A Forever Promise

Vic Batista: We’re going to keep diving into the stunning 2 Peter 3:1-7 prophecy which prophesies:

“Beloved, I now write to you this second epistle in both of which I stir up your pure minds by way of reminder, that you may be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of us, the apostles of the Lord and Savior, knowing this first: that scoffers will come in the last days, walking according to their own lusts, and saying, ‘Where is the promise of His coming? For since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of creation.’ For this they willfully forget: that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of water and in the water, by which the world that then existed perished, being flooded with water. But the heavens and the earth which are now preserved by the same word, are reserved for fire until the Day of Judgment and perdition of ungodly men.”

Vic Batista: The Word of God is so encouraging because it is filled with promises. I love the word “promise” in verse 4. After the world was flooded, God left His promise that He would never again flood the earth. He even gave us the rainbow as a reminder of His promise. That means the whole world will never experience a worldwide flood ever again.

Nathan Jones: Yes. The Bible provides a great testimony counter to what you hear these climate alarmists crying: “The icecaps are melting! The world is going to be flooded.” They actually believe the coastal cities will be underwater in our lifetime. How interesting when looking over the demographics in the United States that the climate alarmists tend to mostly live along the coastlines. Some of these alarmists even claim that eventually the whole world will be flooded due to human-caused carbon emissions.

No, it won’t! The world will never be flooded ever again. The Lord has made that promise, so we can be positively sure that the world will never be flooded ever again.

Instead, Bible prophecy reveals the world is reserved for the fires of judgment. Read through Revelation and you will see that at the very end of the Millennial Kingdom Satan’s last revolt against God will be foiled. Jesus will call down fire to consume Satan’s forces. Then Jesus will burn up the world, reform it, and reshape it into the New Earth. That New Earth will be the eternal earth where we dwell in the heavenly city called the New Jerusalem. That’s the future for the earth.

Flood Deniers

Nathan Jones: If you are a believer in Christ, this coming New Earth is rather exciting. That’s our future! But, if you are one of these scoffers running after your own lusts, as we just read about in 2 Peter 3, you can be sure that judgment is coming for you, and you don’t want that to happen. Scoffers live in a constant state of denial claiming, “Everything has been the same. There was never a global Flood. And, God never will return to judge me or anybody else.” What denial! That’s crazy talk. Why would anyone choose to deny reality?

What a generation we live in that consistently believes that they don’t have to live in reality. They can create their own fantasy world. Truth can be whatever they want it to be. And, everybody can live and work together even though they believe everybody’s “truth” is relative. No, instead, we are seeing the world rip itself apart because all of these different “truths” can never coexist. There is no such thing as different yet equal truths. There’s only one truth and that is the truth that God is the Author and Creator of all things. He’s the One whom we need to tap as our only source of truth.

Vic Batista: This passage rather explains why Satan consistently attacks the Creation account as told in the book of Genesis. For people who want to see the truth, the evidence for the Creation and a global Flood exists all around them. When discussing the Flood, Creation scientists have uncovered so many facts that point to a literal, global Flood having occurred some 4,000 years ago.

Nathan Jones: Creation Today’s Eric Hovind hosts these one-minute long, computer-animated Creation Minute videos that teach you a little bit about the Creation. One of these videos proves the Flood did indeed occur. One of Eric’s greatest examples points to the top of Mt. Everest. On top of the tallest mountain in the world, you can find clam shells! How did clamshells get on top of Mt. Everest? And, they’re in a closed position, not the open position, showing they had been buried alive at one point. Water once covered Mt. Everest and so the entire world. And, that’s just one of the many proofs that exist that proves the Flood really happened.

Geological strata also shows there was a global Flood and that the layers were rapidly put down, and not like the Uniformitarianist’s claim that it took millions of years one layer at a time. We know these strata were rapidly placed because the results from the explosion of Mount Saint Helens disproves Uniformitarianism, instead showing that layers of geological strata could be deposited very quickly.

Vic Batista: For those who really want to see the truth, it is there all around them. But, for those who, like it says in verse 5, willingly forget about the Creation and the Flood, they ignore the clear evidence. Satan sure has clouded the minds of so many people today. You can show them the truth, but they just don’t want to acknowledge it. Getting past the denial has to be the work of the Holy Spirit. Only God’s spirit can open up the heart and minds of willfully ignorant people so that they see the truth.

In the twenty-first part of our faith journey down the Rapture Road through the book of 2 Peter, we’ll learn how God experiences time.

  • We live in southern Ohio where there are millions of fossilized ocean fauna. To believe The Flood didn’t happen worldwide blows my mind: the evidence is everywhere! Now, water worldwide is diminishing in rivers, creeks, and even glaciers are melting. God is preparing this Earth for fire.
