Prophetic Voices

PDF

When a nation rebels against God, particularly one that has been as blessed as ours, God responds with remedial judgments like weather disasters and economic calamities. He also raises up prophetic voices to call the nation to repentance. I have discussed this process in detail in my book, America the Beautiful? The United States in Bible Prophecy.

Our nation is in rebellion against God today. We are literally shaking our collective fist at Him, mocking and blaspheming both Him and His Word. He has repeatedly sent remedial judgments like Hurricane Katrina and the 9/11 attacks, but we have refused to repent. He has also raised up powerful prophetic voices to confront us with our national sins and to call us to repentance.

Prophetic Pastors

The interesting thing to me is that nearly all the prophetic voices the Lord has anointed thus far have been pastors like David Wilkerson, Jonathan Cahn and Robert Jeffress — all of whom we have highlighted in this magazine. The reason I find this interesting is because I have always found that pastors tend to avoid highly controversial subjects for fear that they will offend people in their congregations. Yet, these pastors are speaking out boldly and fearlessly.

Another thing interesting about the phenomenon of prophetic pastors is that God’s anointing is falling on them and not on Bible prophecy experts. It seems that the experts are more concerned about debating the timing of Ezekiel’s war of Gog and Magog, or the identity of the Antichrist or the meaning of the fig tree parable in Matthew 24.

There are some among the Bible prophecy experts who have spoken out — people like Terry James. But, I’m sad to say that many of the prophecy experts have spent their time taking potshots at the prophetic pastors because of the way they have used a particular prophetic passage.

Take, for example, the attacks on Jonathan Cahn for his supposed “misuse” of Isaiah 9:10. The “experts” have ripped him to pieces while ignoring the fact that his writings are biblically based and are right on target in identifying the sins of America and our nation’s desperate need to repent. So the “experts” end up quibbling over whether or not the verse in Isaiah was meant only for Israel while ignoring Cahn’s anointed message for America.

And then there are those like John MacArthur who believe the gift of prophecy died with the death of the last apostle. They too spend their time attacking the prophetic voices God has anointed today. They often just dismiss people like David Wilkerson by claiming they are nothing but “off-the-wall Charismatics or Pentecostals.”

But God has anointed a Southern Baptist like Robert Jeffress and conservative Evangelicals like Erwin Lutzer and David Jeremiah.

We need to stop nit-picking these prophetic voices and start listening to them. Better yet, we need to start encouraging them. They have a message our nation desperately needs to hear, for God’s sword of final judgment is hanging over our heads.

  • America is going the way of the rich young ruler in Matt. 19:16-26(mark10:17-27;luke18:18-27).america is rich in many ways and has been built on christian principals. Yet does not give to the "poor"-which in these last days are the unsaved. Instead America is going the way of the world views. Jesus' response after the disciples ask "who then can be saved?" Was…"with men this is impossible;but with God all things are possible." So America has gone the way of man(both the good and bad) and now it is the way of God. America has done what is was meant to do and now it is to our Lord…amen.

  • Let two or three prophets speak, and let the others judge. 1Cor 14:29

    b. Let the others judge: Even as prophets speak, others are to judge. No "word from the Lord" is to be received without careful consideration by the leadership of the church present at the meeting. As John said in 1 John 4:1, Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world.

    i. Indeed, Paul wrote in Galatians 1:8, But even if we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you than what we have preached to you, let him be accursed. Even if an angel from heaven were to come with a message, it must be tested and judged.
ii. What are the standards a prophecy should be judged by? First, it should be judged according to God's established, revealed word. God will never contradict Himself. Also, He will not give the same gift of perfectly hearing Him He gave to the apostles and prophets who wrote the New Testament and gave the foundation for the church (Ephesians 2:20). It is wrong to assume anyone perfectly hears God, so it is also wrong to put too much trust and faith in a prophecy. It is probably a bad idea to record them, and meditate on them. Thank God for the edification and exhortation and comfort prophecy brings (1 Corinthians 14:3), but don't let it eclipse God's eternal Word.

  • Dr.Reagan “the "experts" have ripped him to pieces while ignoring the fact that his WRITINGS ARE BIBLICALLY BASED”

Matt.4:5 Then the devil took Him up into the holy city, set Him on the pinnacle of the temple, and said to Him, “If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down.

FOR IT IS WRITTEN: [Psalm 91:11]

‘He shall give His angels charge over you,’and,‘In their hands they shall bear you up,Lest you dash your foot against a stone.’

Satan knows the Bible using Scripture to destroy trust in God’s promises and commands. All responsible Bible reading ‘experts’ and all God fearing Pastors are commanded to judge mens words to make sure they have not gone beyond WHAT IS WRITTEN to protect the flocks in their charge.

Matt.7: 22,23 “Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not PROPHESIED IN YOUR NAME, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’
“And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!

No room for naivety these days.

  • Anonymous, I think you're confused when Dr. Reagan calls these men prophets for our day.

The gift of prophecy is not the same today as it was when the Apostle John completed Revelation. Today, people with the spiritual gift of prophecy have a passion to share the Good News of Jesus Christ's salvation with others in the time we have left. They also can discern what the Bible is talking about concerning the end times. They cannot predict what the future is, as God has already given us a full account of what will occur in the Bible.

While Acts 2:17 shows the early Church fulfilled Joel 2:28's prophecy of the miraculous gifts, Joel was clearly talking about the Day of the Lord which has yet to come. Seems these gifts are coming back stronger we get closer to the Lord's return, and will fully culminate during the upcoming 7-year Tribulation. I believe if there is a return of the prophetic gift in that real prophecies are being made, it's reserved for the Tribulation Saints after the Church has been removed.

  • I'm not a cessationist. I do know the dif. Read 1Cor.4. Paul cautions against following after mens views which leads to arrogance and division. God is explicit that we must keep to Scripture in its proper context, how God meant it to be read, normally not spiritualising. The HS never goes beyond what he has written, He isn’t the author of confusion and these doomsday words are not building up the church, it is dwelling on death, destruction, misery – you call it. It mocks Phil4:8.
Your description of the word of prophecy is reading into scripture what isn’t there to fit preconceived ideas. I can’t help wondering how you are interpreting all the imperatives, I have written here. Imperatives that deny these unbiblical articles.

I agree, things are getting worse, its all over the world, not just the States, the signs of the Tribulation and antichrist are coming thick and fast – but we are commanded to believers repentance from personal sin to renew broken fellowship with God. Take our eyes off things that will hurt our faith and trust in our Savior, by notions that brings fear and doubt instead. God is in utter and complete control, nothing happens without his permission. This is the trial of our faith to prep us for the works God wants us to do in the coming kingdom and eternity. Trust, believe and obey God’s many promises, then rest in sure knowledge of His faithfulness.

Turn your eyes upon Jesus, look full in his wonderful face, and the things of earth will grow strangely dim, in the light of his glory and grace.
