What Is Going to Happen to America?

Where is the United States in Bible prophecy?

It is only natural that we should wonder since the United States is not mentioned specifically by name in Bible prophecy. We are covered by general prophecies that relate to all nations, but beyond that, our end time destiny must be a matter of speculation.

General prophecies that apply to the U.S. include those that say all nations will be judged (Isaiah 34:2-3) and all nations will cease to exist except the nation of Israel (Jeremiah 30:11 and 46:28).

A Speculation

I personally believe that the reason the U.S. is not mentioned in end time prophecy is because we will suddenly cease to be a world power and will therefore play no significant role in end time events.

The destruction of American power is most likely to occur in two stages. The first looks to be an economic catastrophe that will result from our out of control debt situation. Our god is the dollar, and the Lord is going to destroy that god when the weight of our debt collapses our economy.

The second stage could occur when Russia launches its invasion of Israel (prophesied in Ezekiel 38 and 39). I believe it is very likely that they will launch a preemptive nuclear attack against our nation, since we are the only country in the world that might possibly come to Israel’s defense. This attack may be hinted at in Ezekiel 39:6 where it says that fire will fall on “those who inhabit the coastlands in safety.”

The Russian attack will probably come from submarines deployed off our East and West coasts. Each Russian sub carries more fire power than all the bombs dropped in World War II. Such an attack would give us only seven minutes warning, not even enough time to launch a counter attack.

With the U.S. immobilized, the Russians will then attack Israel and, according to Ezekiel, their army will be wiped out supernaturally by God on the hills of Israel (Ezekiel 39:1-4). The greatest power vacuum in the history of mankind will be created almost overnight. The world will be gripped by panic.

Into that vacuum will step a dynamic, charismatic European political personality who will be energized by Satan. He will begin to rally the world to his support through his brilliant proposals for world peace. The world will be mesmerized by him (Revelation 13:8).

The Parallel of Habakkuk

I admit that I do not like this speculative scenario. But it seems the most likely chain of events to me. When it first occurred to me, I was particularly repelled by the idea of God using Russia to judge our nation. I asked, “How can a holy God punish those who are evil with those who are more evil?”

My quest for an answer to that question led me to the book of Habakkuk. I discovered that Habakkuk asked God the same question when God revealed to him that Judah would be judged by an invasion of the Chaldeans.

God never answered Habakkuk’s question. He just called on Habakkuk to proceed in faith, believing that God knew best (Habakkuk 2:4). After a difficult spiritual struggle, Habakkuk stepped out in faith and said, “Lord, even if the Chaldeans completely destroy us, I will continue to exalt Your name” (Habakkuk 3:17-19).

The Chaldeans came. They destroyed the nation of Judah and the Temple of God. But where are the Chaldeans today? In the dust bin of history. Where are the Jews? Regathered to their land.

The point is that God has the wisdom and power to orchestrate the evil of Man to the triumph of His holy will in history. It is not for us to question His ways. Rather, it is for us to trust Him.

A Sobering Conclusion

But there is another point to consider. Are we really more righteous than the Russians? I think not.

In fact, I believe we are far more dangerous to the world spiritually than the Russians have ever been, for we are the world’s moral polluter through the export of our sleazy television programs, our filthy movies, our satanic music, and our degrading pornography.

We are a people who have turned our back on God. The day of judgment for us will be far more severe than for the Russians, for “to those to whom much is given, much is expected” (Luke 12:48).

Another Possibility

There is another possible fate for the United States. If the Rapture were to occur today, we would be devastated because our nation contains more born again Christians than any other nation in the world — more than all of Western Europe combined. Further, we have many born again Christians in high positions of commerce and government. The Rapture would reduce our nation to chaos, removing us from the international scene as the world’s dominant power.

We can hope and pray that this will be the destiny of our nation, because if it is not, we are headed toward outright destruction due to our rebellion against a gracious God who has blessed us more than any other nation that has ever existed.

  • I believe the rapture will be the event that takes the United States off the world scene. The Bible says believers are not destined for wrath. I can not believe we would experience economic collapse or nuclear war if we are to escape the wrath to come. And if we have to experience wrath then does that mean the Bible is wrong and does that mean we can not look to the return of Jesus as hope and encouragement? I pray my belief is correct.

  • The following is just speculation based on nothing but conjecture: What if the rapture occurred just before a nuclear strike on the United States by Russia? This would certainly give the world a way to explain away the disappearence of millions of Americans. And the people who disappeared outside the United States could said to be simply in hiding due to the fear of this nuclear strike. The disappearence of millions will have to be explained somehow and this could be it. We would escape the wrath of God yet those left behind would experience His judgement.

  • If Russian subs were stationed off our coasts, wouldn’t we know it? Our military tracks Russia 24/7. What about our own subs? If Russian subs are off our coasts, wouldn’t our own subs be there too? Wouldn’t some of our allies strike back at Russia?? I’m not too sure of that scenario.
I think we collapse under the strain of financial devastation, the immigration invasion and the political civil war between parties and the homosexual aggression. That was enough to take Rome down…

  • Russian subs are off our coast but in International waters so we can not do anything about it. To do so would probably start a nuclear war. As far as others striking back at Russia…do you really think they would and have their country destroyed in a nuclear holocaust too in retaliation? I doubt it. They would just write us off. Most of the world hates us anyway. I still hope that we will escape the wrtath to come as the Bible says. Why would believers have to experience wrath when God was willing to spare Sodom and Gomorrah if just a few decent souls lived in those cities? A lot of believers live in the United States so why wouldn’t He spare Christians through the rapture before His wrathful judgement? Yes, judgement will come on the United States but I have to hope that believers will be spared (raptured). Isn’t that what the Bible says we should be hopeful about and encourage one another about? I pray this is true.

  • The Bible promises over and over that those who have accepted Jesus as Savior during this age will be delivered from God’s wrath. Romans 5:9 says that “we shall be saved from the wrath of God through Him.” 1 Thessalonians 1:10 states that we are waiting “for His Son from heaven… who will deliver us from the wrath to come.” The promise is repeated in 1 Thessalonians 5:9 – “God has not destined us for wrath, but for obtaining salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ.”

There has been many kinds of suffering and wrath over the last 2000 years, but those will be nothing in comparison to God’s Wrath during the Tribulation, as it will be “such as has not occurred since the beginning of the world until now, nor ever shall.” (Matt. 24:21-22).

A world-devestating nuclear holocaust is reserved for the Antichrist’s war at the beginning of the Tribulation, as God’s restraint is removed and mankind can let loose our own horrors upon ourselves. And so, I don’t think the Church will experience a nuclear holocaust.

  • the bible says, And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.
Luke 21:27-29, So rest your little heads, and do not worry

  • Chinese subs have snuck up on our fleets before and suddenly popped up by surprise, so it is not unthinkable. However a 3rd option is an EMP strike by perhaps Iran or terrorists supplied by Russia/Iran. I’d be interested to hear others thoughts on that.

And Christians have died right along side others throughout history so while the pre-nuke rapture is comforting, our ultimate comfort needs to be in the fact that He is in control, and will do His will for His glory.

  • As for the EMP strike, that is absolutely a possibility but the descriptions of events in the Bible sound more like nuclear strikes. As for your other comment, frankly I find it disturbing to think that God’s will for believers would be to have them go through a nuclear holocaust rather than save them from the wrath to come in the rapture as promised in the Bible. The Bible says we are NOT destined for the end times wrath. We are to look forward to the return of Jesus with hope and glory and encouragement and joy. Therefore I can not believe it would be hopeful and encouraging to know before we meet with the Lord prior to his return we will be burned up in a nuclear blast.

  • I hope and pray that we, as Christians, will not experience the coming judgment of our nation (particularly as a mom of 3 small children). However, if we are caught up in economic collapse (which is happening) and nuclear warfare, this doesn’t mean that God is breaking His promise. Does He always spare our suffering? I think “God’s wrath” will be most evident on Judgement Day, and as Christians covered by the blood of Christ, we WILL be spared God’s wrath. And, no matter what happens in between, this is most encouraging.

  • What about some terrorist groups slipping in over the border? Perhaps, some small dirty bombs could knock out some of our cities and totally cripple our infrastructure causing massive panic and civil unrest. One scenario would be that our country would almost be inhabitable. Then people would have to go to other countries to live. Perhaps Europe, South America. Then they would fall into the hands of the Anti-christ. See Revelation 18:13,and bodies and souls of men) People’s minds in this country are already primed to worship the anti-christ.

  • Yes I believe also the US will be destroyed by nukes
In 1954 AA Allen had a vision from God Depicting this very same thing. you can read about his vision online. the bible says ALL Nations are crooked and perverse
    Phillippians 2:15 US being#1.

  • The russians are coming soon to nuke us. But God told me that there won't be one person with their name written in the book of life in this country when that day comes. Rapture is coming soon. The submarines will attack soon. Come Jesus come.

  • Wow, this is amazing. Someone wrote something on this blog that struck my attention and that is because it is truth. Who are we? Christians are being persecuted and dying everyday in other countries. We are blessed and have not suffered many of the afflictions of our brothers and sisters in other countries. We really are protected in this country. I know God has blessed the USA, but this country is in a back slidden state. I dont believe that whats going to happen in the future concerning the rapture is predicated upon America or even Christians in America. There is no telling what will happen, but the Bible says through Christ Jesus we have the peace of God that passes all understanding. (Philipians 4:7) We must live our lives as if he is coming, presenting our bodies a living sacrifce.(Romans 12:1)We already have life and some of us life more abundantly.(John 10:10)We should not focus our attention on trying to figure it out. We should focus our attention on those who are not saved until the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. We have to preach of the Gospel of Christ. If Christ suffered then we dont know suffering for His name consist of. So what if we do get attacked and the rapture does not happen yet? What if we get taken over? Will we suffer some of the afflictions our brothers and sisters in other countries have suffered. Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the LORD delivereth him out of all of them.(Psalms 34:19)We have been made the righteousness of God in Him.(2Corinth 5:21) We should preach this gospel until we stop breathing or until His coming. That is the will of God. We live eternally in Christ. Those who are not saved when the future happens are the ones facing eternal damnation. The best thing we can do is say Thy Kingdom come.Thy will be done, as in heaven, so in earth concerning our lives and the future of this country.(Luke 11:2) We live in days where it is absolutely necessary know and be in His will. God bless you brothers and sisters in Christ Jesus.

  • To my understanding our nation will loose power because if the evil in it or we will because there are so many Christians in it? Sorta sounds like opposites to me..
And how exactly would our nation be referred to in prophesies? We are a Heinz 57 of bloodlines…

  • How responsible is America's Church for the things that have happened here : moral decay , abuses , abortion , decline in faith ?
How does God see this ?

  • At The RAPTURE : The Dead in Christ rise first , then Those who are Alive and Remain .
We do not miss the Rapture no matter which group we go in , as Believers .
America can be judged before The Rapture . It may be a partial physical judgment or it may be a complete physical judgment . It can go either way as we are not promised we will miss anything except the WRATH OF GOD . The Bible states "the Church is not appointed unto WRATH ."
We are not exempt from sufferings as The Saved !
