be taken out of the way. Not removed just taken out of the way from holding back the anti christ. the holy spirit restrained evil through the church. we are the salt and light of the earth. does that make sense? Sorry for the long post I'm in a waiting room. I'm off to enjoy the rest of my vacation

  • Please note 2 Thes 2:1 in Bible Gateway for New American Standard Bible

    2 Thessalonians 2

1 Now we request you, brethren, with regard to the [a]coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our gathering together to Him,

    Footnotes:
    (a) 2 Thessalonians 2:1 Or presence

You may find that on http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=2%20thes%202&version=NASB

If "coming" can be translated as "presence" it would read:

"Now we request you, brethren, with regard to the [a]presence of our Lord Jesus Christ and our gathering together to Him,"

Reading between the lines I think it is referring to the presence of Jesus AFTER He has returned to the Earth in Israel and us all being gathered to Him at the start of the Millennial. ie This is how Jesus will return to the Earth (after the rapture) NOT by appearing in the secret chambers.

  • Dear Katie

Sorry. you have lost me. The apostasy meaning rapture??? Apostasy is referring to a falling away from the true faith handed down to us (re Jude)as explained in Revelation ie the whore Babylon The Great religious system. Whereas rapture is referring to the "catching up" into the heavens or snatching away from the Earth to be with Jesus. These are two completely different events.

  • E.I.R. I'm not sure about that interpretation It still does not prove a post trib rapture Like some claim. I'll have to look into it When I get back. I'm going to enjoy the alaska scenery now

  • Sorry EIR. I Must have misread your first post because that is what I thought you were getting at with your paraphrase of the passage- Oops!

Anyway, I just did a quick google search and found this article(it's not a scholarly article, sorry), which gives the case for the term 'the apostasia' possibly referring to the rapture: http://focusonjerusalem.com/istherapturein2Thessalonians.htm

Here are a few tidbits in case you don't want to take the time to go to the site:
"Liddell and Scott’s “A Greek English Lexicon” defines apostasia first as “defection, revolt”; then secondly as “departure, or disappearance.” Gordon Lewis explains how the verb from which the noun apostasia is derived supports the basic meaning of departure in the following:
The verb may mean to remove spatially. There is little reason then to deny that the noun can mean such a spatial removal or departure. Since the noun is used only one other time in the New Testament of apostasy from Moses (Acts 21:21), we can hardly conclude that its biblical meaning is necessarily determined. The verb is used fifteen times in the New Testament. Of these fifteen, only three have anything to do with a departure from the faith (Luke 8:13; 1st Timothy 4:1; Hebrews 3:12).The word is used for departing from iniquity (2nd Timothy 2:19), from ungodly men (1st Timothy 6:5), from the Temple (Luke 2:27), from the body (2nd Corinthians 12:8), and from persons (Acts 12:10; Luke 4:13). The first seven English translations of apostasia all rendered the noun as either departure” or “departing.” They are as follows: Wycliffe Bible (1384); Tyndale Bible (1526); Coverdale Bible (1535); Cranmer Bible (1539); Breeches Bible (1576); Beza Bible (1583); Geneva Bible (1608)."
"I wonder if you have noticed the striking parallel between this verse and verses 7–8, a little further down.According to your suggestion verse 3 mentions the departure of the Church as coming first, and then tells of the revealing of the Man of Sin. In verses 7 and 8 we find the identical sequence. Verse 7 tells of the removal of the Church; verse 8 says: “And then shall that Wicked be revealed.” Thus close examination of the passage shows an inner unity and coherence, if we take the word apostasia in its general sense of “departure,” while a superficial examination would easily lead to an erroneous interpretation as “falling away” because of the proximity of the mention of the Man of Sin."

    Interesting to ponder. . .
    Blessings,
    Katie

  • Parousia – translated as the ‘coming’ should read ‘presence’. It is about having ‘arrived’, being continually present as opposed to the suggestion ‘about’ to arrive.

In 2Thess2:1 Paul refers to the gathering of the Church in the Rapture. Hartdawg’s appraisal is correct. In other passages the context of the Parousia concerns the arrival of Christ at the 2nd Coming. The context in each passage makes it plain.

The Thess had been deceived into believing they were actually in ‘The Day of Christ’ and Paul was reassuring, as well as reminding them what he had previously told them, that before the Day of Christ vs.2 (The Tribulation) could begin, there had to first be a ‘departure’(apostasia) then the a/c, the man of sin could to be revealed vs.3. This corresponds with Christ breaking the first seal in Revelation 6:1 when the white horse and his rider is seen and in turn is referred to in Daniel 9:27 when a/c confirms the covenant with the Israel majority.

In vs 6 He says ‘you KNOW’ what is preventing (the a/c) from being revealed. Vs7 It is the Restrainer who has to first be ‘taken out’ of the way. Vs.8 It is only then that a/c can be revealed.

Paul is not referring to the Rapture in these verses, so a timing cannot be established, rather it concerns the ‘Day of Christ’ The Tribulation that they were NOT in because the proper order of events had not taken place.

As Hartdawg has said if Paul had previously told them that they would be going through the Tribulation, why were they upset about being in it? It makes no sense!

Katies article is correct imo. Hope this helps to confirm what Hartdawg has written.

    God bless
    Sue

  • How is it that I have been misunderstood so easily? I AM NOT post trib. I am pre trib. My name "Expecting Imminent Return" should have made that obvious anyway.

I am not pointing to a post trib rapture but trying to show that verse 1 using word "presence" together with the word "coming" would further strengthen our position and not weaken it.

The posties say that the "coming" and our gathering is referring to the rapture AFTER the tribulation. I am pointing out that the very verse they use "gathering" is not referring to the rapture but to the gathering back on planet Earth in Israel from heaven,

ie first the rapture, second the tribulation then the gathering back into Israel from heaven and from the 4 corners of the Earth (those post rapture believers who survived the Trib).

Anyway, point is that whatever way we look at it 2 Thes 2 strengthens the pre trib position.

By the way, why is it that all of the major translations use the words "falling away" or "rebellion" for the word apostasy in verse 3 but none of them use words meaning rapture or gathering? I mean harpazo could have been used by Paul but apostasia is used instead.

That surely indicates that "falling away" in verse 3 is discussing a fall away from THE FAITH. Obviously if the church has been raptured, truth will greatly decrease and speedily.

I am now convinced that Paul is using a common sense approach to prove that the Day of The Lord had not yet arrived because the fall away from faith and the appearance of the antichrist had not yet happened. He is surely showing that Jesus will not return physically to Earth until after these events have taken place? He then goes on to explain that the church will be raptured before the antichrist comes to power.

I believe verse 1 above is referring to matthew 24:23-27

Then if anyone says to you, ‘Behold, here is the [l]Christ,’ or ‘[m]There He is,’ do not believe him. 24 For false Christs and false prophets will arise and will [n]show great [o]signs and wonders, so as to mislead, if possible, even the [p]elect. 25 Behold, I have told you in advance. 26 So if they say to you, ‘Behold, He is in the wilderness,’ do not go out, or, ‘Behold, He is in the inner rooms,’ do not believe them. 27 For just as the lightning comes from the east and flashes even to the west, so will the coming of the Son of Man be.

So verse 1 of 2 Thes 2 is telling us that the presence of Jesus at His return to the Earth will be unique and noticeable by everybody and will not be in secret.

  • Another thought to ponder.

In 1 Thes 4 and 5 the rapture is referred to as commencing the day of the Lord and as coming like a thief in the night.

Peter said that one day is as a thousand years. The Millenium will be the 7th day of creation. Approx 6000 years have passed and we will be entering (shortly) the 7th day of sabbath rest. The reign of Christ.

I would suggest that the Day of the Lord is the whole 1000 years and commences immediately after the rapture of the church, followed by Tribulation and God's judgements and then the Return of Jesus with the saints and the setting up of His kingdom on Earth.

So when Paul refers to the Day of the Lord in 1 Thes 4 and 5 he first discusses the rapture

"Now, brothers and sisters, about times and dates we do not need to write to you, for you know very well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night."

So the Day of the Lord starts with the rapture.

Then 2 Thes 2 goes on to say more about the Day of The Lord as taking place during the Trib.

"Don’t let anyone deceive you in any way, for that day will not come until the rebellion occurs and the man of lawlessness[a] is revealed"

I believe Paul was doing at least 2 things. He was reassuring believers that the rapture had not yet happened (reassuring those who were concerned that the rapture had already happened and they had been left behind)and informing them what the commencement of the Day of The Lord would look like by reminding them what Jesus told us in Matthew 24.

  • Hello EIR

This is becoming rather muddled. Not sure if it is me you are cross with but I had realised you were Pretrib. As you had put forward the point that Parousia meant ‘presence’ I confirmed it while also agreeing with what Hartdawg and Katie had written. In other words, we are all batting for the same side.

As your first comment was mainly addressed to Nathan, perhaps I should not have entered the debate.

Concerning the question you asked about The Holy Spirit, I did decide to leave to Nathan – but quickly, the removal of the Restrainer possibly IS The Holy Spirit, but it isn’t 100% clear (to me). If the Restrainer is The Holy Spirit he is being removed from restraining lawlessness, that doesn’t mean he is leaving earth altogether.

At Salvation,HE baptises the Church INTO Christ’s Body and INDWELLS each believer; at the Rapture, the Church is complete. Those who accept Christ during the Tribulation are not a part of the completed Church, rather a different company of Tribulation saints. It may be that when HE returns to His pre-Church position after the Rapture HE may return to come ONTO the Trib saints as HE did to the O.T. saints?

Because you have presented so many thoughts and questions all at once; I shall wait to see if someone else replies concerning the 144,000 who are all Jewish, male, virgins who are called the servants of God just as the Disciples were. Nathan can post links to Dr.Reagans articles for you – I don’t know how to do that.

    Okay my Pretrib sister?
    Every blessing.
    Sue

  • Thanks everybody for trying to help me with my questions. That includes you Hartdawg. I know you mean well. Just to say that I was getting frustrated (not angry) with some of the answers which showed that I wasn't being understood. Then finally I got this comment:

"E.I.R. I'm not sure about that interpretation It still does not prove a post trib rapture Like some claim"

That comment frustrated me even more because it could be that others reading my questions would also come to the same conclusion. It was like I was wasting my time explaining/asking if others drew the conclusion I was a postie.

  • An interesting argument in behalf of the pre-Tribulation timing of the Rapture can be found in 2 Thessalonians. The church at Thessalonica was in a turmoil because someone had written them a letter under Paul's name stating that they had missed the "gathering to the Lord" and were, in fact, living in "the day of the Lord" (2 Thessalonians 2:1-2).

Paul attempted to calm them down by reminding them of his teaching that the day of the Lord would not come until after the Antichrist is revealed. He then stated that the Antichrist would not be revealed until a restraining force "is taken out of the way" (2 Thessalonians 2:3-7).

There has been much speculation as to the identity of this restraining force that Paul refers to. Some have identified it as the Holy Spirit. But it cannot be the Holy Spirit because there will be people saved during the Tribulation, and no one can be saved apart from the testimony of the Spirit (John 16:8-11 & 1 John 5:7).

Others have identified the restrainer as human government. It is true that government was ordained by God to restrain evil (Romans 13:1-4). But the governments of the world are in rebellion against God and His Son (Psalm 2), and they are therefore a contributor to the evil that characterizes the world. Furthermore, the Tribulation will not be characterized by a lack of government. Rather, it will feature the first true worldwide government (Revelation 13:7).

In my opinion that leaves only one other candidate for Paul's restrainer — and that is the Church. It is the Church that serves as the primary restrainer of evil in the world today as it proclaims the Gospel and stands for righteousness. When the Church fails in this mission, evil multiplies, as Paul graphically points out in 2 Timothy 3:1-5. Paul says that society in the end times will be characterized by chaos and despair because "men will hold to a form of religion but will deny its power." When the Church is removed from the world, all hell will literally break loose.

  • John, ask and you shall receive. Good suggestion! The Popular Posts will track the top 5 viewed over the last few months.

Anyone seeing Followers? It comes and goes for me in IE9.

  • Thanks Nathan

However, just the top 5 will not solve the problem. I am not talking about the most read but the most contributed ie with the most comments.

Having my own blog, I have a facility *(which I think I will now use) for setting a gadget whereever I want to put it. All people need to do is click on the gadget and will find a league table (maintained by me) of say the most popular 50 articles, with promotion and relegation as/when an article gets more than the 50th.

This will enable comments to continue well into the future (maybe years).

I use blogger. Do you have same facility?

  • What's the name of the gadget you use, John?

I subscribe to my own blog by email to get comments so I don't miss any. "Subscribe to this Blog" the Comments feature does the same thing.

  • Nathan,
I was sorta understanding it along the lines of a sidebar links to "Most Recent Comments", as I have found, every now and then in searching for something in past articles, that someone would post an interesting comment months after it went cold, that could re-ignite a lively topic.

Your current one for most popular would work great if it includes a pick-up for a "most recent" that would normally be lost…
    😉

  • Hi Nathan

I have started on my own one. Once I have finished, maybe you would like to take a look. For meanwhile please look at my homepage and click on the gadget that says "menu list" to give you an idea. You can find it top middle. The list was produced on Word document and then pasted as a new article, so that clicking on menu list takes me directly to that old article.

I don't know if you have a better way of doing it, but it works for me.

    http://www.watchmanforjesus.blogspot.com

  • Another suggestion Nathan,

is that you insert "read more" facility everytime you write an article. So, the first part of the article (to get readers attention) will contain just a few paragraphs. If the reader wants to read more, they click on "read more".

If you did that, you can get maybe 50 articles a page = easier to monitor. The "read more" icon can be found within the "post" facility and is called "insert jump break" is two thick parallel lines next to the align left icon.

One thing though, for it to work successfully you need to regularly update the article.

  • E.I.R.
Morning….I been up all night. Was light at 330 a.m. here in the land of the midnight sun. I think my comment may not have been clear enough. I know you are pre trib the very interpretation you had for second thessalonians prooves it. My difference of opinion Was simply the coming of the lord amd are being gathered to him. My view was different than yours. Both view support for pre trib rapture however. As for the holy spirit being the the restrainer I disagree VERY SLIGHTLY with Nathan. The church always used in the feminine sense never the masculine. It seems more likely to me That the restrainer Is the holy spirit role as the restrainer which would include the church. However,my disagreements on this issue isVERY SMALL It's like disagreeing weather a ball is blue or violet

  • Hey Nathan

How did you manage to set up "recent comments". I would like that facility on my blog. Would you please talk me through how to do it?

Is that an automatic facility? I mean does blogger keep a record of the last comments and automatically update without you having to do anything?

If so, that is very useful.

  • Ok, my last comment does not yet appear under "recent comments". Therefore, it is either on a timer or is updated manually. I assume it is on a timer. How soon does it update?

  • Nathan

I have been monitoring the new "recent comments" facility. There does seem to be some backlog before recent comments appear. For example my last comment (I believe)took more than 2 hours to appear Do you know why?

Another suggestion. Could you place that gadget at the very top of the right hand side rather than lost in the middle. Where you have put it is okay for those who KNOW it is there, but for those who don't know it is there, will not notice it.

If you put it at the top it will be noticed far more. I believe that this new feature could be one of the most important for improving our communications with each other. Therefore makes sense for it to appear in a more prominent (noticeable) place.

You have a gadget for voting polls at the most prominent place. Surely "recent comments" is of more value than the voting gadget?

    Just trying to be helpful.

    God bless

  • John, it's interesting to learn how other people navigate one's site, because we all go about it differently. You brought up good points that wouldn't occur to me in how I navigate, esepcially preferring the Blog Archive navigation.

I like your "Read More" feature – nice!

The "Recent Comments" is a widget under Design that self populates. I may not keep it as it takes too long to load. I see your Followers widget like mine loads just as iffy.

The poll needs to stay at the top because we link to it from our e-newsletters.

For those who are invested in the discussions on this blog, subscribing to the comments is a surefire way to keep up and it comes right into your RSS feed or inbox.

Since Blogger added the Pages feature I've been contemplating a whole new design. We'll see how time goes.

BTW, John, Blogger is about to undergo a major integration and rebranding into Google+, so our sites may radically be changed. Hopefully not.

  • Thanks Nathan

As promised I have now updated my blog to include "articles carrying most comments". Please check out my blog to see how I have done that.

On the homepage it appears like this

    Articles Carrying Most Comments

Please click on the following shortcut link to find a league table of articles carrying the most comments

Articles Carrying Most Comments as at 21 July 2011
    http://watchmanforjesus.blogspot.com/2011/07/articles-carrying-most-comments-as-at.html

I wrote this as a new article but did not want it to appear on the front page so changed the date to 21 Jul 2010 instead of 21 Jul 2011.

When will blogger be changing? Will it affect our blog shortcut links or cause us to lose vital information?
