Validity of the Bible: Fulfilled Prophecy

How do we know that the Bible really is the Word of God?

Dr. Reagan and I on our ministry’s television show Christ in Prophecy had the pleasure of asking this question of Eric Barger of Take a Stand! Ministries. Eric is an authority on the cults, the New Age, and rock music today. From his past as a former drug addict and rock n’ roll musician who was deeply involved in the New Age movement, Eric has emerged since he gave his life to Jesus Christ to become a great defender of Christianity in America. He joined us to talk about the validity of the Bible as the foundation of our Christian faith.

Eric Barger

Eric Barger: God has shown Himself to us in it. There’s no doubt about that. The Bible gives us the account of the God-man Jesus Christ. Jesus Himself validates so many of the Old Testament passages. The New Testament quotes 34 Old Testament books, and Jesus himself quotes 24 of the Old Testament books.

Maybe the best proof the Bible is the Word of God is fulfilled prophecy. Fulfilled prophecy shows us that the Word of God has stood the test of time. There is no other book in the world that contains fulfilled prophecy.

Dr. Reagan: How could anyone get around that fact? Some try. That is the reason why liberals for example hate Bible prophecy so much. They hate it with a passion. They hate the book of Daniel because it is so specifically fulfilled in history.

Eric Barger: Yes, and the book of Daniel is one of the most attacked books by the liberals.

Nathan Jones: They will move the date up so that all the prophecies would become past tense to the original author.

Eric Barger: Exactly, it makes it look like Daniel was writing from his pre-cognitive knowledge, or that someone wrote in Daniel’s name.

Dr. Reagan: Daniel wrote history in advance better than most people have written it afterwards.

Eric Barger: True, but the liberals want to tell you that Daniel was written in the Maccabean period. That would be 350 years after Daniel died. They want to say that it was written later by somebody else who already knew the events, but we can quickly see in Daniel 9 if you harmonize it with Ezra 7, you will see that God’s Word was fulfilled. God fulfilled this almost to the day when Jesus Christ arrived on the scene exactly 483 years later, just as Daniel predicted it ahead of time.

Dr. Reagan: I was speaking at a church one time and asked the congregation to turn over to the book of Daniel. The pastor stood up right in the front row and said, “We don’t allow the book of Daniel to be read in this church!” He went on, “You obviously are not a seminary graduate or you would know that book is fallacious. It just pretends to be prophecy.” Right in front of the whole congregation I asked, “What do you mean?” He replied, “All educated people know it was written in the time of Christ.” I countered, “How then do you explain the fact that it was in the Septuagint, 228 years or more before Christ? It was included in the Septuagint translation.” He just shrugged it off and said, “I don’t want to discuss it.”

Eric Barger: I think the most telling fact that supports the veracity of Daniel is that Jesus quoted Daniel. Jesus by doing that validated Daniel’s authorship. If there was something wrong with anything in the Old Testament, instead of quoting it, Jesus would have corrected it, but He didn’t.

In the next part of this series on the validity of the Bible, we’ll ask Eric what he thinks about the King James Version.

  • Hello Nathan

My 12 year old grand-daughter (Emergent) was telling me about this ‘Rap’ song she thought was wonderful and said ‘it was written just before the earthquake’.

Obviously I said ‘WHICH earthquake, there has been so many and Jesus talks about earthquakes occurring just before…’ She rolled her eyes and said dryly ‘oh yes, I know, before the end of the w-o-r-l-d’

Naturally I said ‘You what! No way; who told you that? It’s nothing to do with the end of the world’. As I am ‘banned’from saying anything at all about God (I take no notice) I stopped there to watch her face – she was stunned into silence bless her, she was ‘shtumified’ with a quizzical look in her eyes. The moment passed; but I knew The Holy Spirit had caused her to question what ‘they’ had obviously told her while mocking prophecy.

Just to add that she switched on cable for me to hear a ‘Rap’ on some music channel. It was still early in the morning…! The words came up on the screen and I asked her if she had ever read them; she took notice, read some words and shrugged to agree they were nonsense.

They were even dafter than the songs I used to have to make up for her when she was little… Then I added, always read the words, make sure all the songs at church are right otherwise the rhythm and the music will fool you into singing what is not true. Again this really hit home, I could almost hear the cogs turning.

Where there is a will The Holy Spirit will find a way! 🙂
    Praise The Lord.

  • Grandaughter S sneaked in to see me again yesterday. I had to hear all about 'Rap' again but asked her if she knew what being 'born again' meant. She recoiled saying it had something to do with death.

Now she has heard the Truth!
    Plus
The Harpazo (chose not to use Rapture) She had no idea. She was quiet, but I know it was going in. Oh yes, and I asked her to ask The Lord for His Truth; and don't believe what I or any one else tells her, including her 'mentor'
🙁 until she checks it up in Scripture. I did mention John and Thess; but it went over her head!

Not forgetting that Christians are also called Church (not a building)
the Body and the Bride. Oh the look in her eyes!

I can die happy now 🙂

  • Hello Nathan

I can’t say I am surprised but I have just been raged at by my son for telling my granddaughter the above. He near screamed at me to get out of his life; stop interfering and don’t talk to his children again. That he was still trying to rid himself of all this ‘crap’ I had told him as a kid. Upset my mum dreadfully, but I just let him get it off his chest. Then eldest son came in to back him and ‘thanked me’ for causing so much trouble. As before I am not asked what I have said, I am pronounced guilty and condemned out of hand!

So there we are, again. If all the above is rubbish, what is the ‘truth’ that Seeker Sensitive/ Purpose Driven/Emergent is teaching my family? If God answers prayers; that wicked philosophy needs judging harshly and revealed for the vile deception that it is, the sooner the better. Its not all bad, at least I got to hear my son’s voices again even if it is for the last time.

In case anyone is wondering, I am unrepentant, if I am led of The Lord again I shall do all I can to squeeze God’s Word in somehow and I know The Holy Spirit will give increase to The Word in due season. It’s ripping me apart but I am determined to count it all joy for what the Lord has laid up for us all. This life is transient and the reality of Eternity with Christ is coming.

I write this as a witness against the antichrist spirit of Emergent in all its guises and for what it is doing to once loving families. In this case the deception is at the AOG (mega)‘One church’ formerly ‘Robinswood’ at Gloucester UK under the teaching of Simon Jervis and his wife who is proud of passing her exams in Psychology (no doubt practised on my son).

Colossians 2:8 Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.

    Maranatha and Praise The Lord!

  • Oh, I'm so sorry to hear, Sue. 🙁 It's so hard to actually see the Gospel create the division in a family that Jesus said would happen in Matthew 10:17-23.

Two things, Sue, remember the hope Jesus gives you in His prophecy, "he who stands firm to the end will be saved." And, your teachings will become real to them at some point and not be in vain. Even if it takes the Tribulation (heaven forbid), there will be a time when your kids will remember their wise ole mum's teachings and turn back to Christ. So, don't give up on giving them the blessed hope.

We here will all be praying.

  • Hello Nathan
It has been a comfort to know of your prayers. Today my eldest boy came to say sorry. A tiny bit of progress, as he wants to resolve things. I said 'I will not deny my Lord'; his face softened and tried to reassure me 'it' wasn't denying The Lord, but I had to quietly disagree. (That was a lovely moment) but he couldn't continue so he left but went out with his dad for a while.

An hour ago youngest son asked to see us for one minute. For the first time he checked with me what I had actually said to 12 year old. I hadn't said what they thought and thankfully he believed me. This happens with children, a simple mistake, its easily done. Before he left he said 'you are my mum and I love you' – same to his dad! We said the same to him. Ten minutes later he rang his Nan to see if we were alright.

THAT is a huge step after all these long years and I am so grateful for this tiny shred of hope. I feel exhausted and the three of us are teary. I just had to let you, and all who have prayed, know that your prayers have been heard and I cannot thank you enough. I love you truly. May The Lord bless you and keep you…

  • Awesome, Sue! I read your comment to the staff today as encouragment that the Lord's been answering your's and our prayers. You've taught them too well over the years for them to fall away for too long.
