The Desire of Women

Nathan Jones: Daniel 11:37 explains that once the Antichrist rises to world power, he will willfully carry out what he wants to do for the pleasure of himself and his master, Satan. That pleasure, interestingly, does not include a desire for women.

“He shall regard neither the God of his fathers nor the desire of women, nor regard any god; for he shall exalt himself above them all.”

Vic Batista: Verse 37 has led some theologians to conclude that this individual might have a homosexual nature. Or, he just doesn’t care about anything sexual. Another interpretation, the Antichrist could be so consumed with himself that he really doesn’t care about anyone else, male or female.

Nathan Jones: One of those could very well be the case. Adolf Hitler had his Eva Braun. They supposedly married just before he himself killed. And yet, at the same time, Hitler was supposed to be cold and aloof and demonstrated no interest in sexuality. Braun may have stood by him for appearances only.

To me, a literal interpretation of the passage stating the Antichrist will show no desire for women most likely then means he’s a homosexual. Certainly such behavior would be anti of the natural order and laws of God. But, maybe he just cold towards all women, but again, a literal interpretation makes homosexuality the obvious translation.

Some have even interpreted verse 37 to mean that “the desire of women” is actually Jesus Christ. They’ll argue that the desire of women is for their Messiah, and so therefore, the passage means the Antichrist will possess no desire for the Messiah. I’ve encountered a number of Christians who side with that interpretation, but that’s a real stretch, I think.

Vic Batista: Some commentaries tend to lean that way. I don’t think we can be 100% sure where the correct interpretation sides at this time. We have to conclude, “I just don’t know.” And so, I’ll go with, “I just don’t know… until further notice.”

Nathan Jones: That’s true, we can only guess as to what this strange description means. I lean towards he possesses no interest in women. The exaltation of homosexuality defines our time, and so an openly gay world leader would be hailed as the ultimate in societal advancement. Sexual perversions increasingly are accepted and most succinctly represents the antithesis of God’s perfect will.

Vic Batista: Let’s consider another interpretation for a minute concerning the Antichrist having no regard for women using Revelation 12. Revelation 12:1 says, “A great sign appeared in heaven, a woman…” and we know the woman represents Israel, “…cloaked with the sun, and moon under her feet, and around the head a garland of twelve stars and being with child she cried out with labor in pain to give birth. And another sign appeared in the heaven behold a great fiery red dragon having seven heads, and seven horns and seven diadems on his head.” Satan hates this woman. Could the Antichrist’s description that he holds no regard for women possibly refer to Revelation 12?

Nathan Jones: I have a little bit of difficulty with Revelation 12 holding the interpretation to Daniel 11:37 because Daniel doesn’t say woman singular but women plural. If Israel is represented by the one woman imagery in Revelation 12, a plural interpretation remains problematic.

Vic Batista: We can speculate a little bit. That’s what everyone else seems to do with this passage.

Nathan Jones: Certainly, but that’s really all we can do. Should we actually go through Daniel’s passage word for word, “He shall regard neither the God of his fathers,” God capitalized meaning Yahweh, “nor the desire of women,” plural. Women instead of woman to me would render Revelation 12 being the interpretation as moot.

If the Antichrist doesn’t regard the desire of women, whatever that means, then why only women and not men desire Jesus Christ as their Savior? Revelation 12 ends up presenting a most puzzling interpretation.

Not wanting women, that’s a featured characteristic of the Antichrist, and fitting. When you consider the Antichrist stands out as the polar opposite of Jesus Christ, countering everything God has created in the natural order and laws of the universe, the Antichrist must then define the complete opposite of morality. If we wish to speculate, then to me personally, I believe the Antichrist would have to be a homosexual.

No denial can be made about the exponential increase in homosexual activity and acceptance of that lifestyle across the entire world. Certainly the breakdown of the family remains the primary cause of the increase in lustfulness and the open acceptance of alternative family structures. Society has shunned the traditional and the normal. It’s not at all difficult to believe the world would easily accept a homosexual as their ruler, even in our day. Certainly we wouldn’t have considered such behavior as good some 20 years ago. If we today were to elect an openly gay president, and of course we’ve had a few closet gay presidents, well I don’t think anyone would bat an eye. We would just expect a homosexual in this day and age in a major leadership role. The world is ready to heartily accept someone with that kind of sin issue, because it would be okay for them if he rules as he’s support any lascivious lifestyle the population desires. He’s the ultimate party president!

Vic Batista: As holy as we expect the Holy Land to be in the Israel of today, the homosexual lifestyle is very accepted in Israel among the liberal Jewish people. Of course, the Orthodox do not approve, but the liberal, secular Jewish society openly does.

Nathan Jones: Tel Aviv stands out as the Mediterranean capital of homosexual vacations and parties. To think that Israel — the people of God — are openly promoting unbiblical behavior shows Israel’s heart has not yet turned to God. As a matter of fact, the first openly gay Knesset member was elected not too long ago, and the Jews are claiming his election as a great victory for gay rights.

How sad. For the very Word of God decries homosexuality. Such lustful behavior strikes against the natural order that God has created for establishing stable families, for developing selfless and loving bonds, and for producing the maximum happiness in the family structure. No matter how much liberal society attempts to claim these benefits, testimony after testimony proves these essential needs are just not found in the homosexual lifestyle. Therefore then, the logical conclusion would be that the Antichrist will embrace homosexuality, because he lives to stand against the natural order of things.

Vic Batista: Such sadness occurs when we stand against God’s loving and moral tenants. As Christians we must pray for those caught up in homosexuality, because many people are trapped in that lifestyle, but they can be delivered. Sin is sin regardless, and God hates all forms of sin. But, God loves the sinner and has a plan for us.

Maybe you find yourself bound by this sin? Know then that sinners can obtain victory in Jesus Christ.

Nathan Jones: Christ died for sinners, which includes us all. No matter what the sin issue you’re facing: homosexuality, fornication, adultery, lust, cheating, lying, stealing. You name it! We are all sinners and so we all need Jesus to save us from the slavery of our sin and its eternal punishment in Hell.

The first segment of this series on the mighty angels of Daniel began with a tragic back story. In the sixty-eighth segment, the world will be introduced to a brand new god — a god of fortresses.

  • When the Bible says the antichrist does not favor women could it mean that he is a supernatural being and not a human being. Humans believe in marriage and favor women but a being such as an angel does not.

  • Hello, It means he doesn’t care about the desires of women.. aka he treats them badly. Does NOT mean he doesn’t desire sex from women. I don’t know why this is so hard to understand. He does not care about what women want.

    • Exactly! Someone finally gets what I’ve been saying for years! The antichrist is will be a the worst mysogynist.

  • It means he doesn’t care about the desires of women.. aka he treats them badly. Does NOT mean he doesn’t desire sex from women. I don’t know why this is so hard to understand. He does not care about what women want.

  • i think that “he, (i.e. the Anti-Moshiach) will be “Rev. 16:13” (read ‘spiritual’ not ‘carnal’) and this is the only reason why he will have no desire for the ladies. If he is going to ‘get the world’s constituent vote’, he will have to do some ‘mighty signs and wonders’ to get his global support to get into the position he is supposed to be in.

  • I think we must pay attention to another very important word in the passage, that word being “FATHERS”. The God of his FATHERS believed in God’s standard for procreation, so it makes sense that the antichrist would defy that standard. The passage states the antichrist would disregard the desires of WOMEN, but does not mention he would disregard the desires of MEN. If the antichrist’s father disregarded the desires of a woman, he would have never existed. He certainly has “only child” syndrome. Thank God.

  • Yes, agreed with an earlier comment! Homosexuality is a growing issue, but Daniel 11:37 likely means the Anti-Christ will have no regard for women’s basic desires (rights). This is an on-going trend throughout human history, most crystalized in the Muslim world today. This abuse of women’s desires (rights) will climax when the Anti-Christ appears. Certain scholars of eschatology who see the Anti-Christ rising from the Mulsim world interpret this verse in the same way.

We also know from Genesis 3:15 that God prophesied an on-going enmity between Satan & “the woman.” In the immediate context “the woman” is a reference to Eve & later Israel who produced the “seed” of the Messiah. But could this verse also imply that there will be on-going enmity between Satan & women in general who bear-children in God’s image and who Jesus seemed to particularly value and elevate? History sure seems to bear out that type of on-going enmity.

  • I think your eagerness to blame gay people for everything has misguided your ability to do a proper analysis of Daniel chapter 11, verse 37: “He will show no regard for the gods of his fathers, nor for the one desired by women, nor for any other god, because he will magnify himself above them all.”

You say, “To me, a literal interpretation of the passage stating the Antichrist will show no desire for women most likely then means he’s a homosexual.”

However, the quote clearly says he will have no regard FOR the gods of his fathers, nor for THE ONE desired by women.” Your interpretation of this is not only very shallow but also intended to spread hate. Others have noted that the Messiah has historically been called the “desire of women” because so many Jewish women hoped to give birth to the Messiah. But, don’t let me interrupt your hate. Continue spreading lies and corrupting the Holy Word.

  • I understood that the “desire of women” was to be honored/chosen to be the mother of the Messiah. That is the Messiah would be in her unique lineage. Therefore the passage would say he has no regard for Elohim/Jehovah nor the Messiah to come, but instead a “new” god heretofore not known since even antiquity.

  • Is it not possible to phrase the desire of women applies to the specific desire of Jewish women to be the mother of the Messiah the Savior? If so this would explain I think clearly the desire of women being the Messiah would mean the antichrist would have no affection or desire for Jesus which we would expect from the antichrist.
