Prophetic Perspectives #73: The Cancel Culture

Nathan Jones: The crybullies of the Cancel Culture say that you cannot speak, you cannot believe what you believe, and you cannot share Christ with others. Where is this going prophetically?

I’ve been reading a lot lately about what is called the Cancel Culture. This concerns a cultural shift that is growing in the United States, and even across the world, to shut up anyone who disagrees with their Leftist ideology.

Take for instance Facebook, which is the largest social media platform in the world, with 1.3 billion subscribers. This Cancel Culture is trying to force companies to no longer earn any ad revenue through Facebook. A thousand companies have agreed to this boycott for the purpose of forcing Facebook to start censoring Christian and Conservative content.

The Cancel Culture holds no belief in free speech or free press anymore. It’s got to be what this Cancel Culture believes only. And, if you don’t fall in line, and if you do not adhere to their PC way of thinking, then they’ll punish you. One of the intimidation methods that they’ll use is called doxing, meaning they will release your public information so that protestors show up at your house. Then there’s BDS, long been used against the nation of Israel, where they organize a boycott to destroy you economically.

I think of the TV show The Flash. One of the actors on that show made a tweet like when he was 12 years old that seemed racist, and the show’s producers fired him. It was years ago when he posted something stupid, but he was a mere kid, and clearly, someone was digging deep into his Twitter feed to find anything they could use against him.

Horrifyingly, we are seeing this Cancel Culture take on the world and intimidate people to conform to its Leftist ideology. Tim, is there a historical pattern they are following? Have there been other times in history when this has happened?

Tim Moore: Yes, clearly so. Just in recent years, within the twentieth century, the world endured a number of episodes. In Nazi Germany, for example, there was an effort to eliminate books and ideas that were repulsive to the Nazis. They held book burnings. They persecuted people who had what they deemed the wrong ideology. The people doing the persecution were the Brown Shirts of the Nazi party, which later turned into the dreaded SS. Eventually, the Cancel Culture of that time morphed into a government agency of the Third Reich that then held the power to really crush freedom in Germany and throughout Europe.

We’ve seen the Cancel Culture raise its ugly head in other cultures as well. The Russian Bolsheviks tried to eliminate anyone who didn’t think according to their Communist ideology. There was the Maoist Revolution in China. So, the Cancel Culture has been a threat throughout history.

We can even find it in Scripture. In Acts 5, when the Apostles were speaking of Jesus Christ and telling people that He is the Messiah, the religious leaders were threatened by that idea, and so they brought the Apostles in and ordered them not to preach in the name of Jesus Christ. Of course, to their credit, the Apostles replied, “We must obey God rather than men.” They were not going to stop speaking about Jesus Christ. And, as Christians, we cannot stop speaking the truth today either.

Nathan Jones: Amen. But, then you’ll hear people counter with, “Well, in Matthew 5, Jesus said to ‘turn the other cheek.'” In other words, don’t resist. But, no, when Jesus said to turn the other cheek against an enemy, He meant you don’t back down; you give them the other cheek. In Luke 22, Jesus told His disciples to buy a sword. So, clearly, He’s not telling Christians to back down, be quiet, and to stop sharing their faith. He is saying that, even through tumultuous times, you share your faith. I think of Dietrich Bonhoeffer in Nazi Germany who gave his life for standing up for the Word of God, even though he lost his life for doing so.

Folks, we are seeing a shift in the culture towards a particular end. Tim, what end do you think this culture is heading towards?

Tim Moore: The ultimate goal of the Cancel Culture is to try to eliminate Christianity. Christians are being pushed out of the public square. Christianity, in particular, and any God-oriented faith, is being deemed unacceptable by the majority culture, or at least the cultural drivers of today. They are trying to silence Christians. They are trying to eliminate church influence from our culture. This is something that we are going to see ramp up over a short time. Inevitably, this will lead to the kingdom of the Antichrist where Christians will be hunted down by the masses and be tremendously persecuted and executed.

Nathan Jones: My goodness! We are starting to see the end of American freedom, and that was prophesied in the Bible. We are quickly moving towards this Antichrist culture. It cannot stand another God other than Satan, so it has to get rid of Christianity and every other religion.

And yet, we know that there is hope for the believer in Christ today, and that is the Rapture of the Church. Jesus Christ is coming for His Church. When this age is at last over, Jesus is going to take us up to Heaven, and the world will then finally fall into place under the Antichrist’s regime. That evil kingdom will last only seven years. Then, Jesus Christ returns, He defeats the Antichrist, and He sets up His Millennial Kingdom characterized by peace, righteousness, and justice. They’ll be no Cancel Culture during the Millennial Kingdom. Christ’s Kingdom is our true home. That is our true country.

As we wait for the Rapture of the Church, Tim, what advice would you have for people about living day-to-day under a growing Cancel Culture?

Tim Moore: I would say to live as the Scripture commands. We are told to follow the commandments of God’s Word. We don’t give in to the pressures of this world. Don’t conform to the world, Scriptures say, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. We have been transformed by the renewing of the Holy Spirit of God that indwells us. Therefore, we cannot conform to this world.

As the world tracks further and further away from God and into darkness, we will shine all the more as we allow Christ to live through us. There’s a time such as this that we are called to contend earnestly for the faith. Again, quoting Scripture over and over again, we proclaim truth just as the Apostles did and say along with them, “We must obey God rather than men.” In the long run, we know our Lord wins. So, we are on the right side, not just of human history, but of God’s history.

Nathan Jones: Habakkuk 2:4 reminds us that, “the just shall live by faith.” Live by faith! Trust in the Lord. The Lord will protect you. He will reward you for standing up for what is right. Don’t let the Cancel Culture shut you down.

My brother in the Lord discuss this and he believes that we will not be there but I believe that we will and then every tear will be erase at that time. please set each of us straight. I have been listening to your program for many years and have been extremely blessed. May the Lord bless you and family and of Dr. Reagen and Tim Moore who is from Kentucky. In Christ, Amen and Amen. • Paul, so good to hear that “Christ in Prophecy” has been a blessing to you! The Great White Throne Judgment is for the “rest of the dead” of Revelation 20:5, which are those who in life stayed in rebellion against God because of their continued unbelief. They will be resurrected from their holding place in Hades and appear before the Lord for final judgment. They will be judged for their works, but since they didn’t accept the only worked that mattered – Jesus’ saving work on the cross – they will be found wanting and be sentenced to Hell (the Lake of Fire, the Second Death) along with Satan. It’s Jesus’ final victory over sin and death.

John 12:48 and other references to the judgment being based on the Lamb’s Book of Life would indicate that Jesus is the judge at the Great White Throne Judgment. First Corinthians 6:3 and other verses seem to indicate that those saved in their glorified bodies will also play a role at the GWT as judges and witnesses, so we will be there to see these judgments against the nations and angels.
